You try to do what your manager wants to do

    ________

I would agree with that but unfortunately we don’t know what Brendan wants.

Congrats to our bhoys last night

Rosenberg are prob, imo, better than anything we face in Scotland and,for much of the game,

    Great performance

Congrats to tony Donnelly on your win( we still halfin’) naw?

It’s what ceased to exist that’s upset them!

    Wasn’t always thus.

It (BBC Scotland), defending itself following complaints about them using the term ‘new club’) said “A football club, once incorporated, is indistinguishable in Scots law from its corporate identity.

“If the club was separate it would need its own constitution, committee members, trustees, etc.

“Rangers Football Club does not have that because it is incorporated.”

He said he wanted one in before qualifiers stated, got Ntcham, and would then wait until late in the window to try to bring in another couple once the English market opened up. Injuries may have changed this but he has also said he doesn’t see the need for a third striker. A central defender may be required as a matter of urgency now though.

  6. Although, they could just have said to the complainer, “Yer club’s deid, mate, beat it!”

  7. Brendan said he wanted one in before the qualifiers and he got Ntcham. However that was based on a full squad being available. Lustig could play centre half if Gamboa gets up to speed and we are still walking a tightrope with Griff. So I think we may do business. Wee Paddy would be nice. If an offer is on the table for Armstrong I would take the money and reinvest it.

    Yorkbhoy,

That’s an interesting slant on the question.

Previously the argument would’ve been that the sensible business case was to secure the CL funds before spending but last years windfall means the cash is already available.

So, do we hold off recruiting targets in the hope of attracting a higher caliber of player once qualification is secured risking failure to qualify due to injuries/squad depletion. A real catch 22.

Personally, I think we should be recruiting now with a view to next years qualifiers such is the difference in prize money between EL/CL.

I see this strategy in the signing of Kouassi, Benyu, Ntcham, etc.

As for now, maybe a Kolo Toure type signing might be needed to push us over the line.

  9. Gary67 – what do you reckon our net spend is so far this window?

Also right now is the squad stronger or weaker than last season?

And what amount should we have to spend given how successful last season was (I am looking forward to seeing the accounts and in particular the bonuses the board grant themselves).

And finally blessed though Brendan is – it makes no sense whatsoever to wait until the end of the transfer window when you season defining games are in the middle of it.

No Sense unless of course its just about saving money (and having no ambition)

  10. Cathedral View

I agree with your point that we should be buying this window for next year’s qualifications.

It does seem that Brendan wants a smaller better quality squad and I think most of us would be happy with that.

Would we be happy to wait till the last day of the transfer window to secure Paddy?

  11. NEGANON2 on 3RD AUGUST 2017 10:09 AM

Like you, I have no idea what net spend is. To be honest I don’t care, I tend to look at ability rather than price tag.

When everyone is fit, probably the same but slightly weaker due to injuries.

Again, like you, no idea what our budget is or what it should be.

I’ll go with Brendan’s transfer plan than rather than yours.

The transfer window closes in four weeks, plenty of time for Brendan to get who he wants.

Every season’s CL qualifiers will be a bit of a lottery for us due to the games being played in pre season, and in a lot of cases against teams who are already well into their domestic season. The two ways of minimising this disadvantage is do our transfer business in January (less quality available) or work to change the Scottish footballing calendar, summer league (my preference) or and earlier start to league (mid June) with earlier finish (April)

Good luck to Ryan Christie tonight, hope he can get a nice we run in Europe.

Well done to wee Jamsie last night great finish, hard to pick a motm but I think our hunskelper Jozo just about shaded it.

Now for the Edinburgh huns and their patsy owner on Flag day.

Who are we booing this time????????? ;-(

  13. NEGANON2 on 3RD AUGUST 2017 10:09 AM

Also right now is the squad stronger or weaker than last season?

Stronger in terms if players we own – Hayes is better than gms, and we’ve added ntcham

  14. I posted last night would Moult do a job for us in the SPL and maybe develop into a better striker, thoughts anyone, no shouting please, its just an idea the guy can score goals here, just spoke to a Mwell fan he says he is mobile good finisher good work rate decent pace. We do need cover in the striker position

  15. Neganon2

You clearly do not understand recruitment.

A fantastic result and performance last night

  16. And benyu

In terms of the squad that set new records with their results last season we lost paddy Roberts, there’s no way we’ll sign someone who’ll be an instant improvement on him.

So what you’re suggesting is that by the beginning of august we need to find someone better than paddy Roberts or else we won’t have improved on a squad that went unbeaten domestically last season.

  17. Just Great last night. Perfect performance with probably only 2 players not quite up to their best.

Great to be starting the domestic season on such a high.

Scope to invest in players should the right opportunity emerge …..

A system and squad which clearly works and will be too good for anyone domestically

A structure within the club which works and has 53000 season ticket holders and 4000 other lucky folk eagerly looking forward to Flag Day…. Even the old perma malcontents who were there when Fergus and Brian Quinn were booed will probably not be there as I fancy they might be boycotting Celtic’s success.

The other lot over the city have only one hope and that is that we self destruct. It wont happen !

It seems that a small group of ‘action orientated’ supporters ( as opposed to folk who sit on blogs and moan all day long ), no doubt with the clubs blessing, are even playing a great long term game on the old title stripping question rather than grandstanding our position to all and sundry via unnecessary statements.

All the other lot have is a 6th star that they are seeking to put on a shirt for a 3 game pre season friendly unbeaten run ! Fantasy land over Govan way with crazy governance of a crazy set up…..but they know how to craft an utterly meaningless statement to appease their rabble following…..

Mind you I am sure today we will have the ‘victims’ back on demanding statements from our board as to just why it is so good to be Celtic right now …..

The quality is there to get through the qualifiers. The problem is the unpredictability of injuries.

There is an element of gamble in whatever you decide to do.

Buy early or wait until qualification when the type of player who will actually improve you wants to join and the money is there?

I can see the temptation to wait.

I just don’t understand how there is not one striker in the ‘development’ squad considered suitable to even take up a place on the bench.

Supplementing the first team at times of real need should be a requirement of the development squad.

Begs the question how much developing do these lads need and what is the timescale?

KT has shown if you’re good enough, you’re old enough.

Polish people, I’m not being disrespectful to you.

What I wouldn’t like to see happening is, for our media to try to make an issue of our, slogan, ‘tomorrow belongs to us’, as being twisted by our media. The media would have a field day, which would not be nice.

  29. Well done the hoops last night. I thought it would be tight with Celts winning by the odd goal. Griif coming on 2nd half changed our style and we were by far the best team especially after the goal.

We shouldn’t be in this position for the next qualifier and I think signing Patrick Roberts as cover for the striker role is essential. If we wait until the end of the transfer window it means we ain’t learning lessons from this tie we’ve just come through.

Celtic haven’t invested (again) and that’s why we are walking a tightrope again.

£5.8m on two players? The manager saying he wants to wait until late in the window when the English market opens up and more players become available?

And have told City,if Paddy becomes available,we want him back.

  31. A month or so ago I was pretty dismissive of the idea that we could scrape into pot 3 if we qualify. It doesn’t look so improbable now. We currently sit as the projected top seed in pot 4, which means we need 1 of Sevilla, Napoli, Olympiakos or Liverpool to drop out to move up. They can’t play each other, Olympiakos are obviously seeded with us in the champions route, but the other 3 could face a team from France, Germany or Turkey. Just gives us a little bit of interest in the other ties and something to keep your eye on.
