Ranters regret, BDO and SPL £250k fine

201

Last week we shone a light on why newco may have withdrawn their ill-conceived rant against Dundee United over the SFA’s award of £204k to newco as Training Compensation for Charlie Telfer signed out of contract.

Where Training Compensation is disputed, the SFA are obliged to award the losing club the entire amount of money due according to the set scale, from when the player was still at school.  The club which receives the money is then obliged to pay any earlier clubs the according to period they developed the player.

This is where Rangers’ liquidators, BDO, come in.  Rangers membership of the SFA expired in August 2012, just a few weeks after newco began life with a cup-tie against Brechin City, but Rangers were the club who developed Telfer between 2006 and 2012, so they are entitled to make a claim on the money newco will collect on their behalf.

It’s unlikely Dundee United have already paid newco, so if newco dispute they owe oldco Rangers this money, BDO are likely to ask a court to freeze the transaction before it is fulfilled.  United would be unable to discharge their debt by paying newo until the court made a ruling in their favour.

United chairman, Steven Thompson, may or may not have said “You’re only two years old” when offering a lesser figure for Telfer, but whoever penned the withdrawn statement for newco, they missed the point.  Someone should have advised newco, “You’re only two years old, take the money on offer and don’t push for an explicit Training Compensation figure.”

Cognitive Dissonance alert, we now face the possibility of newco paying a football debt to oldco.

In the same article last week, we brought up the subject of Rangers’ as-yet unpaid £250k fine for the illegally avoiding tax and breaking player registration rules.  The fine, levied by an SPL inquiry, is almost two years old now.  As part of their SFA membership application, newco agreed to meet all football debts, but there was previously insufficient motivation from the SPFL, who assumed SPL assets and liabilities, to enforce the fine on newco.

I hear that attitudes changed the instant newco attempted to rub people’s noses in the dirty stuff with that rant on the Telfer decision.

    You voted yes – don’t blame you for what?

    We have the highest employment and the lowest unemployment

    Inflation at an all time low

    We still have a currency

    We still have a shipbuilding industry

    We still have a banking and financial services industry

    We don’t have high interest rates

    or maybe you want to accept the blame for:

    NHS in a mess

    Missing cancer waiting times – time after time

    Tax system in a mess

    Class sizes rising

    Teacher numbers falling through the floor

    Oil price half your lot’s ‘joke’ figure

    35,000 jobs going in North Sea

    Change your ‘handle’ – you and the 44.6′rs are a laughing-stock

    ~~~~~~~~~~++~~~~~~~~~~
    I confess quite freely to being largely on your side of the political fence,but there are one or two points I would like you to clear up from the above.
    Highest employment-yes,I agree but 620,000 of those have zero hour contracts. Many more are on poverty wages,topped up with benefits-where available! Lowest unemployment,erm,naw.
    All-time low inflation,Erm,naw again. Check the 30s and really read up on the perils of deflation.
    Ship-building? Apart from rapidly-disappearing military orders,erm,naw.
    Yes all clubs did except Killmarnock I know that, but I’m talking now present time, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then, singing your not Rangers any more when you play them doesent cut it, they don’t give a fuxk about that, you sing that all day long, and they will still be the institution, time they stood up and put the HUNS in there place, as I said before, we can’t do it alone.
  3. Forget Anya nothing special .I believe he supports the dead mob to.Surely we have some young Bhoys up at Lennox town who are just as good or if not better than Anya.The young Bhoy from Castle milk.Calvin Miller or Paul George are they not wingers.if they are give one or the 2 of them a chance.
    I’ve no idea but think it irrelevant in terms of changing the intent or thrust of the 5 way , so abstaining would be the wiser of choices in that it leaves no hostage to fortune.
    I say irrelevant because The SPL signed up to the 5 way and unless it required an absolute all in favour majority, then Celtic could not influence the outcome either by voting for or against or abstaining.
    As only one of 42? Member clubs Celtic’s power to demand or force change does not exist to the extent some seem to believe.
    Scottish football is a family who are totally dependent on each other for their well being. Even if one acts as RFC did, being viewed as RFC were/are as a major bread winner, then the rest are going to have to consider the impact on them if one perceived major breadwinner leaves the family.
    Another big bread winner might be in a better position to live on should the other go, but the other dependent family members might not enjoy that luxury of putting principle first because of its real impact on them.
    If put to a family vote to keep the member who misbehaved, then the other major bread winner will know they will be outvoted.
    This is the real politik of Scottish football and there is no point blaming the other major bread winner for not walking away because they simply cannot and survive. They also know that to do so would kill the family.
    However as I pointed out yesterday the dynamics have changed in that the other family members are in a much better position to put principles first having become better earners of their own bread and so less dependent.
    Folk who say nothing will change tend to look back. Folk who say change is inevitable tend to look forward to observing it happen or trying to help it along.
    Being a resident of paisley I often have occasion to use Castle street in the town. To the non-buddies among us this is where the towns orange hall is located. Outside the building is two flagpoles. Up until march 2014 there were two union flags on the poles then suddenly one “disappeared” and a saltire was put in its place.
    December 2014 and the saltire has went missing.
    If anyone has any idea where the flag has disappeared to please contact their local police station.
    find it before the next referendum CSC
  6. SFTB if you are lurking my post to you a couple of days ago was not a personal dig just fedup with the politico posts on here. So sorry if you took offence Hail Hail One Eyed Hebcelt!!!
  7. hebcelt
    Everyone is on the next thread by now so not many will see this.
    My concern was that it was me and it was my post that was selected and highlighted as an example of the political posting that you wanted rid of on the blog. On the back of that San Diego Bhoy joined in and agreed with you that I had brought politics onto the blog and deserved censure.
    Now, to get to my post, both of you will have read past several pro-Yesser posts and anti- Jim Murphy statements from prominent posters on this blog who are repeat offenders in “bringing politics onto the blog”.
    It was those tiresome and offensive postings that I was reacting too and I made the point that the pre-referendum and post-referendum digs have been poisonous to this blog. In effect the same point you and SDB made at my expense.
    The difference was, as I said, that I have called out provocative No posters too as I did with Horrid Henry.
    I stated and I believe, and you can correct me if I’m wrong that you have made the same accusations against ernie lynch and Neg Anon too. What we all have in common is that we are unashamed No voters (I would not line up with them on their tendency to be rude to posters making valid points though). I have yet to see you or SDB make a point like this when the politics on the blog are of the kind that sit more favourably with you i.e. Yes Voting and anti-No voting posts.
    You are either against politics dominating the blog or you are against the politics you don’t like having a foothold on the blog. That is why I called it a one eyed position { I am hoping now that you have binocular vision and I have not made a jibe against a disability :-) }
    if we really want the poisonous stuff to end, we have to call out the people on our side of the debate who are prolonging it. It is no use just calling out the opposition.
  8. SFTB,
    I am not adverse to a political debate at any juncture, but it seems entrenched beliefs in this case negate any form of compromise, so better left alone.
    My point was the debate over the months become increasingly acrimonious and it saddens me to see good Tims, of which you all are, address each other in this manner.
    That is all I meant to say, albeit a little clumsily. I apologize if I caused any offense.
