Rogic endorsement of direction of travel

538

Tom Rogic is good.  Very good.  He has scored cup winning goals, league winning goals, scored against Newco at three different venues, and most deliciously, has scored Champions League qualification goals.  That old football adage, “Yes, but can he do it when it really matters?”, is never asked about Tom.

With one year left on his existing Celtic contract, he is off with Australia to the World Cup, the most prominent shop window in the game, where good players with a one-year balance on their contracts are a premium.

The news that he signed a five-year contract yesterday has surprised many, including me.  One week ago today, when I asked a ‘senior source at Celtic’ the prospects or retaining his services, I was not encouraged.  “The money on offer in England……..”

This deal is an endorsement of the direction the club is heading from within the dressing room.  Players know where the club is going, Tom knows.  That’s why he has signed.  I am sure his contract reflects his ability, but I am also sure he could have earned more elsewhere.  And five years!!  That’s nearly a Jim McLean!

Good luck tomorrow, Tom, let’s have a repeat of last season’s Cup Final.

  2. Bobby, I was at the next year’s final (Hospitality ticket) Motherwell & Dundee Utd. I didn’t know who to support, Motherwell my local team but I’ve always had a soft spot for the Arabs. Can’t remember who won! But it was a good day out.

I know who I’m supporting today, and it aint the local team.

They film that show Suits beside my office, so I used to that Megan Markle around. Cute enough, but wasn’t sure . Hadn’t seen her for a while, then heard she was swanning around with that a Harry fella … I just assumed that she was just using him to make me jealous ….

Just saw her on TV …

Starting to think I may have played a bit too hard to get….

  6. The last Scottish Cup Final I attended was in 1988.

  9. Having been unable to sleep any later than 6.15 this morning I have already…

6.20 – Returned my Bhoy’s car to Paisley (I had it on loan for a week as he was on holiday)

6.55 – Had this great idea to cycle back to East Kilbride. Discovered hills that I never knew existed, all going up the way.

7.30 – After about 9 miles I had reached Busby and had a brainwave – next train to EK is due in 5 – 10 minutes. Fortunately I had a few quid in my pocket. me and bike boarded safely

7.45 – Off the train, back on the bike for the last mile home

    8.00 – Breakfast at last

9.00 – Time going too slowly so down to the Centre to visit the Celtic shop and buy something suitable for today’s game

9.10 – Decided not to jinx today’s game and to stick to my already owned lucky green clothing

9.25 – Back home, couple of coffees and siting out in the sunshine

10.15 – rearranged the living room for today’s visitors, putting up ‘use other door’ signs in green and gold.

    11.00 – Cut the grass

11.50 – posted this and now off to pick up my daughter and granddaughter…..

    190 minutes to go….

  10. Doing my utmost to avoid almost blanket coverage of the wee wedding in Windsor today. So have tuned in to TV GOLD to watch the Fools and Horses episode where Del boy has a consignment of exploding sex dolls.

  11. Good luck to all Celts today.

From a worriers point of view, ah jist hope that Big Stevie Clark didny drop his notebook oot his pocket up in Motherwell during the week ?

MAAH, cracking banner in the home of Celtic’s greatest player imho, Bobby Lennox √

Seen and been at dozens of Celtic cup finals.

Some tatooed like shining beacons that scream “Victory to the underdogs! ”

Some that are accompanied with the dark clouds of mibbery!

Some, like the 1980 riot that screamed “Don’t f..k wi the Jungle! ”

For me, what authenticates a Cellic cup final, is a spine tingling rendition of YNWA, in the unique style were, you jist know, that its, a Cellic walk on.

Bring back the auld, unseated, uncovered, underdog Cellic end walk on’s real Cellic yins, no the all seated, all covered, flashy new motor yins, that don’t have a soul.

WEEBAWBABBITY, enjoy, amigo HH, God bless.

  13. Usually, I am a ted nervous before any big games; Today, I am not. Well, I wasn`t but now I am worried about not being nervous. If I wasn`t worried about it, I would be worried about not being worried.

  14. I see one of these three results after 90 minutes:

0-0; 3-0 or 5-0 ( Just for Lawrence who sits in front of me and always bets on that score).

Bring back the old Celtic end ? No thanks.

The 1980 win was a day like today and the ash heap that was the Celtic end was tinder dry.

Celtic scored and I got hoisted up on a barrier. Just high enough to avoid the dust cloud that 30,000 Celtic fans jumping around created.

  19. I was in the uncovered Celtic end for the semi against Motherwell in 91.

Pished down most of the second half. Long walk back to the bus after seeing you’re team getting beat, absolutely drenched. Bad memory that one.

The final was a high scoring end to end affair and a great game for any neutral watching.

  21. A tad nervous and very excited ………….., but Harry has just done the business and said the magic words, “COYBIG” but that’s enough about the Royal Wedding.

I was doing OK until some killjoy above broke the news (fake, I hope) that Mousssa is to have a late fitness test. I’m expecting a bit of a rough house today with at least one red card. I think though that we will prevail by keeping the heid and playing football. Great to attend a big game on a beautiful sunny day in short sleeves.

  28. Just finished cutting the grass, today has been about gym stuff, visiting parents, cutting daughters grass, playing with grandson briefly, running Lhad to station to meet his mates as they head to Hampden.
