Return to SNP sender, when one becomes six

658

I’m not taking the SPFL- face recognition plan too seriously but that’s not to say the politics behind the suggestion should be ignored. Scottish football has no hooligan problems, compared England or the Continent our game is orderly and sedate. Until recent years there was no such thing as a flare problem, and offensive signing was a thing of the past.

All that changed when the SNP government got involved in 2011. Two managers shouted at each other after a game, three Rangers players were ordered off, and First Minister, Alex Salmond decided a summit was necessary to reign in the game’s wilder elements. What utter tosh.

Three weeks later, Justice Minister, Kenny MacAskill congratulated fans on creating a great atmosphere at the League Cup Final, which was notable for the re-emergence of the previously eradicated Billy Boys song. At an instant MacAskill rebased what was acceptable behaviour at Scottish football.

Since then the game has been trying to put the genie back in the bottle. The arguments were rehearsed in the CQN comments pages and elsewhere, “They are congratulated by the Government for singing The Billy Boys and we can’t sing about nationalist politics”, or words to that effect. Songs which had disappeared from the Celtic support lexicon were soon back and remain. Incalculable damage done by two incompetent clowns.

Since then the Scottish Government and a very small number (very small indeed) of senior officers at Police Scotland decided to subject football fans to the kind of surveillance that would make a military junta of a banana republic blush.

It’s a mess. Officers on the ground readily complain in private, all other political parties pledge to repeal the Offensive Behaviour’ Act, while sheriffs line up to mock cases arising from the Act. Football has been left to pick up the pieces left from a Scottish Government created problem. The Government refuse to accept any liability, will not repeal the Act and having celebrated a new, low, standard for spectator behaviour, seem quite happy with the situation.

Scottish football was doing very well before the Government decided to rebase what is acceptable behaviour. No football authority will succeed in any endeavour if the government is working against it. What the SPFL did was make a clear, if clumsy, attempt to return the problem to sender – the newly disinterested in football Scottish Government.

When one becomes six

I’ve scoured the internet today but cannot see any complaints about Celtic’s alleged “one up front” tactics. This season hasn’t gone to plan, but we’re making an incredible number of chances and scoring a remarkable number of goals.

One up front leaves space for, what is in effect, two wingers on each flank, and an attacking mid able to work inside the box.

CQN (and a few other timternets) are in meltdown because of the inevitable rebirth of the Old Firm. 45% of Celtic supporters do not like this one bit and the other 55% canny wait. This is the schizm. This is the failure. This is what our current custodians have visted upon us. This is the 5 way agreement. This is the silence. This is the attacks on the Celtic supporters from the custodians. This is filthy hun like SFA greed in Celtic clothing, This is the end. Now its WWF timtertainment and the love of the bigot buck. I will post on Timternets till the first new OF league game then I will bid farewell for you who are left to bitch whine and moan about the hun sodomy and the lash. Good luck.

Hamilton Park Friday evening 13th May. Fancy it? PF Ayr, Chris, myself and big John already booked into hospitality but I can add to the table if I move reasonably quickly. Be great to see you again, been too long! By the way, I still can’t text or call you, unless I reply to a text from you. It’s odd. Anyone else fancy a night at the races, you’re most welcome. –

  18. People who wish to filter out comment on a blog to suit their personal taste really don’t get what a site like this is all about. In my opinion.

  19. Villa reported to be lining up £5m bid for Johansen.

Sell, if true. The one area of the pitch where we can afford to ‘lose’ a couple of players is midfield. His form has dipped dramatically this season, although he’s been a bit better the last few games, and with a bid for the Croat also reported to have gone he in a replacement is already being lined up.

  20. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

THE idea of Rangers and Celtic joining the English Premier League has been thrust into the limelight once again after it was revealed Lithuanian champions FK Zalgiris have applied to UEFA to join the Polish league, insisting it is a higher standard.

Both Mark Warburton and Ronny Deila have previously expressed support for the idea of their respective clubs playing in England.

Stewart Reagan Chief executive of the SFA stated “Rangers and Celtic will not be allowed to join the English FA we will strictly forbid it. Loosing both Glasgow giants at the same time within the same season will undoubtedly bring civil unrest and will not be considered”

However he did not rule out the possibility of letting one of the Glasgow giants leave for a trial period, “As we the SFA have recently demonstrated it is possible to lose one of the Old Firm from the top tier and business to continue. We would have to judge the Scottish football environment at the time of such an invite which cannot be made until Rangers are in the SPFL. We need at least one of them in the top tier”

  21. No wonder good posters are leaving.

By cliques do you mean the people who having been posting on here for years who became friends on and off the blog through their love of Celtic?

By cliques do you the people who having found a place to post tried to keep up a decent standard and a few wee simple ideas of how folk should approach each other.

By cliques do you mean the folk like me who can’t get to Celtic park anymore and found this wee oasis of Celticness where they could connect with like minded souls every day all day if they wanted too.

Or did you mean something else as you are one of the worst for promoting the idea that this place was cliquey even though you were invited like I was by the great Celtic men and women to be found here to be a part of the CQN community.

I hope you are happy to see more and more great Celts driven from this place daily by folk who think it’s a clique and to see it descend into nothing more than an argy bargy square go every other day.

What a chance squandered by you and the other clique busters..

Sketch the trees and the daffodils

Catch the breeze and the winter chills

In colors on the snowy linen land

    Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how

    Perhaps they’ll listen now

    Starry, starry Plough

    Flaming flowers that brightly blaze

    Swirling clouds in violet haze

Reflect in Vincent’s eyes of china blue

    Colors changing hue

    Morning fields of amber grain

    Weathered faces lined in pain

Are soothed beneath the artist’s loving hand

    Now I understand

What you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

They would not listen, they did not know how

    Perhaps they’ll listen now

For they could not love you

But still your love was true

And when no hope was left in sight

    On that starry, starry Plough

You took your life, as lovers often do

But I could’ve told you Vincent

This world was never meant for

    One as beautiful as you

    Starry, starry Plough

    Portraits hung in empty halls

    Frame-less heads on nameless walls

With eyes that watch the world and can’t forget

Like the strangers that you’ve met

The ragged men in ragged clothes

The silver thorn of bloody rose

Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow

    Now I think I know

What you tried to say to me

And how you suffered for your sanity

And how you tried to set them free

I have been very busy these last two years also. Working often away from home.

The community that is CQN does not depend on my support for Celtic.

The Celtic community for me is Celtic.

Like Starry I find CQN an oasis of pleasure .. mainly due to the posters who I have got to know from afar and virtually.

So anyone who wants to give up on it then good luck to you. I always scrolled past those that have one opinion or are just trolling. The new filter saves my index finger from Scrolling that is all. Nothing I have ever read on here has shocked me except for maybe news like someone passing away or being sickly
