‘Really robust offer’ euphemism

416

“Really robust offer” is apparently a euphemism for “Can’t believe they would pay that much”, following the transfer of Jeremie Frimpong to Bayer Leverkusen.  The player is still only 20, with several development years ahead, but I doubt any of us set his valuation in this bracket.

At times this season I referred to Jeremie as our MVP (after his demolition of Hibs in September) and lamented the lack of end product comparable to Kristofer Ajer, when the adaptable central defender plays right back.

The failure to get crosses into the box by full backs on both wings, at the level Kris can apparently achieve, has been one of Celtic’s critical failures this season.  Come what may in the summer, we would have attempted to recruit an improvement, with or without Jeremie, who remains more potential than actual.

There is a major rebuilding job ahead, but with only the Scottish Cup a practical target this season, Neil Lennon is unlikely to see much of the reported £11.5m (before Man City’s cut) this week.

Good luck to you, Jeremie.

Loved the way we whipped the ball around last night.

  1. Bada, Think that was when he was younger. Last 3 years he has played a lot of games for Preston.

  2. The mibs know if they referee the huns honestly their masters will drop them.

$1000 a game approximately to lose per week at least.

That was outrageous, particularly so when you consider Broonies on the same park. But if the board sit there and say nothing then what do you expect

  4. Not quite up there with the revisionists of German history of the 1960s who argued that due to the fact that Hitler was Austrian the Nazis weren’t really German…..but it’s close.

Fact is on his game Jeremy Frimpong was not just the best young player in the SPL but the most exciting footballer in Scotland. And that despite the chaotic coaching and mismanagement of Celtic FC by Neil Lennon this season. I’ll await the numbers showing actually up in the accounts before commenting on the transfer fee, but like some on here believe that within a well managed team a year or two from now he would be valued double the figure bandied around by the official Celtic Pravda or here on Celtic Quick Izvestia.

Not obsessive about commenting on line-ups, positions or tactics on here, that being a pointless exercise from game to game with Neil Lennon still in situ but I will make an exception this time. Hard to believe that there are those on here who still believe it was Frimpong’s job to get to the by line and get a cross in. To what end? To a crowded out Odsonne, leaden footed Ajeti, or an unfit Griffith? Time and time again since I first saw wee Frimpers play against Partick Thistle in September 2019 he was able to take the ball into the final third of the pitch and in doing so create space and opportunities for others to exploit that space. No point in going into too much detail, but I will give you an example of what I mean, November 21 1998, Alan Stubbs releases the ball out wide left on spotting Phil O’Donnell’s move there, Simon Donnelly moves forward to the left in space, one to receive the ball in an attacking position, and two to create space for both Larsson and Moravick, Donnelly passes the ball across the eighteen yard line Henrik dummies, and Lubo makes history. Football with pace power and precision. Under Dr Joe Venglos. Seen similar under Martin, Lenny and Brendan but less so in a less effective Celtic this season. Point being it is about playing the right ball at the right time, something wee Frimpers is more than capable of in a confident well organised team, which we no longer are. To suggest, as Paul67 has done that he would needed to have been replaced next season is nothing short of risible. He did not need to be replaced, he needed to be sold.

Love the way the blog glosses over this season’s epic failure, one for the ages.

I’ve laughed out loud at some of your posts, great sense of humour,

    are u joking here?

the reason I ask is because the one constant topic on this blog since that mince of a Europa League campaign has been this seasons epic failure,

anyway, keep posting Peter, good stuff.

  6. Tim Vickery said Laxalt would be a good signing and could play midfield, left back or wing back

Utterly shameful I wonder what the motivation for this is based on, regardless it’s an absolute disgrace.

  8. Looks like another pair of big growlers to the Victorian lavvy .. three players agreed already . We’re lagging behind them in signings too .

  9. Sevco have strengthened year after year since Gerrard arrived.

They are now building for next season.

    We are selling.

And we are looking for a new management team.

Sevco will sell more season tickets next season than we will sell.

They have a good chance of qualifying for the champions league group stages.

Until this season sevco were toxic. No one would touch them. It is now very likely that they will receive fresh investment.

There has been a complete sea change in fortunes within the last year.

All down to the dishonesty, incompetence and negligence of our board.

    Here come the tarpaulin years.

  13. Res12 is dead

    Long live Res11.

During the CST productive meeting on Tuesday the above became clear.

The answer to anyone asking what is Res11 is:

    ==============

At last AGM Celtic said Res 12 was unnecessary because Celtic would engage with relevant authorities on the issue of failing to apply their rules when the SFA abandoned their judicial investigation into 2011 non compliance with UEFA FFP by old Rangers.

The shareholders statement reported under Res11 basically said rules have to be followed or football is no longer a game.

A statement to that effect was reported on the AGM 2020 notice under Resolution 11, so whilst Resolution 12 adjourned at the 2013 AGM, which asked UEFA to investigate non compliance, was voted against by Celtic at 2020 AGM, the basis for doing that , i.e that Celtic would engage etc is reported under Resolution 11 in AGM papers.

Seeing the issue under the Res12 label has caused confusion and that is down to how Celtic technically removed Res12 2013 from future AGM agendas by promising to engage with relevant authorities (the SFA) on the non application of their rules.

Holding the SFA to their word by engaging with them is now the issue and having cleared the confusion, the CST appreciate the value in doing that, in effect holding Celtic to account to hold the SFA to account as stated under Res11 in AGM notice.

So Res12 is dead, long live Res11 to keep pressure on Celtic to pressure the SFA on a matter that becomes one of the most serious attention with every stamp, every penalty not given, every penalty give, every red card issued when a game is tight and that is applying the rules without fear or favour, not burying them from fear that favours will stop.

Res11 puts Celtic in a position of engaging relevant authorities. Shareholders via the CST whose numbers are increasing will be keeping Celtic to their word. If you want an end to the farce you pay good money to watch, join the CST to make your voice heard.

  16. the key difference between celtic and rangers right now is our head of recruitment ! they are building and adding strength. We are scrambling for loan deals, last minute bargains.

the took no chances to prepare for this season – we got complacent, cheap and cheapness led to last minute desperation – this is what celtic do

Reports tonight that the fee was under €10m.

Frimpong doesn’t yet have an end product but if he finds it he’ll end up one of the most in demand full backs in world football.

To not have any depth and by the sound sof it no plans and possibly no funds to spend on a replacement is. Again. Negligent.

It’s a strange Celtic supporter that can’t find a way to defend a Celtic manager, with a playing and managing record as good Neil Lennon, even if its just in the interest of balance that went against Neil, a long time ago.

Personally, posted misgivings about this squad and some BR legacy players well before BR left. Better teams than ours having been dismantled after league wins, and there’s more needs fixed at the club, than results.

Besides, to replace a Neil Lennon you need something we evidently don’t have, and personnel includes those at the very top.

    ==========

Res12 begat Res11 and one difference is that it it is not just a smallish group of shareholders who are pushing for remedy, the CST, whose number is now 1200, have as a matter of policy set during the Zoom meeting on Tuesday, including other policies that should appear on CST Web site that most will welcome, will be keeping Celtic to their word on engaging with the SFA as a relevant authority, who abandoned their application of Judicial process rules where it involves the dishonest behavior of a member club based at Ibrox, to the detriment of their fellow SFA Members.

This is a nettle that must be grasped by Celtic or they are seeking ST Renewals under the false pretense that the game is subject to rules that ensure fair play. The 5WA unintentionally probably, has had that effect because no one expected the secrecy to be broken but it has.

The CST meeting was professionally conducted, observed the democratic process for arriving at policies and had some excellent contributions from those attending by Zoom.

The growth in CST size and it has not finished, has many benefits and I urge anyone not a member to join. Their web page is here https://celtictrust.net/ and you can register via the login page here. https://members.celtictrust.net/login

There will be an AGM March/April where the current dissatisfaction can not only be expressed but agreement reached on how to bring it and the Celtic policies or personnel that cause it, to an end, but only if folk join.

My Rangers supporting friends are going at great lengths to mock us based on the cost of our players next to the relatively tiny outlay (bar Kent) for them.

We’ve sold players that are worth more than their first team cost.

It’s not even about spending or not spending, it just a lack of planning and organisation from top to bottom.

  23. The ways of working at Celtic park don’t change much . Every ST holder who planks there rear on a seat knows only too well the script . Wait till the last moment to try and get someone in ,who will eventually sign for someone else by the time the board get round to making a move , which will lead to an inferior player that no one else wants. we are top notch at nearly signing quality players . What s the bet we don’t know anything thats going on with regards the big changes at the club that have been hinted about , Until the season renewal end date and we will be informed that we couldn’t follow through with the plans for a million reasons , get the cash in before the big let down . Our negligence has breathed life back into the outfit we thought were dead .

  24. Watching the first 4 minutes of Tottenham and Liverpool. I shouldn’t do it, because it just reinforces the paucity of what we have viewed all season.
