Rebalance needed in Celtic central-mid

541

Transfer window business is seldom completed in May, so anticipation based on Neil Lennon’s post-match comments about having bid £3m for a player should be tempered.  We have a long close-season ahead, so I’ll avoid giving a name-check to the teenage midfielder Neil watched on international duty in February and who is being touted as a target today.

The most obvious question emerging from this story is why another central midfielder?  Celtic have Wanyama, Ki, Brown, Ledley and Kayal all battling for places there, but it’s Kris Commons who is a rare entity.  Kris is able to create goals at a rate none of the rest can.  He’s also had a disappointing season, much of which was spent watching the action from the side-lines.

The problem for Celtic in central-mid is balance.  When Kris Commons is injured, off-form, or playing in a wide position, we’re short of creativity in the middle.  For the record, creativity doesn’t mean someone who can turn in a tight space or dribble, Charlie Mulgrew was our most creative player last season (as it now is). This strong area of the squad needs rebalanced.

  1. I think we have midfield fixer/enforcer in Victor

    He is still only 20

Trust Victor or get his big brother in on loan

  2. Off to my kip reckoning that in a vote, the following would vote ‘no’ to Newco: Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd, Hearts, Hibs.

‘Yes’ to Newco and warm acceptance of cheating: Kilmarnock, St Johnstone, Motherwell, Inverness, St Mirren

    Don’t know: Ross County

Hence no Huns in spl and a double whammy of reduced crowds for those who felt cheating was ok, while hampers and picnics packed for trips to the capital, Aberdeen and Dundee.

I actually think Newco would not only fail to win enough of the vote, they’d lose it by about 6-5.

Greetings from a fantastically wet Rio De Janeiro.

Through a bit too much red wine tonight I have been trying to capture the tone of the blog.

The bit of the Celtic debate which struck with me was the historic partnerships and best strikers.

Like when Jock took over we might just be on the verge of something special. The fact that we lost 2 semis supports the view that this is part of Neil’s learning process. Neil has had no apprentiship and has had to learn on th job.

Anyway the reason for writing is that I have watched my beloved Celtic- albeit now at increasingly long intervals since 1949- and I believe the finest out and out striker we unearthed was Joe McBride.

I am sure my brother- Gordon the stats man – could support this opinion with hard evidence. The red wine is kicking in now ht in my memory he performed feats for the Bhoys in his short career which were staggering.

As far as the Downfall is concerned history will be the judge but given Ranger’s need for financial lifelines over the last few years then someday we will make the link to referees and honest mistakes which helped them win leagues and secure income.

Jelly and ice cream in Rio anyone?

    Hail,hail

Sorry for late reply….been spending time with my better half now the season’s done and dusted.

There are quite a few teach yourself guitar books that are pretty good. I’ve given all mine away over the years to learners. I used them to find basic chord structures.

Any half decent guitar/music shop should be willing to give you good advice.

But the best tutoring I ever had was sitting, watching and playing with other guitarists. When I wasn’t doing that I listened & played along to recordings;even if I wasn’t getting it right,it helped me improve. And now with YouTube etc.,. you can get tutorials on just about anything.

And,oh yeah, the other thing is practice, practice & then some more.

You’ve also got to get through the bleeding fingertips and develop callouses.

If you’ve got a love for it,it’s worth it. Any other mates your boy has who are into playing, well it can really help to sit around and jam.

Also, anyone who may give him lessons,at the age of 10,no more than 30mins.and no more than between £10 to £15 if it’s one to one. If it’s in a group situation then no more than £5.

  10. Who are these ‘they’ what everybody is talkin’ about? What is these ‘huns’? Are they a disease? And what is a CW? And why? Who is this Green character? Has Hughie come back from the dead to play football? I know nothing. I am from Barcelona. Mas que un club. Like that mighty Glasgow Celtic !

    Buenas Noches.

  11. Thought for today:

“Those who manipulate this unseen mechanism of society constitute an invisible government which is the true ruling power of our country . . . we’re dominated by the relatively small number of persons . . . it is they who pull the wires which control the public mind, who harness old social forces and contrive new ways to bind and guide the world.”  Edward Bernays – ‘Propaganda’

  12. If the misguided TFODia fans are indeed planning to disrupt the Final this weekend, I can’t help but feel glad, in a way, that we lost to Hearts. I really don’t want to see serious trouble involving Celtic and our fans.

I don’t want to see trouble at all but I most certainly don’t want our club to be dragged directly into this horrible implosion happening across the city.

  15. Good morning to all the celtic family, from an overcast coatbridge,

God bless you Tommy Burns R.I.P.

  16. If the SPL clubs vote not to allow Rangers NewCo into the SPL and they are thereby despatched to Division 3, I don’t think the Celtic support should be boycotting those clubs who voted in favour of their acceptance, as long as their stance is defeated.

With Rangers refused SPL entry, we should be man enough to move on and forget about the clubs who voted for their acceptance.

Really, what would be the point?

  17. From todays daily express, a tory tabloid rag which is no friend of Celtic

Allys warchest will be in the hunners of millions…………………………….

GREEN ALREADY HAS A WAR-CHEST FOR ALLY

CHARLES GREEN’S consortium will hand Ally McCoist a multi-million pound war chest this summer – if the Scottish Football Association can be persuaded to drop their transfer embargo.

Express Sport spoke to one of Green’s backers, former Sheffield United owner Mike McDonald, and he admitted that their group have serious wealth that has been put together from the medical worlds of Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Singapore alongside major investment from European and UK property developers.

Top football agent Paul Stretford will also have a major involvement in the football operation, helping the club to buy and sell players.

McDonald admitted that once Green’s consortium complete their takeover and sort out the debts they are willing to plough significant amounts into the team to help McCoist’s team to become big players in Scotland and the Champions League.

That investment, however, may have to be delayed unless Wednesday’s SFA appeal against their one-year transfer ban is overturned.

Charles has brought significant funds to the table because we know we need hundreds of millions to be successful at this level

Former Sheffield United owner Mike McDonald

“It is pointless to get involved if we weren’t going to invest in the playing side right away,” McDonald stated.

“We see that as a major priority, although, obviously, that is dependent on the Scottish Football Association’s transfer embargo. We know that Ally McCoist needs to strengthen his team and also to keep some of the players he already has at the club.

“We have got all our funding together for every aspect of the take over and now it is just a case of sorting it out. Charles has had a good conversation with Ally McCoist and we want him to carry on managing the team. Charles has brought significant funds to the table because we know we need hundreds of millions to be successful at this level.

You should pass that link to the Taxman.

  20. The Express story is staggering. Apart from the sheer unreality of a Scottish journalist using terms like “warchest” in relation to RFC, so soon after the last one disappeared in a puff of smoke, does Scott Burns not think that offering creditors £8.5million then promising to spend tens of millions on players makes a CVA even more… unlikely?

Why would any creditor accept pennies in the pound from these loaded spendthrifts?

  21. I see no problem with Celtic supporters who choose what Celtic away games they wish to spend they hard earned cash at

I personally will go back to away games when the SFA made up of all the clubs! becomes a fit and proper governing body for Scottish football.

The publication of the documents from the Lord Nimmo enquiry is an encouraging sign although i believe the SFA hierarchy was pushed into this position

The SPL and Neil Doncaster need to get the investigation into the dual contracts finalised and published, after all Sally wants transparency and clarity, i agree
