  1. Twists,

Yes, depleted of talent – “these guys are as good as it gets”.

Re: John Park – I must admit I’m baffled by this one. When he first came in to the club, he was being applauded for finding some of the best young talent that’s been seen certainly in my time, Wanyama springs to mind.

Was this luck? Was it indeed Park that discovered him? Is Park no longer in the picture and someone else is actually now bringing in our ‘talent’?

  2. Predictable response on CQN, players froze on the day, and another honest mistake, felt for young Roberts but at least he put his hands up, KT called it right, it’s not the managers fault, we where just not good enough on the day, my opinion for what it’s worth, motivation won it for Sevco, they where up for it, Brown? A shadow of the player he was, GMS a Dundee United player, I think Rogic should have started, KC? He is not getting a game because he’s a little shit disturber and a few of the players yesterday seem to be buying into his shit, I watched a Vidio of the Rogic penalty, strangest thing I’v ever seen, the ball pops up with the turf a millisecond before he hits it, I said at the time what the f… Was that? Could only happen to Celtic, anyway, no excuses were out and that’s it, no one died, and 450 cops got a Sunday shift out of it, but still couldent find the Huns that painted the side walks in the Carlton red, white, an blue, now there’s a surprise eh? Bring home the league Bhoys. Lurking Huns GIRFUYs.

RM sacked both Heynckes and Del Bosque after winning EC, 1998 and 2000.

Absolutely no confidence this management structure will get this job done over next 5 games. I found myself looking to see where the 7 points are which guarantees the SPL.

Go on – guarantee me, in the current circumstances, 7 pts from the next 5 games.

  4. Feel better today……..not much, just a wee bit.

Our opponents will rightly feel triumphal, it’s in their horrible DNA but they beat us, plain and horribly simple.

If Grif had scored then all would have been different today………..but mibbes not.

The issues at the heart of the team’s performance would persist and the inevitable managerial structures would have to be addressed. No – one can ignore these now and reasonable urgency will surely be applied.

The sleekit agenda of our troll visitor(s) will doubtless continue as will the “drive-by sniping” at us and ours –

    Leave thum to it……….

    There you are lads.

That’s the hit team along with the Griff.

    I feel like crying.

  6. AllyHuntersGloves,

Good analysis. I agree, especially about Sviatchenko and Tierney. Our 2 best players by a mile. Charlie – who gets a lot of criticism – also gets pass marks.

Sadly, I also agree with you about the league. I was surprised so many posters seemed to think it’s in the bag after the last week or so. Given our repeated inability to rise to the big occasion, I’d say we are eminently capable of blowing it.

  7. ....PFayr ..SACK THE BOARD on

    Twisty

The set up was all wrong yesterday

We played two sand dancers who offered nothing defensively

We left two off form players to play in the midfield themselves against five Huns

We did nothing when our right side was being exposed

Deila’s intransigence re team formation is reprehensible

Most of the players were poor yesterday but this clown of a manager has to go ….

  8. ItaliaBhoy on 18th April 2016 9:16 am

As did Bayern (Heynckes) and Chelsea (Di Matteo)

  9. Well even for me RD’s time has come. Once again he’s completely underestimated the team that he’s playing against. That’s a consistent problem and it’s clear it’s something he hasn’t learned.

I’m not overly concerned about their arrival in the top flight. As they are I don’t think they’ll be a threat over the whole season. It’s Hearts that I’m most worried about to be honest.

Do you remember that period where if one of Celtic or Rangers didn’t get their set up correct it would result in a complete horsing. We were abject and yet still took it to penalties and that included two ridiculous misses. That’s the one and only positive from yesterday. And it’s slight.

Who next? I could see Moyes trying to re-establish his reputation of getting the most out of a (relatively) cheap squad. If we were going cheap again. I’d risk Neilson. I wouldn’t take a former manager back.

I read a great post on Kerrydale St that was doing the rounds about the failure of PL et al in their recruiting strategy. And while I don’t disagree with that, we’re such a fickle lot that it would soon be forgotten about if the next man flies.

I feel the same way as you do.

It galls me that it took losing to this crowd for people to open their eyes but that is all that matters for some supporters.

He and Collins must be gone TODAY. No excuses, no more waiting for it to come good, it never has and never will but now it looks like he’ll get the next 5 games – good grief.

    This is beyond a joke.

If ever evidence was needed about how out of touch the board are then this is it.

I am disgusted if this comes to pass.

Him being there is worse than him not being there because the players don’t play for him and him staying only makes it worse.

He could still lose the league.

He IS that bad a manager and those players don’t like him as far as I can see and the fans will turn up on Sunday baying for the axe to fall before a ball is even kicked.

As bad decisions go this one is up there with appointing him in the first place.

We’ve all spent too much of our own money to allow this to keep on happening.

  11. After being there yesterday and witnessing another humiliation, i was hoping to hear Ronny was away. You really couldn’t trust this chancer getting us over the line now , even with an eight point lead.

For me , yesterday is as bad as it gets.

I told a few mates before yesterday all their 4 and 5 nil predictions were nonsense and i thought the wee team had a fair chance of an upset.

I hope yesterday was a wake up call for many of the opinion , that we would have 7 or 8 titles racked up before we had a challenge from Govan.

So onto next Sunday now, how many of yesterdays imposters will keep their place in the team,

sadly most of them will start if Ronny’s still there.

    Truly sickened.

  12. Go forward plan

Sack Ronny just to show players abject failure will not be tolerated. Bring in new manager if available so he has a few games to confirm his views on the dross.

Lawwell GTF a leech who has sucked the club dry. No self respecting manager will tolerate his running of all football matters. Take park with him.

Last sat I had Dave King sitting next to me on a flight. Today lumbered with Lord Mandelson on a flight to Stockholm , sitting reading the Sun.

Paul67 it would be good to understand your viewpoint as why we are in this mess and who is responsible. It has been 4 seasons of chronic underachievement. Let’s stop the spin, deflect and deny. Or was yesterday a miracle ?

  13. Ally

Re Lustig and Roberts, I did notice the same situation as yourself with less than 15 mins played. Patrick wasn’t tracking back and we were being constantly attacked down that side. Deila’s non intervention made me think he was happy to go through 3-2 or 4-3 because I’d the feeling we were gonna concede at least 2. To be fair and add some context, the chances that they created despite this weakness down our right were few and far between and only a fortunate touch off SB and a wonder strike found the net. In that respect I consider us a tad unlucky but at the same time, we probably didn’t do nearly enough to deserve the win.

I wasn’t impressed by them either. Overplay it with no real threat, but at least they had a game plan and stuck with it. They seemed to be free from fear whilst we were nervous and no one except two or three of our players seemed comfortable spending time on the ball.

If we played them again tomorrow would we beat them? Possibly, but if they add a bit more quality up front and a couple solid defenders in the summer, they’d be favourite for the title in my opinion.

  14. Intensity

    Desire

    Urgency

    Purpose

    Mindset

The evidence keeps mounting that RD is poor at instilling the above into our team.

Another way of saying this is that the squad lacks high quality leadership.

I think a consequence of this is that our on-field performance is over-influenced by other strong personalities of experience, like SB, who (lets face it) lacks technique and is not good at setting an appropriate tempo

  15. Required

    1. New CEO to run the business, and only the business

    2. Appoint Director of Football, Strachan, O’Neill, someone of that ilk

    3. Sack the current management team

    4. Appoint new Head Coach and management team

    5. Clear out of players, at least 15 should go

    6. Recruit quality over quantity

begin the above to do list today with 3, put Development Squad management team in charge until the end of the season if new Head Coach not available at the moment

  16. theglasgowcelticway on

Andy Walker:” Celtic have the bigger squad with better players which they didn’t utilise yesterday one of the reasons RD wont survive this.” I think that’s pretty accurate.

  17. PeterLatchfordsBelly on

We have put a sheep into a wolf’s job and the shark Lawwell is responsible. I would keep Deila till the end of the season and then give him a one way ticket to nowheresville. Loser. Lawwell I wouldn’t keep till the end of the season.

Like most on here, will be fascinated to read P67’s blog later. A clever man with a clear understanding of the current thinking of the leadership. They’re now walking a tightrope entirely of their own making. Be fascinated to hear whether they have a plan or it’s now just full scale panic at the calamity they’ve created. Would bet my life on it being the latter. Clueless.

  18. PF

Oh I agree wholeheartedly. When I say I’m not convinced any manager would improve our current defence, it’s not a defence of RD. He’s incompetent, and needs to go. I’m just hoping he’s not the only one going! Him, JP, JC etc are there because of one man, the apparent financial genius that is PL. Every penny that comes in will be spent again. Yep. There’ll be less and less pennies coming in though. Which will create less and less revenue through budget buys , which will lead to less and less punters, leading to less and less pennies, and so it’ll go on.

Then we’ll be told the Europa league last 16 isn’t a realistic target because the SPL is a shite league, and that we are not entitled to be champions every year…….but PL deserves his bonus cos he’s kept us solvent.

  20. Allyhuntersgloves on

Twists and Turns, the other glaring issue for me yesterday was our lack of options to give a pass to in midfield. We had little movement, nobody running off their marker to look for the ball, we were paralysed by fear. That’s a culture issue that’s endemic in the team, how can so many players be scared facing them in their condition? all but 1 of our players were full internationalists (and he is a £13m England under 21). Bottle comes from the manager and how he sets himself.

I recently heard a fantastic story from an ex player about MON sending out Bobo down the tunnel on his own before a game against them, into the tunnel and stare them down every one of them. It doesn’t win you the game, but it sets your marker down, Somehow “the Broony stare” doesn’t scare anyone……………..

  21. A wee while ago Paul67 posted “come back to me in June and we’ll talk about the future”. Today I see an article on CQN exhorting us to “get behind the team” and leave “other matters” till the season is over.

Call me cynical, but I expect to read in May about how, with the CL (we hope) qualifiers upon us, now is not the time to rock the boat.

Paul67 is of course entitled to his view (and its his blog), but increasing this attitude of lets-sort-it-later seems woefully inadequate and a horrific misreading of the trouble the club is in.

  22. twists n turns on 18th April 2016 9:13 am

We have seen teams expose our defence all season. JK I guess has to be partly responsible but the fact of the matter is our defenders , on the whole, are poor. Not convinced any manager/coach would improve it with the current personnel

    __________________________________________

    Twists n turns

Accepting the comment about the defenders on the whole being poor, with the right team set up you can work around poor defenders.

The midfield set up (or perhaps personnel) does nothing to protect the back 4.

    1) GMS left Tierney in the brown stuff all day yesterday, and that is replicated on the other side with Roberts. And that is how it has been all season long.

    2) Then there is the central pairing…….broony is massively off form, and doesn’t look particularly mobile, add in Biton who is an ‘elegant’ footballer but ultimately soft and slow, you get the perfect recipe for a constantly exposed defence.

I do not tho’ disagree with the quality thing because we have had better defenders in the past. I just think we cant defend as a team.

FWIW I think our 3 best players yesterday were the defenders – Sviatchenko, Mulgrew and Tierney.

Wanting to waken up and find out it really didn’t happen…..!

  23. Re the ball moving when Tom planted his standing foot. It looks like he planted his foot on one of the pitch joints and it slid onto the other and lifted the spot. Talk about bad luck.

Anyway, a couple of things we could do in the short term, give Charlie Mulgrew a one year extension and Tom Rogic a four year contract.

  24. Tricoloured Ribbon on

Maybe there is hope for Celtic.Players like Kelleher,McCart,Hill,Archibald and Nesbitt may be the answer.

    Here lies the problem

We had two massive opportunities to bring these lads in against the likes of Stranraer and East Kilbride, but no this chancer in charge thought otherwise.

Tierney has proved you are the business if you are good enough.

The perennial failures -Brown,Bitton,Johansen and Lustig still bullet proof and undroppable.

And not one of them will be dropped for the next game.

A clueless, utter buffoon of a manager will see to that.

  25. Tricoloured Ribbon

It’s obvious whose fault it was, the players, the manager didn’t miss a sitter, the manager didn’t miss a penalty, the manager didn’t give the Huns a throw in when it was ours, the manager didn’t deflect a ball into Sevcos path for the Huns first goal, yes he picks the team, but once they cross the line you have to step up, they didn’t, the team he picked yesterday was good enough to beat that mob (although I’d have picked Rogic before GMS ) as I said I think that the only thing that RD falls down on is motivation, he’s a coach but maybe just maybe he doesent get personnel enough with the players, and I know for a fact John Collins doesent have that in his locker, he thinks his shit doesent stink, naaa, the players need to take a long hard look at them selfs, it was a very dissapointing performance from them, apart from Eric and KT, in my opinion.

  26. ITALIABHOY

It’s too late to sack the manager they decided to keep him when the question first arose.

A bigger worry than who the new coach will be, is how we get rid of the players on lucrative contracts that were brought in?

Changing managers is easy, offloading our unwanted players will tie up any new manager long into the role, ( see Derk Boeriggter ) and Celtic, whether you blame Ronny Deila or not, have bought and employ too many players of a lower standard than we are used to.

It’s been pretty clear since last season that we would change, the only argument was timing, and Celtic decided it would be in the summer. Losing to bitter new rivals with a team of freebies, journeymen, and loanees will seem like a final straw to thousands of fans.

Celtic haven’t been a good enough side for two years, we’ve scraped by and been humbled in Europe, and as TBB posted yesterday RD has tried something like 49 different combinations of players. Along the way we’ve made the same mistakes over and over, in the search for a consistency, that is not there with the standard of player that we’ve bought.

  27. weeminger on 18th April 2016 9:25 am

Great post and one I would agree with in general. The only thing I’d take issue with is when you state that Ronny underestimates his opponents. I suspect the opposite. He vastly over estimates many of our opponents and worse still underestimates the resources he has at his disposal. A properly motivated, firing on all cylinders, Celtic team would have blown that mob away yesterday. We saw how fragile they were at the back on the few occasions we went forward with confidence. In the second half especially they couldn’t penetrate our defences except for one brilliant shot.

Unfortunately Ronny gives the opposition too much respect in my opinion, and consequently our performances have become a reflection of his timidity.

    Time for a change.
