Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

  1. Morning all.

When I renewed my season ticket for 2017-18 I opted in to the Home ticket scheme for the first time. I had thought that my season card would then only be automatically activated (and charged) for domestic cup ties but the announcement about Rosenborg tickets suggests that it’ll apply for European games too.

So am I correct in thinking that I don’t need to do anything other than turn up next Wednesday and hope they’ve remembered I’m now in the scheme?

Oh and one week / seven sleeps to Aberdour, can’t wait ;-)

  6. It’s disgusting and beyond belief that Celtic have broken UEFA rules with regards kit. It won’t be long before we have a full stadium closure for kit infringements.

The stairwell blocking is the one that got me. When will our board learn that they are tarnishing the reputation of our support with these infractions and giving our enemies even more reason to hate us. I don’t live in Turnbridge Wells but I’m nevertheless disgusted.

  8. Actually, it was the banners that got me – Celtic really are determined to get the stadium closed so they can get rid of BR and give his salary to PL – I blame the board.

He was replaced by someone called Brahim Diaz and Pep ended up raving about the talent of another young midfielder, Phil Foden.

I hope we still have a chance to compete for his signature, so he can compete with James Forrest again.

Of course if the GB had turned up at Windsor Park the same posters on here giving them pelters for not going would have had a field day.

The reason UEFA don’t like any form of protest at their events is that they are every bit as questionable as the liars and cheats in the SFA and the SPFL. Cut from the same corrupt cloth unfortunately. IMO.

The problem with the GB display the other night was that it wasn’t insightful enough and didn’t highlight the collusion between the authorities and the Hun. (football and otherwise). The chosen representations proved to be a distraction from the overall message and confirmed the entrenched fears of the Loyalists that they are safer sticking with an Orange/Unionist agenda. That Celtic/Nationalism continues to be a threat.

While I would love to see us tone down the needless intensity of Rebs which we hear in the modern era, I think voices like Nelson could do with a chorus or two being sung outside his house.

Still pretty hacked off about Wednesday. It was not the banners which offended me it was the spell just after the second goal when some old hits were belted out with such venom. I mentioned the look on my Lisburn born friend yesterday but in some ways more telling still was the reaction of a couple of Celtic supporting workmates who bith said to me ‘too much rebs last night’ (adjective omitted in one of their cases). This was Linfield we were playing – we know what they are and should know that the best way we can show how pathetically insignificant they are is to ignore them. They are as a character in The Long Good Friday said of and to Harold Shand ‘you are the sh*t on their shoes’.

I don’t know where this is leading with UEFA – I am pretty sure they are a complacent, corruot organisation but we are stuck with them so they matter- but I am sure that if and when the day comes that we get more rather more than a fine that we’ll all just say that we did as much when we were their age so they are still a great bunch of lads. As we watch recorded highlights of a game played against Juventus or Man Utd or whoever in an empty stadium.

Confused as the why the offending “terrorist” banner was not removed by the police or club stewards.
