Rebalance needed in Celtic central-mid

541

Transfer window business is seldom completed in May, so anticipation based on Neil Lennon’s post-match comments about having bid £3m for a player should be tempered.  We have a long close-season ahead, so I’ll avoid giving a name-check to the teenage midfielder Neil watched on international duty in February and who is being touted as a target today.

The most obvious question emerging from this story is why another central midfielder?  Celtic have Wanyama, Ki, Brown, Ledley and Kayal all battling for places there, but it’s Kris Commons who is a rare entity.  Kris is able to create goals at a rate none of the rest can.  He’s also had a disappointing season, much of which was spent watching the action from the side-lines.

The problem for Celtic in central-mid is balance.  When Kris Commons is injured, off-form, or playing in a wide position, we’re short of creativity in the middle.  For the record, creativity doesn’t mean someone who can turn in a tight space or dribble, Charlie Mulgrew was our most creative player last season (as it now is). This strong area of the squad needs rebalanced.

They are sensitive wee souls for bigoted, ignorant, arrogant thugs aren’t they?

  2. Regardless of who TFOD have representing their interests, Wednesday will either be upheld or they will be punished further to show how honest our system is to those who are watching.

The writing is on the wall for TFODia.

  3. Isn`t CQN brilliant? For the last few months, all we have spoken of on here is Rangers. Now, the day after our season has ENDED, we are talking football again! Come on the hibs.

Can I please ask you all to spend one minute of your life and watch this clip. It was sent to me by a very good friend of mine that has never been to Glasgow. She is a very special lady and a fan of mine but always corrects me in my direct style of communication. She always says she enjoys my direct style but maybe I should tone it down. A contradiction maybe?

I would consider it a personal favour if you could watch this, I put it on this morning without the plea.

Zbyszek-cheers mate,I think this close season is going to be very interesting as far as transfers go.I know he is young, but I think Tony Watt will make a big impact next season. We do need a tall, experienced striker to give a different option,Mucha possibly.HH.

Definitely a spring in my stride as I head to

Manchester this afternoon to cover City’s

open-top bus parade. Whether buying it or

not they’ve widened the club of English

Premier League winners and that has to be

    good.

And some finish – even as they prepared to

roll out the red carpet for the Reds…with

five added minutes still on the board for

    City.

So optimism in the air and yes, across the

border too perhaps at Rangers, with – can it

be – the backing at last to pay off their

    creditors: the charities, councils, colleges,

small businesses – and the larger ones too.

All Rangers fans, all football fans, will want

the debts paid – as will all taxpayers no

    doubt.

But last time Rangers were sold this was the

    situation:

    1. The seller was desperate to sell the club;

    2. The process was taken at the fastest

    possible pace;

    3. The new buyer talked big about plans for

    the club;

    4. The buyer was greeted as a saviour in

    many sections of the media;

    5. Large statements were made about the

buyer’s finances with little by way of hard

    information to back them up;

    6. The buyer had a chequered record of

    company directorships;

And whaddya know? This time around all six

    apply all over again.

True, this time around there’s been some

    considered observation of Charles Green’s

    background. Helen McArdle’s excellent

piece in the Herald on Saturday sets the

    required tone of caution.

By way of filling in the (no doubt minor)

details, here’s what comes to light about Mr

Green’s almost lightning ability to flit from

    boardroom to boardroom:

    It’s mobile. It’s dynamic. It’s also a list of

    dissolved companies .

What Rangers needs, what football needs,

what business needs in these times above

all else is sustainability. This looks, on the

face of it, a doubtful CV to bring that to

    troubled Ibrox.

After Craig Whyte and the fiasco of his Ibrox

ownership, what Rangers fans deserve is

openness and transparency from Mr Green

about his past and his present.

There are commercial limits of course but

some disclosure of his financial backing

would boost confidence. So too, real

    disclosure concerning the 20-strong

    consortium. Glasgow and Scottish football

needs more than vague noises about Middle

    East and Singaporean connections.

And they need it fast. Avoiding liquidation

remains far from assured and nobody

should believe the administrators Duff and

Phelps with their catalogue of absurd hype,

    missed deadlines and pantomime rescue

    deals.

    Dispassionate, forensic, cautious work is

now needed. We can only hope that finally

Rangers have found men of their word and

    wallet, to lead.

But you have the CV – warning sign or

    otherwise.

  11. Aye, big Kevin Davies isn’t a bad shout, maybe at the age of 33 not a guaranteed starter due to fitness demands of playing approx 50 games inc european campaign, but as long as his wage demands are reasonable, he could prove to be a useful signing on a 2 year contract.

He could certainly play around 30 of the games bar injury and would give us another option up front, a target man that we have been lacking since big Jan left 3 years ago

    There are perfectly

    legitimate reasons for

    wanting to stay out of

    the public eye.

    I get that.

    Some people cherish

    their anonymity just as

    others yearn to be

    famous.

Most people who want to own a

football club fall into the latter

    category.

No one could accuse Sir David Murray

    of shunning the limelight.

These days, I suspect, he may want a

lower profile when it comes to

    matters Rangers.

A friend of mine recently interviewed

the son of one Mr Charles Green’s

    consortium.

The man, who is in business with his

father, is no stranger to the craziness

of English football fans and rather

    enjoyed the notoriety.

However, he was convinced that his

dad didn’t want his name out there on

    this one.

    He explained:

“We don’t want to be known as part

of this because of the angry people

    around Rangers!”

I was surprised to hear this.

Mr Green’s consortium is about to

    save the wonderful old institution,

woven as it is into the fabric of

    Scottish life, by investing serious

    money into Rangers.

Given that fact I would have thought

that these fine fellows would want to

take all the plaudits from the Ibrox

    faithful for their sterling work.

    Apparently not.

    Ah well.

Paddy would be out the door, imo, because he needs regular football and he is not going to get that at Celtic.

We have so much young talent, who are only going to get better. But I would love an auld heid to bring them on, like wee Bertie. Where’s the current Lubo languishing?
