Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

    They cudda been contenders

But in 1977 they played a gig at UCD ( university college dublin) and at that gig a young man who lived around the corner from me was stabbed to death, stabbed in the back in an unprovoked attack,

as a result the tabloid press in Dublin started a witch hunt against Punk Rock etc and The Radiators in particular,

So they emigrated to London,Philip Chevron ended up with the Pogues ( he wrote Thousands are Sailing)

Took that survey on Scottish football governance, and for anyone thinking of letting the SFSA speak for you or count you as one of their own, know this

I canvassed the SFSA for advice and help regarding Resolution 12 which has a direct impact on Scottish Football governance, I and Res 12 were dismissed by the SFSA as an old firm issue. The SFSA has no interest in Scottish football governance other than to use as a self-serving cause to advance their leaderships personal interests, power and prosperity. Identical to the leadership of the existing failing football governing bodies, they simply want a ticket to get on the gravey train.

McCluskey famously represented Paul McCartney in 1972 after the former Beatle had been charged with a number of offences, including growing cannabis, on his Machrihanish farm. The trial was to take place in Campbeltown. He managed to get all but one of the charges dropped on technical grounds and the pop star pleaded guilty to growing cannabis.

To the amusement of the court, the QC argued that his client had a genuine interest in horticulture and a fine of £30 was imposed.

He recalled what happened next to The Scotsman in 2005. “At the end of the hearing, Len Murray (McCartney’s solicitor) leaned over to me and said, ‘Ask for time to pay’. So I did, and the place erupted. It was the coup de thtre to the day.”

Hard to replace Roberts – the goals, assists and all round entertainment. Looks like Pep is giving him a chance as promised.

Robert’s is a class act. We wont miss him against Rosenborg, tie’s a given.

It’s the next round, the final qualifier I’m concerned about.

Praying Jimmy Forrest to have a good game doesnt bear thinking about.
