Rosenborg a shadow of former self

874

Congratulations to Celtic, who last night became the first Scottish team to win a European tie since, Celtic, last season. While I am sure we would all have preferred to face Dundalk in the next Champions League qualifying round, a trip to Norway to face Rosenborg will be welcome by the club.

Rosenborg are not the same force we faced 16 years ago, and even that team was a shadow of the team who tested Real Madrid a few seasons earlier. The Norwegians succumbed to the inevitable forces of economic plunder, as clubs from richer leagues picked off their talent at increasingly earlier ages.

We should have more than enough in the tank for this one.

I got a 2CD compilation of The Humblebums a few years back. I confess to being pleasantly surprised by how good most of their stuff was.

I think it was because I love Billy Connolly as a comedian, and had always rated Gerry Rafferty as a top musician, and didn’t think that could have worked together for them.

    It sure did.

How did you enjoy Wednesday’s match? I reckon it started just as I was starting work and ended just when you were starting work!!

  5. I’ve never liked any Celtic board, not one…..

    although, I don’t think that, Michael Kelly…..

would have, looked the other way, during….

    awe the ebt swindle….imho.

But, if I was on the board right now….

    I’d immediately charge fans 250 quid….

for tickets for our game at Rosenberg.

Crazy ? Well, better to be crazy the right way…

I know it will be tough on fans who travel away….

    But,….what’s more important ?

    1. Fans uber Tim statuses ?

    Or,…..

    2. Celtic facing a lengthy ban from Europe, because of some, back of the bus, plastic Provo hard men ?

250 quid – If ye don’t want to pay it, don’t go. Simples.

The PLC might well meet their makers…..soon enough, but, they canny be blamed for the antics of a rabble who are no more than, the other side of the old firm coin and, indeed, any Celtic supporter who has paid 49 quid for a ticket to watch an apparently, “new club”…..well, you just prove the other side of the coin charge.

Did ye pay 49 quid to watch a new club called, Gretna FC ?

    Naaaah, didny think so.

The JUNGLE sang in support of the oppressed, during the Troubles.

But, nowadays, the Troubles have been replaced by peace.

Surely the guid folk from across the sea, don’t need to look at their TV screens and, see images from Glasgow, celebrating those days ?

Maybe that’s the reason for awe the boldness, in Glasgow….?

if yeez went to Windsor Park with those flags, yeez would probably have ended up on tap of wan o yon, Billy Bonfires…..

    Anyway,…..

Dont try to make oot that yer a rebel….

Stick to collecting for food banks….

And be a Celt….that’s what it is “really” all about.

    ……off-oot.

    Bobby.

I first saw Billy when he was a back up singer for Matt Mc Ginn at Jimmy Logan`s Metropole in `68 .

My mate and I and sundry other female accompaniments followed the Humblebums faithfully after that .

The alternative was Andy Stewart or Kenneth Mc Kellar ……….not that there was anything wrong with them . They just didn`t represent the Scotland I lived in .

Can you imagine……….the combo of Billy and his humour and Gerry and his god given vocals ?

    To die for.

    Seriously.

Can`t tell you how much I love our future prospects under Brendan.

I`m patient. Ronny has taught me that .

    :-)

We are on an upward trajectory .

    That`ll do for me.

    Lucky sod. Aye,impressed indeed.

I think I was about 15 when City to City came out. An older friend recommended it to me,and I was hooked. Another one to add to my by-then burgeoning list of stuff that is seriously uncool to listen to,but bloody marvellous!

As if I cared,of course. I would rather listen to the good stuff than the cool stuff.

    I heard Gerry singing ” Mother Nature`s son ” in a Burnside Hotel mid `70s .

    Better than Mc Cartney .

    Truly.
