Rogic endorsement of direction of travel

538

Tom Rogic is good.  Very good.  He has scored cup winning goals, league winning goals, scored against Newco at three different venues, and most deliciously, has scored Champions League qualification goals.  That old football adage, “Yes, but can he do it when it really matters?”, is never asked about Tom.

With one year left on his existing Celtic contract, he is off with Australia to the World Cup, the most prominent shop window in the game, where good players with a one-year balance on their contracts are a premium.

The news that he signed a five-year contract yesterday has surprised many, including me.  One week ago today, when I asked a ‘senior source at Celtic’ the prospects or retaining his services, I was not encouraged.  “The money on offer in England……..”

This deal is an endorsement of the direction the club is heading from within the dressing room.  Players know where the club is going, Tom knows.  That’s why he has signed.  I am sure his contract reflects his ability, but I am also sure he could have earned more elsewhere.  And five years!!  That’s nearly a Jim McLean!

Good luck tomorrow, Tom, let’s have a repeat of last season’s Cup Final.

  1. My 19th Scottish Cup Final today. First was in 72 and a 6-1 win over Hibs (would settle for that today).

I’ve seen 15 victories out of 18 so far, confident it’ll be 16 by 5pm.

Match their commitment and physicality early on then let the ability take control, same as the League Cup Final earlier in the season.

The team picks itself. 3-1 win after losing first goal.

Kelly’s in Luz will be showing it. Going there in about 8 weeks – Luz and Kelly’s, can’t wait.

What a glorious morning in Dalmuir on the day we hope to make history in a double treble way. Happy to report that everyone going to shops for milk and rolls are resplendent in Green and White Hooped shirts. This is the day….

    Dalmuir is Green and White!

A double treble, you say? Technically, that’s 3/8ths of a pint, although my glass is generally half full.

Nothing awkward about that-just send him a bill for the reception!

  11. The worst one I was at was 1990 We lost to Aberdeen on penalties. (Anton Rogan ggrrrr).

The only high point of the day was I met Rod Stewart outside the stadium and he signed my programme.

  12. This time last year was just back from Lisboa heading for Hampden with EuroChamp67’s brief, this year I’ve nabbed the great Jobo Baldie’s. so no pressure.

A tale of two Tom Rogic finals we hope, and it’s also a McAvennie, Provan McGarvey ,Dixie type morning in sun kissed Glasgow with all Huns stuck indoors watching Hewitt v Markle in their only cup final.

Brendan Rodgers has played it cool all week in the barren SMSM ‘coverage’ and the only expected change to his side that started last week will be Gordon for Bain? – that’s barring injury where our Celtic side for big games, rarely fails.

With Griffiths Armstrong Roberts and Sinclair gagging for the gig three of them will have to settle for leaving the bench, in a game that will require all of Celtic’s powers.

Motherwell are a tough nut to crack because they possess a goal threat in Main and co, and I’m expecting this final like Tom’s last, to go all the way to 93 mins, but Celtic to make history as only Celtic can.

Can’t wait to get there. No nerves which is a wee worry. Thinking/hoping it’ll be 3 or 4.

Enjoy your BBQ with your family.

  14. DBhoy thanks for your reply.

I will do a bit of digging/ asking and see if 61 games in a season is a record or what is the record, I do not however think that will be on our players minds. Adrenaline should takeover.

If We match thier grit and gyle, then our class should take control.

  17. Enjoy you day Celts where ever you may be, it’s days like this that bring the memories flooding back and the excitement of watching history being made is one of the great gifts of this particular Celtic team and manager.

  18. Murdochauldandhay what a lovely flag for people entering and exiting Saltcoats to see.

It reminds me of the Garngad one a few years ago, which was draped from a 2up tenement to the bottom.

The bhoys used to take it to the game as well, don’t know what’s happe to that now.

  19. I met Billy Stark outside B&Q Drumchapel the other day. Billy if you read this blog………It was a pleasure watching you and the Bhoys during the centenary.

Enjoy yourself! I’ll be watching on from a safe distance.

Looked at buying hospitality for the game, but the FTSFA wanted £360 a head. Had a chat with Merrylee Bhoy and we decided to FTSFA, sky the park and make a wee weekend of it up north.

Got to be honest,I’ve got a pretty good record when it comes to Scottish Cup finals. I think the only defeat I’ve attended is 84 v Aberdeen.

    League Cup finals,not so good…

  23. I am clock watching constantly, and tensions are running high here.

So hard luck Mr David White and all you orangemen

The Celtic have defeated you once again.

Although you say you didn’t play anything like your best
