Rebalance needed in Celtic central-mid

541

Transfer window business is seldom completed in May, so anticipation based on Neil Lennon’s post-match comments about having bid £3m for a player should be tempered.  We have a long close-season ahead, so I’ll avoid giving a name-check to the teenage midfielder Neil watched on international duty in February and who is being touted as a target today.

The most obvious question emerging from this story is why another central midfielder?  Celtic have Wanyama, Ki, Brown, Ledley and Kayal all battling for places there, but it’s Kris Commons who is a rare entity.  Kris is able to create goals at a rate none of the rest can.  He’s also had a disappointing season, much of which was spent watching the action from the side-lines.

The problem for Celtic in central-mid is balance.  When Kris Commons is injured, off-form, or playing in a wide position, we’re short of creativity in the middle.  For the record, creativity doesn’t mean someone who can turn in a tight space or dribble, Charlie Mulgrew was our most creative player last season (as it now is). This strong area of the squad needs rebalanced.

  1. If Ticketus had a contract with Rangers and they’re now saying that they’re going to be creditors have they just confirmed that NewCo is on the way?

    Greenjedi,

Not sure about that – my point is that they seem to see their issue as with Whyte rather than Rangers.

Ticketus – it seems good news for the Huns in that Ticketus seem to be accepting they don’t own a chunk of future Huns ticket revenue.

I’d guess they’d have no chance of getting a penny from Whyte, even if they do succesfully sue him!

    Cuellar on a Bosman

Henriksen £2.5m (the fee already agreed between Rosenburg and Brugge)

    Rhodes £3-4m

    Russell £1.5m

Clear the deadwood (out of contract, out on loan) freeing up wages, sell one of our midfielders (probably Ki for around £4m) and get what we can for squad players (Paddy, Juarez, Bangura, Rasmussen)

I agree. I think it’s time for Paddy McCourt to move on. He reminds me of a kid in my boy’s under-9s team. This kid has amazing technical ability for his age. He’s always first picked because of this but in a game he has one mode: Dribble passed people and put the ball in the net. Now and again he achieves this but most of the time he dribble passed 4 players and loses the ball on the 5th tackle, or dribbles passed 5 players and loses the ball on the 6th tackle.

Net result: A talented kid who loses possession for his team most of the time.

I’m not equating McCourt to a 9 year old kid but to me he is a luxury. He’s been exciting to watch and scores great goals but for every mazy run and stunning goal there are 10 appearances where he’s anonymous. Not a good enough ratio I’m afraid.

Think we may find that Ticketus have been advised that liquidation is inevitable (by mr green ?) …… And they have no option other than to become a creditor, if they are to get ANY of their money back …. ???

    Re Ticketus

IMO the whole set up over Govan way has been a scam from the start.

Anyone that advances 24m to a Scottish football club (even worse one that was bought for £1 ) would have to be totally incompetent to be have been duped .

This begs the question if they were not duped then were they part of the scam

I never bought into CW/Ticketus being any hurdle for ragers to overcome the only two hurdles I saw was SPL re-entry and HMRC .

We know the answer to SPL so that leaves HMRC if they play ball with ragers then I believe the paranoid fans will see how far the handshake can reach in the UK

If Ticketus pursuing Craigy Bhoy they must think they will get nothing from rangers next season or in a CVA.

As a side note Green is another one who likes the idea of casinos and hotels near a football ground. I think this is what the investors are putting their money into…

  16. jock steins celtic on

my view has always been Ticketus made a big mistake in assuming there’d always be a Rangers to pay them back. to be fair outside of the internet bampots no one had a contrary view.

But can the huns now satisfy the SPL by the 1st of June as is in the SPL handbook that they have a stadium. Newco also requires to satisfy that requirement along with team colours.

    Rogue Leader,

Conversely, maybe Ticketus see the CVA route as the only way of getting something back rather than nothing – and then try to sue the ass of wee Craigy bhoy to make up the shortfall (although there is hee-haw chance of getting money out of Whyte imho).

  21. Joe Filippis Haircut on

I think we may have a problem holding on to Hooper in the closed season if an EPL club come in with a large bid say 8 or 9 Million which many of them can afford we may find it hard to refuse. That is todays football scene Money talks.H.H.

  22. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Maybe Murray was behind Octopus and was cutting his losses over the huns. Ticketus suing Whyte is Murray ensuring Craig does not profit from the assets.

According to timetable the CVA will still be under consideration until 6th June:

I think that on 1st June there will be only RFCIA and it will still have stadium and strip and SPL share.

Accepting the rule you have quoted, the deadline cannot be met.

Of course, rules are not always followed followed.

  25. Anyone hear anything about SDM at the High Court in Edinburgh today trying to put through an interdict to prevent BBC showing a documentary about his tenure at Rankers to be shown on 23rd May ????

Re Paddy I made a point of watching his every move whilst he was involved both at the match and later on TV. Other than one pass which was a shade too hard for Gary Hooper he never wasted a single pass or lost a ball whlist in possession. When given the central role he is clearly under orders to keep passing the ball and not attempt to beat opposing players. His introduction was seamless hence the reason you barely noticed him…and to be honest that is a good thing in itself. I happen to think he is the best passer of a ball we have in the squad in terms of variety, quick thinking and incisiveness. We have too many midfield players making the square passes; Paddy in my opinion can provide the alternative direct defence -splitting pass better than anyone and could and should be an integral part of the squad.

  27. ibleedgreenandwhite1, quite the opposite, from what I read today Ticketus have announced they are not working with Rangers (the previously discussed removing part of their debt from the pot). They have taken up position in the creditors’ pot. I don’t think this will be a passive position.

fan-a-tic, the autumn pick-up in form coincided with central mid protecting the defence.

    PFayr, aye, so sue me!

  28. Can anyone help me on this point,do the administrators/mr green get one shot

at a CVA or can they try and negotiate a better deal if there first offer is refused?,

surely the huns are running out of time to get things in place if people can

object to the CVA up until 6th june
