Russia, Ukraine clubs called to Joint Championship meeting

972

A group of Russian and Ukrainian clubs hoping to form a joint championship have formed an organising committee and have invited top flight clubs in both countries to a meeting in Moscow on 18th of February to formalise arrangements.

The invitation letter states, “The main goal of our organization is the development of club, national and European football”

“In order to bring football to a new level, we propose to combine multiple national championships in one tournament.  Initially Ukraine and Russia will be involved but in order to develop the strength of our game, the league could be extended to all former-Soviet countries.

“We are convinced that this new championship will be a model for other territories; this integration process is the future of football.

“This initiative will create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising – just some of the benefits of unification.

“All of this will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams, who will gain from players working in a higher standard of league.  This is perhaps a unique case in sport where all participants are able to win.

Soviet Sport spoke to several Russian teams who confirmed they will attend.  Sergei Palkin, the chief executive of Shakhtar Donetsk, was cautious, suggesting Ukrainian clubs and the Federation need to act with unity, “I hope this meeting takes place but only after Ukrainian clubs have chosen a common position.

“Then we can decide who should attend.  The Football Federation of Ukraine need to be active, they can unite clubs and deal with the proposal appropriately.”

Note their points:

“Main goal… development of club, national and European football”.

“Bring football to a new level”.

“Develop the strength of our game”.

“This integration process is the future of football”.

“This will allow individual clubs to benefit as well as national teams”.

“Create healthy competition, increase entertainment game and increasing revenues from television broadcasts and advertising”.

Amid all the talk about reorganising our game has anyone had the clarity of vision to articulate the above aspirations?  Having lived with threats from “the big five” leagues for long enough other demographically-challenged countries are putting plans in place to allow their clubs a sporting chance.  It will soon be “the big six” and thereafter, who knows?

Why on earth are we worried about the number of lower divisions we have?  Regionalise or wither on the vine – and do your best to ignore any muppet who suggests taking legal action because he got his sums wrong.  The only change worth having will be consensual and will benefit all in our game.

‘I see Jabba’ s statement noted ‘ Rangers Football Club’ can meet any legitimate debts.

Thought it was the company responsible for debts ?’

    ########

    What the statement says is

‘Rangers Football Club is capable of meeting any debts presented legitimately and we would like to stress to our supporters there is no threat to the Club whatsoever.’

    Which suggests

    1. It’s the Club, not the holding company, that’s liable for the debts

    and

    2. That if the Club can’t pay the debts, the Club is at threat.

Doubtless the MSM will seek clarification on these points from Jabba.

And if they are havering over whether to do so they might want to check out their circulation figures and wonder why they continue to fall.

Green was keen to stress that Sheffield United were a club on the up: “We’ve got a very solid business here with perhaps the best land bank in British football – if we exclude Chelsea (Village PLC) and take out the London values. We’ve got a club with massive upside in all its revenue streams and we see there is enormous growth.”

However, this optimism was short-lived: Green faced criticism from fans early on when a group of Sheffield United fans called on the Department of Trade and Industry to investigate the stock market flotation of the club. The group, led by Barrie Cottingham, then chief executive of SIG Insulation, argued that “documents sent to United’s shareholders at the time of the float were inaccurate and misled some shareholders as to the value of their shares”. According to reports at the time, it was clear that Sheffield United and Green in no way accepted the claim that the documents were incorrect.

Nine bean rows will I have there, a hive for the honey bee,

And live alone in the bee loud glade.

And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow,

    Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings;

There midnight’s all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow,

As long as you have graduates at the top of the tree attempting to run the NHS as a business this was always going to be the case, and they will be looked after by their alumni now operating in government. We are now reaping the benefits of me me me attitude that was instilled into the youth of the late 70s and early 80s. Unfortunately the cronyism long associated with freemasonry in this country now appears to have been overtaken by where and when you happened to study for your degree.

Went out for a pint last night and bumped into a boy I hadn’t saw for about 10 years. He was sitting in company with an old fella and they asked me to join them. In the course of the conversation it emerged the old boy used to work with a certain Legless Loon.

He had quite a few stories to tell about the Loon – none of which are suitable for publication here. But he did say Legless arrived at his paper with a reputation as a Champions League ass-kisser – and that was as high as his standing would ever get among his new work colleagues. Turns out he’s a total clipe. Telling the boss what people were saying behind his back – a real snide operator.

I work with a Sheffield United fan. When Chuckles was sniffing around the rotten corpse at Ibrox I was told about his dealings with the Blades.

To this day his status is lower than dog sh!t in the red half of Sheffield. So I was delighted when Chuckles started to lead the Zombie Nation toward oblivion.

  21. Paul interesting as the aims of the Russian and Ukranian football authorities are, there is one point which renders most of this meaningless: “Bring football to a new level”.

I’ll tell you up front I’m an engineer, and measurments are very important to me. This leads to my huge problem with these so called football levels.

What does “level” mean in a footballing context exactly?

We have footballing divisions, we have football rankings, professional, amatuer, semi-professional, regional – all kinds of well defined categories of football which actually mean something.

We can also measure succes at each level for teams participating in these divisions. We can rank teams statistically according to this

Levels say nothing? Barca – on another level from Chelsea? Who was more successful last year?

Until these “levels” have names and you can measure when a team, coach, manager or player has moved up from one level to another, has made it to the very top level or when you can determine if they are sliding down the levels; then this term is in fact one of the major tools for the lazy journalist. It is meaningless and substituted into the vocabulary of those reporting in the media, when in fact they do not know how good (or bad something actually is) they only know it ought to be better or could be worse, but they don’t know how or why.

Sadly this term has managed to get to the footballing authorities in Eastern Europe, I’m sure it originated furher west. I’ve even heard polititions talk of “levels” in relation to their own sphere of influence.

The term annoys, and may even be a symptom of the dumbing down in news in general. I mean it is a substitute for actually explaining what something is, and where it ought to be. Without having any real knowledge of where anything is or even being able to recognise when you get to where you say you want to be.

I’d say that the without properly deciding on measureable aims, then there is no way of ever knowing if the actions taken have been successful.

I know that the MSM don’t like teams to say things like “we are aiming to make 3 world cup semi-finals in the next 20 years”, or maybe they do bacuse it gives them plantly to discuss (arrogance, probability etc.) but to say “we will be playing at another level”, who cares! That is complete tosh and meaningless.

I also hate this term because it is used so often on the TV and radio whan I listen and watch football related items. It is the reason people like Billy Dodds (another term I don’t like using often) is able to talk complete nonsence hour after hour, he can never be wrong, he’s never actually right either. Luckily for these people nobody knows that, bacause the definition of success when measure in terms of footballing LEVELS is complete bunkum.

    Rant over.

Turning it down a level now
