‘Really robust offer’ euphemism

416

“Really robust offer” is apparently a euphemism for “Can’t believe they would pay that much”, following the transfer of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen.  The player is still only 20, with several development years ahead, but I doubt any of us set his valuation in this bracket.

At times this season I referred to Jeremie as our MVP (after his demolition of Hibs in September) and lamented the lack of end product comparable to Kristofer Ajer, when the adaptable central defender plays right back.

The failure to get crosses into the box by full backs on both wings, at the level Kris can apparently achieve, has been one of Celtic’s critical failures this season.  Come what may in the summer, we would have attempted to recruit an improvement, with or without Jeremie, who remains more potential than actual.

There is a major rebuilding job ahead, but with only the Scottish Cup a practical target this season, Neil Lennon is unlikely to see much of the reported £11.5m (before Man City’s cut) this week.

Good luck to you, Jeremie.

Loved the way we whipped the ball around last night.

Do you think the last 9 years were achieved because of Peter or would not have been achieved without him?

  2. Rolling Stone- with him. Every employee

during that time contributed- team work. And they needed a leader.

  3. As someone who’s only interaction with senior management over the last 45 years, has been as a Shop Steward, I don’t claim to fully understand the running of Boards of Management.

On Peter Lawell I can only say that he has secured our financial future, or at least had until the Covid 19 disaster.

I never agreed with the 5wa, but then again it was a “5”way agreement. Not all Celtics way.

I do however, believe that the top business men in Scottish football all agreed that a league without the Bigots would not be successful.

A chance I would have gladly taken, if it meant the end of those evil bastards.

However, our trophy room is bursting at the seems, we have had some amazing nights in Europe and I have loved the last 17 years. (Remember a rainy, cold night in Ibrox against Raith Rovers ?)

Anyway, one thing sticks in my mind. When I had more time on my hands I used to peek into a couple of hun sites, purely for reasons of schadenfreude.

The huns, hated, loathed, despised, most of all feared Peter Lawell.

He was the cause of every single thing that destroyed the natural order of the establishment.

The unseen Fenian hand, the secret Popish Plot, the Republican agenda !

    Oh what fun I had.

Peter Lawell had to go, as does Neil Lennon. Simple. I take no pleasure in it

Strange , the only people who take more pleasure than some Celtic fans are the huns.

    They will be celebrating tonight.

I think Peter Lawell was an excellent CEO,

Perhaps he stayed a year or two too long,

How are you taking the news about Lawwell?

    I’m loving it.

Bang on the button about the resolution or 5wa. Most Celtic fans I know , know nothing about it. Was actually taking to a shareholder who pumps in a considerable amount, halfway line seats, meal and drinks before hand etc. Knew nothing about the resolution, doesn’t go to the AGM or read the AGM papers.

Educate me on it he says , I did, jis reaction was ‘really’. That conversation was only last week😵

He’s gone matey! I am moderating every post to make sure he and his ilk are gone for good.

I only ask people to bear with me until I can get the moderating to work seamlessly.

  11. James Forrest ‘ most Celtic supporters are going to spit after saying his name.’

Possibly the most ridiculous statement I have ever read on here. That’s the thing about hysteria and theatrics, you always have to up the ante. Why not say, reasonably, that many supporters blame him for our current demise and would not wish him back ?

    Not sure you are understanding.

Larsson was sought after for years with us by United, Valencia and finally Barca. He would have benefitted financially by any of those deals.

Pedro may have been sought after in 08 but the ship had sailed long ago. No one is or has been chasing Pedro for a long time. Plus, unlike Henrik there is no temptation to go as the money won’t be as good/(if better) the expectations will be much higher and he will need to work for it.

The comparison to Sinclair was to evidence that situations change (player of the year to out the team in a short period of time), being great once (and I’m not saying Pedro was) does not stick with you for your career.

I’ve been told many times in my profession that you are only as good as your last mistake…

So yes, I hold little regard for Pedro’s status more than a decade ago.

    Desmond on Lawwell

“Over the years, Peter was sought after by many English Premier League clubs, but his LOVE AND COMMITMENT to the Club and Scotland were more important to him..’

    —————————————————————————————————-

    Where to start!!!

His love was shown up when he ‘never even looked at the 5 way agreement’, which meant that the cheating trophies, rangers playing loads of ineligible players in hundreds of matches, was not going to be properly punished with 3-0 defeats and trophies stripped, meaning Celtic were not going to be awarded titles that they were cheated from.

    Love and commitment indeed!!

    =========

If he never looked at The 5 Way Agreement that would be because he knew what it contained , but the idea of ignorance at CP of what the 5WA contained falls apart when you read that Eric Riley had it rehearsed to him by Rod McKenzie at an SPL Board meeting in October 2013 where the possibility of Rangers taking a case to CAS if the SPL pursued collection of the £250K fine arising from the LNS Commission was discussed. Its on the Res12 Archive.

Riley was on the list the 5WA was delivered to as well so that the “he never looked at it” argument simply does not stand up.

If it did the charge would be incompetence which is better than telling shareholder lies I suppose but the corroborative evidence is he lied.

I am amazed that others are amazed by Dermot speaking about Peter in glowing terms . After all , Peter has achieved everything Dermot wished for .

I don’t doubt that Peter is a genuine Celtic fan but was conflicted by his role , his personality and Dermot’s expectations of him.

  15. Good to see Peter Lawwell retiring from his post – the right way to go. He has done an incredible job as CEO but it is definitely time for change. There needs to be regular refresh of executive talent in any organization and CFC is no different. I wish him all the best and given the chance would thank him personally for his commitment to our club. I’m looking forward to seeing what else will change in the short term.

    Auldheid

I’m hoping that with Lawwell going that the res 12/11 issues may be looked at in a different light by the board.

If McKay wants to be seen to do right by the fans then this would be the correct way to start.

    ====================================

Funnily enough the CST asked if I wanted to put a specific proposal on the agenda focusing on what I believe is a fundamental issue of football governance.

It was an encouraging question but my response was that in view of the Res12 experience there was no point until PL had left the scene so that excuse has now gone.

The process would be that ANY CST member could draft a proposal to be tabled at the CST AGM in March April for debate and if it had merit the CST Membership would vote on it and if passed the proposal would then become a resolution to be sent to Celtic once 100 shareholder signatures obtained. If that can be done during Covid restrictions from a small group of 130 shareholders for 2020 AGM then it should be a dawdle for the CST with 1200 members at present.

Hopefully that number will increase as non shareholders are as welcome as shareholders and such a Resolution would be seen to be in the interest of every supporter , sick of the charade this current title “race” has become and knowing the truth about the last 10 years of covering up the previous ten. I mean imagine Scottish football where the reforms suggested 10 years ago

    http://celticunderground.net/sfa-reform-one-down-three-to-go/

that were conveyed to PL at the time, became reality.

The Celtic support, if they want to put in the effort, will never get a better chance of changing the toxic culture of Scottish football then will exist in the next 6 months.

  17. ERNIE LYNCH on 29TH JANUARY 2021 12:46 PM

I see where you are coming from but back in the history of CQN and Res12 the requisitioners heard that in a meeting in Dublin DD asked PL what is this Resolution 12 stuff?

The answer from PL was not for DD to worry about it as once Rangers returned it would disappear, or words to that effect.

Now allowing for that being true and the requisitioners having no reason to doubt it, decided to shake the tree a bit. It was a while ago but BRTH commented on CQN and changed the tone from “we are all in it together” to “that ain’t necessarily so.”

It would be around March 2015 but I could be a year out.

Anyhoo if that was the nature of the discussion it suggests DD was leaving the running of the Res12 show with PL but where your point might apply is that it is unlikely DD did not know what Celtic were accepting under the 5 WA .

Against that would be did he know enough of the detail to ask questions about the impact on support or would he leave that to his highly paid CEO?

There just isn’t enough evidence to be sure, but another factor is how much the intelligence of the support has been underestimated and that is an unconscious factor based on comments by Bankier at 2019 AGM and in correspondence.

My view is that the greatest threat to Celtic’s well being is from an organisation at Ibrox with kamikaze pilots in charge, supported by other clubs via the SFA and from a corporate “risk reduction” perspective they need brought under control by the measures I suggested in the link I posted earlier about SFA reform.
