The bedrock Celtic built their record-breaking league win on last was the defence; we went months without conceding, serious chances for opponents were written up lustily. A large part of the summer shambles was the contrasting nature of our defensive play; Legia Warsaw scored six but they also missed a hatful.
While our results have improved in recent weeks it’s the defensive record which has shown the most marked up-lift. We’ve conceded only twice in seven games, a ricochet against Astra and that goal against Hamilton. By contrast, we kept only a solitary clean sheet in the seven games prior to this run.
On the surface, we looked shaky in defence for the latter parts of the game against Inverness on Saturday, but while there is still work to do, the defence can be encouraged that they are able to withstand sustained pressure – and that they can rely on their keeper, when necessary.
A couple of action points for you:
Magners are donating £18,300 to the Celtic Foundation. The money will go to the four areas the Foundation work: Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty, in proportion to how fans nominate those areas. To participate, tweet @MagnersUK with one of the following hashtags: #Health, #Equality, #Learning or #Poverty.
Magners have been a great help to our campaign to build a fourth CQN school kitchen for Mary’s Meals in recent weeks, so I’m keen we support and encourage this initiative. £18,300 is a huge bonus for the Foundation, they will do great work with it.
The Foundation are full on with their Christmas strategy at the moment. This year money will be split between those who look after the homeless and vulnerable, and individual families – identified by grassroots organisations, to help them buy gifts for kids and put a Christmas meal on the table.
This work is being done in your name, so make sure you’re aware of it.
The inaugural Foundation ladies’ lunch event, Ghirls for Good, takes place on Saturday 13 December, proceeds towards the Christmas Appeal. If you qualify……. Book here.

So with 2 tough away games in the next 5 days what are the expectations or, more accurately, what’s the worst we’re looking for?
If we remain undefeated I think I’d be pretty content with that. But think we might do even better.

It was his Birthday last week as well. What a lhad.

Bgx,
The team at times looks more comfortable with an extra man in midfield but our 3 biggest wins of the season were all whilst playing 4-3-3.

Ronny spoke very well. He was articulate and passionate.
He spoke about his desire to build partnerships all over the pitch. I don’t think he’s helped the players with the continual changes he’s made to personnel.
He spoke about the aim being to have an entire team who’ll chase back when defending, not just 6 or 7.
He spoke about the type of players he’s hoping to bring in in January. Confident, comfortable on the ball, fit and players that will forge partnerships with those in place.
There was also talk about slight improvements with players etc engaging with supporters with Izzy, Johansen, Guidetti and Brown applauding the supporters after the last two home games.
He hopes that this will increase/ improve and admitted that he himself may need to do more at games to engage with the support.
He mentioned that at away games he would consider going to speak to supporters inside the ground before KO. He said it would be easier to do this at away grounds because mostly the Celtic support are located in only one area of the ground.
Bgx,
Forget it.
All our big wins were versus pish teams. ;)

Win them both nothing less or my head should go.

He also spoke about the negative effect that abuse can have on players particularly the younger ones.

Thanks for that.
Delighted WGS has selected Mc Leo’s.
Hope he plays him.
Then again I’m supporting the Rep of Ireland.

When we play sevco and if they get promotion it will be like north korea, the GB will be banned/limited/tied up somewhere, banners with any mention of sevco or status will be confiscated, telly mic’s will be moved as far away from the Celtic support as possible,Kim Jong Ogilvie ,the Polis and the Ouijia will do their best to make sure that not even supporters can mention the big cover up.

A win in Romania would set us up lovely. I am pinning everything on that one as it is the next game.
Just watched highlights of us winning 3-1 in the Amsterdam ArenA back in the day, just to set the trend.
What a bloody performance that was. I know Ajax were a young inexperienced side but I came away from that thinking we had joined the big boys again.
Any win in Romania is a good win.
Jobo
If we win away to Astra I think we’ll take at least a point away to Aberdeen.
I’d be happy with that.
HT,

Like that, maybe get them to attend supporters clubs nights and interact with the fans…the “commons touch”.
Jobo,
Hoping for the win on Thursday but won’t be suicidal with the draw.
3pts Sunday with the return of the super Swede :)

I’d hoped to ask about the functions issue but didn’t get the chance. Hopefully next time :-)

I like how Ronny Deila goes about his business. I think given time and support that he will transform us into a modern European side, and success will follow.
Then hopefully we can stop measuring ourselves against a club that doesn’t even exist.
HT- FOCUS will lift Ronny if he goes near the fans at an away game.:) Good to see him engaging with the fans.

I think the much missed excellent CQner CelticFirst used to watch the games at St Werburgh’s, which is near the town centre.

I still have my doubts about his abilities but there are now signs of hope that weren’t there a month ago. That’s my opinion anyway.

it’s a shame to see Britain’s most successful team in Europe put out a second string tea against the greatest European team of all.
“In the case of Tonev however we demand to see evidence that he had committed that in which he is accused. Otherwise, we will consider that the penalty is biased and exaggerated.”
Tonev has made ten appearances for the Parkhead club since joining on a season-long loan deal from Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.
When contacted by STV, the Scottish FA said they would not be making any com
