Rebalance needed in Celtic central-mid

541

Transfer window business is seldom completed in May, so anticipation based on Neil Lennon’s post-match comments about having bid £3m for a player should be tempered.  We have a long close-season ahead, so I’ll avoid giving a name-check to the teenage midfielder Neil watched on international duty in February and who is being touted as a target today.

The most obvious question emerging from this story is why another central midfielder?  Celtic have Wanyama, Ki, Brown, Ledley and Kayal all battling for places there, but it’s Kris Commons who is a rare entity.  Kris is able to create goals at a rate none of the rest can.  He’s also had a disappointing season, much of which was spent watching the action from the side-lines.

The problem for Celtic in central-mid is balance.  When Kris Commons is injured, off-form, or playing in a wide position, we’re short of creativity in the middle.  For the record, creativity doesn’t mean someone who can turn in a tight space or dribble, Charlie Mulgrew was our most creative player last season (as it now is). This strong area of the squad needs rebalanced.

Murray park is a leasehold title.

    …………………………..

Thanks. How long is the lease for?

The Long Leases Bill (Scotland), which comes into force this year gives leasees the property title if leases are over 100 years.

See Mr Jones in the Sutton/Hartson role. Would be a good buy IMO, if we could afford his salary

aparently Huns own MP but there is a standard security over it ifo Kelvinside Academy Trust ……which covers the onward sale of property and it`s use for houses

Charles Green pressco 10:00pm he will exclusively reveal the tattoo of the ranjurz crest which covers his upper torso, Kennedy! you’re an amatoor!

  6. Funny how, when things just for a moment look crystal clear for the world to see at Ibrox, things all of a sudden get very very murky again.

Here’s a question. If Millers bid was the best last week why now is Green and co better?

    All roads lead to liquidation.

    It will happen.

It’s what happens next that is important. Green may or may not have time to get some sort of club up and running in time for the new season in one of the leagues in Scotland. Or he may not.

I agree with the article Paul.

What is clear is we possess the individuals necessary to dominate most games we play.

What is also clear is this doesnt always happen.

The cause in my opinion is the deployment of the wrong formations and tactics with the wrong personnel, like having Ki in midfield a 4 man midfield at the same time as having the likes of Forrest and Commons either side of him putting an enormous strain on the 4th midfielder when not in possession.

To this end I am delighted to hear Lenny is going out to study Lille for a few days – the more experience he gains from the likes of clubs who no longer operate with 442, 451 type formations the better as far as I am concerned.

Whilst we will never be a Barcelona, you dont have to be the technically best in the world to be able to read the game and find pockets of space. Barcelona, one of the most dangerous and attacking teams in the world – dont play with a single striker in most games they play in, choosing an attacking midfielder type 3 with each one roaming across the pitch from left to right making them impossible to mark.

Of the current batch possibly only Commons and maybe McCourt would flourish in the free role, Naka and Maloney were the other two recent players who had that 2 steps ahead of the game level of intelligence.

Our bhoys are lined out in fairly static, rigid formations most of the time so in my opinion, we need to go about unbalancing the balance per se

I’m pretty sure it’s a leasehold title (maybe because the terms of the trust didn’t allow the trustees to sell the ground). The balance sheet does include leasehold property, which can only be for Murray Park.

Never been convinced by this fascination some have for a big target man as some ‘other option’.

We were spoiled a bit by having both Sutton and Hartson – they were both excellent at what they did – but once you drop down from ‘top notch’ for that style of player then you’re very quickly into the Darryl Murphy’s and Chris Killens of this world. I can’t think of any other decent target-men who have donned the hoops in my lifetime and genuinely struggle to think of many who are effective in the moern game (Llorente maybe – and Carroll sporadically)

Celtic have always been at our best with two quick and skillful strikers (Wallace & Lennox; Macari & Dalglish; Nicholas & McCluskey; McClair & Judas; McAvennie & Walker etc.) – problem at the moment is that Tony Stokes is skillful but a wee bit too slow in my opinion to partner Gary Hooper effectively.

Personally, I would rather we pursued a better partner for Gary Hooper in the traditional Celtic mold rather than some second-rate target man…

I agree up to a point. What we do need is a good header of goals, something which I feel we lack. Henrik proved that you don’t have to be a giant to do this.

  22. IMO we are screaming out for someone who can head the ball at set pieces Rogne wins a lot in the air as dies Loovens but we have no-one up front.
