Respect deserved

892

We’ve seen a few difficult games against Hamilton Accies in recent years, including what proved to be a costly draw after being denied a late winner at New Douglas Park, but we’ve never met them in this form.

Hamilton have the longest unbeaten run in Scotland.  They lost their opening league game of the season, at home to Inverness, but have won seven and drawn two of their subsequent nine games.  Their 0-4 win away to Motherwell last week was a display of sharp, organised football – and remember, Motherwell took at point at Celtic Park the previous weekend.

Alex Neil will have no intentions of leaving pointless tomorrow.  This is the game he and his players will have been waiting for since the fixtures were announced four months ago.  Their four SPLF away games: wins at St Mirren, Partick and Motherwell, and a draw at Tannadice, has been preparation for Celtic Park.

If Celtic have a Europa League hangover, Accies will boss them.  Forget the lowly status of the club, respect is needed if we are the get the desired result and performance required.

I’m running the Great Scottish Run in aid of Celtic Foundation tomorrow morning, which presents a, erm, personal hygiene challenge for the game.  It’ll be a full can of deodorant day.  If you have a £1 or two for the fundraising, you can help here.

    Kevtic,

That’s exactly what I said at last week’s game, getting back at 7 on a Sunday was a pain.

  3. Reading back..

Cant believe boruc is on loan to bournmouth.. Must have been one of the best goalies in epl last season.. Hope he doesnt go off the rails again.

The nightshift reading been good lately, great tims.

  4. I’m a firm believer in the Delia diet, footballers should behave like athletes, some will not like it..let them eat chips at home..behind closed doors ;-) In general it can only do good, but a little wiggle room needs to be left for team morale. I would also rather we played a passing game like Swansea etc but I’ll take what Ronnie gives us.

  5. Fai cup semi final today

Would love to be heading to dublin with the Red Army, draw would be good result and bring them back to the brandywell. Or even better thump them in dublin. Fenlon deserves it

Hopefully its an all ulster final .. Would be great to see.

Henrik Larsson smoked and ate chips (not necessarily at the same time).

Chris Sutton was partial to the occasional half a dozen pints of Guinness over a game of dominoes in the Old College Bar .

    John Hartson was John Hartson.

They wouldn’t have made the grade in the new super fit, show us your six pack, Spartan Celtic.

  12. Ernie – I keep hearing this about Larsson, Hartson and Sutton.

Firstly, even in the last 10 years, football has moved on significantly.

Secondly, will Kris Commons, Stokesy and co be better footballers if they are fitter and faster? Of course.

Thirdly, how many of our young players – who have shown all the promise in the world, only to fail to make the grade – would have achieved more if brought up in a proper, professional environment?

Just because Big John succeeded in the game despite his lifestyle is not argument for us failing to do everything in our powers to make every player better.

  13. Prayers said to for our dearly departed St John Doyle and his family.

Although I never met him, we had mutual friends who we talked about on the blog.

Was at the Beer Cafe on November 16th last year to toast his memory and was delighted to meet his lovely wife and family and a multitude of wonderful CQN’ers.

My thanks to Lennybhoy for organising the day.

It still brings a tear to my eye when I think about it.

God bless all CQN’ers and Paul67 for giving us this platform.

Is it ok to agree with Ronny’s diet & fitness philosophy but deplore his match tactics?

I am still unconvinced too mate, but to critisize the guy for trying to make players fitter is ridiculous IMO.HH

  18. BIG-CUP-WINNERS on

See Ronny has miscalculated on the points we’ll need to qualify from that Diddy EL cup !

    Shocking – SACK LAWWELL.

What we need is a passionate, successful manager like Super Ally. This guy bleeds Rangers. From the Sunday Mail another forthright piece:

RANGERS boss Ally McCoist has hinted he could never manage any other club.

McCoist eased the pressure on himself yesterday with a 1-0 victory over Livingston but his side still trail Championship leaders Hearts by six points.

The Gers gaffer has faced fierce criticism since his side lost 3-1 at home to Hibs last Monday.

He has repeatedly vowed not to quit and has now admitted he would find it difficult to work for any club other than Rangers.

When asked if he could see himself with another side, McCoist said: “I think anybody in this country knows where my allegiances lie. I’m 100 per cent with this club.

“I’ve been like that as a supporter, a player, a coach and a manager.

“For me, Rangers are the only club that exists anywhere, never mind in this country.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of people, top managers who have worked at the Old Firm, and every one of them has said that it’s a different job elsewhere. It’s easier to handle than here.”

Despite facing flak after the Hibs match, McCoist is adamant he hasn’t had to seek any assurances from Ibrox chief executive Graham Wallace about his position. He said: “I haven’t looked for it.

“I’ve spoken to Graham and we went through the game.

“I’ve spoken to him a few times but I didn’t look for assurances and he didn’t feel the need to give me them.”

McCoist also hit back at snipers who claim Gers should be sweeping away teams due to their budget.

He said: “If money was the answer Man City would win every game.

“As a player I never once went on a park and said: ‘I don’t fancy this today, he’s on £400 a week’.”

    Could Celtic afford him ?
