Scale of Euro achievement underlined

813

Last night my brother reminded me of a comment he made after the 0-0 against Benfica on match day one of the Champions League, “I hope we’re not sitting with one point after five games”.  Expectations can be as high as you like, but reality based on experience at that stage suggested Celtic would struggle to have more than a single point at this stage of the tournament.

A solitary point away from home in our Champions League history would lead the harsh realists to expect our trips to Lisbon, Barcelona and Moscow would be fruitless, leaving the enormous matter of tackling Barcelona at Celtic Park.

Two of those away games resulted in defeat, and we were behind in Moscow before one of the most significant fight-backs in modern Celtic history.  It’s difficult to find perspective for the win over Barcelona.  Suffice to say, they won 0-2 in Lisbon and 0-3 in Moscow.  Celtic’s 2-1 remains the most astonishing result of this season’s Champions League.

Manchester City’s failure to qualify for the knock out stage, with their seemingly limitless budget, tells the story of how difficult this tournament is.  England’s other mega-wealthy club, reigning European champions Chelsea, sacked their manager this week as the expectation they are likely to be eliminated at this stage dawned.

Beating Spartak and qualifying for the knockout stage will be suitable reward for a remarkable team.

The very first CQN Annual is NOW in stock and shipping order yours here! P.S. it’s great.

In case you missed the story, check out the Celtic Trust’s ‘Stand up for the Green Brigade‘ call on the 12th minute on Saturday. Full details on the Trust’s site.

  1. Before every game Benfica set free a magnificent Eagle which leaves its handler’s armlet in the Centre circle, flies just above the heads in a circle over the top tier of spectators and does the same on each tier below, eventually coming back to its trainer’s arm in the middle of the pitch.

Benfica are of course known as the Águias (Eagles) !

A few years back when me and a couple of chinas were out there for a CL game versus the mighty Hoops, the ritual was conducted as normal. In front of us stood three wee street wise neds frae Dennistoun and a few Sporting Lisbon fans who had come along to support Celtic. They however were also enthralled as on this night the eagle did not return to its owner, but instead landed on the Benfica Crest in the Centre circle and in a haughty display of arrogance, screamed and raised its head in contempt towards us, the Celtic Support.

The Sporting Lisbon fans, also taken aback by the spectacle, turned to the lads frae Dennistoun and asked ‘Do you have anything like this in Celtic Park’.

Without a break for thought one of the east end blokes said “Aye we’ve got a guy who dresses up as a feckin dug!”

Cue hysterical laughter and burst bladders all across Estadio De Luz! The eagle was not amused!! :-)

there is no war, a tiny minority are expressing their dissent about the action the Green Brigade have been driven to thats all, they are allowed to do that surely

  3. Nice, rational mild mannered post from ‘Bobby Bear’, on a Sevconians blog…….

Believe it or not, he is discussing who was responsible for ranger demise.

The Catholic church at the bottom of this. Their cunning plan to Romanise Scotland is set in the sectarian catholic school system. Every Romanist is brainwashed to hate Rangers, as Rangers represents the Ulster Scots Protestants, a constant enemy of the Vatican. The Ulster/Scots, who represent, truth, democracy and freedom, the very ideals the Roman Catholic church tries to destroy throughout the world.

Never mind guys – press conference day tomorrow. We can look forward to Sally spouting mega-guff about agendas, punishments, enemies, witch hunts, blah blah blah – all set up with lots of spoon-fed questions from the compliant MSM. Should be about as much fun as a paper cut…….

Or maybe he’ll be too busy preparing for the big match v Elgin?

I respect Auldheid immensely for his efforts regarding Celtic but I disagree Strongly about certain comments he has made, that, in my opinion, totally undermined Christianity.

Apart from that he is kosher!!! ;))

    TET,

if I remember correctly you told us they wouldnt be liquidated

  8. TET

While I share many of your assertions I would have to sat liquidation and Division 3 are not nothing self made or otherwise.

Thanks to supporters of all clubs no gerry-mandering was allowed and no further gerrymandering will be.

    Thank goodness for small mercies,

No mi amigo. I told you they would never die, a slight difference.

    Anyways, they are NOT dead.

Who are playing at the bigotdome ? who are singing their vile songs, who are still cheating and lieing….etc. etc.

You know as well as anyone they should be gone, cast to the sewer, where are they, proping up the leagues, but still their power base is intact, no long before they are back, you know it, I know it.

I am nearing giving up all together, the game in scotland is as much of a sham as there ever was.

I will tell you what…if they strip titles from them, I will apologise to the blog, I will never ever doubt the integrity of the game in scotland again, I will buy a season book and give it to someone in scotland who deserves to go to the games.

I will also buy Celtic TV, even tho it’s crap, I will never ever doubt the powers who be again, I will never ever again infer that the masonic cabal have any influence in scotland again….etc.etc.

I doubt I will be doing any of the above….I hope I am wrong, honestly.

More importantly, Do you stand by it?

    TET,

they are dead, anything else is all in your head, we knew they would try and revive the corpse and by the looks of things they will have to do it again soon.

But from what I remember you told us they would not be allowed to die, they are dodo, if you want to believe the meeja and the rantings of moonhowlers thats your perogative, but please dont expect me to lend any creedence to your nightmare :o)

I’m happy to remind any of them who claim to be the same, Div 3 and nonqualification for europe testifies to their demise. :o)

  15. Panarama special just started, Mark Daly and the topic is Who’s “watching the Detectives” …… Hillsborough etc. I wonder if he’ll bring up the 3/4yr intimidation of our Green Brigaders.

  16. TET

I think there are forces doing their best to keep them alive.

The FTT decision is an indication of that. If it is replicated by Nimmo the gemmes a bogey.

However the fact that they are where they are and the Nimmo enquiry is happening at all is an indication that they are not having it their own way.

The calculation by HMRC will be what is the cost to the public purse not to appeal versus giving the cabal a helping hand.

  17. Canamalar

    Splitting hairs mi amigo.

I did say they wouldn’t be allowed to die, correct….ok, you tell me who are playing out of the bigotdome, who still control scottish football ?????

In theory, they have been blended, but in reality, you tell that to the scottish public, you tell that to the scottish msm, you tell that to the wee scottish towns who are getting ransacked every other week.

You would be one of the smartest mhan I have met in manys a year, and I know, you know that I am right.

  18. Auldheid

Do you think that not to appeal would hinder the FPP and may allow clubs in the UK to continue to spend beyond their means and thereby avoid tax and NI. Would HMRC be seen as a soft touch for football clubs?

  19. Auldheid,

My older sister was very lucky to survive just being born, she went through countless operations just to stay alive, I would not be surprised to hear that you have came through something similar.

She has spent her whole life helping others, especially since her Fiance left her, it emboldened her to help others. That was well over 20 years ago.

She is a fantastic wee lady and has been frightened by bullies on pro life marches, Aidan was taller than her over a year ago (10 years old).

She is now looking into these new Spiritualities constantly and looking for man made inspiration. She is lonely, that is all.

I won’t pinpoint the comments but the Author is Neale Donald Walsch.

There are judgements, at the end of the day, for everything we have done.

  20. Auldheid

You are also one of the smartest mhen I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I don’t want to get into any argument, but I honestly think you have more faith in the justice system than I do.

You have seen the justiice that has been dished out to them…or have you, I have seen nothing, they have corrupted the game, they have cheated and stolen from the game, they have the powers in their pockets…..

Where has justiced been served ???

  21. kikinthenakas

I think that the ambiguity surrounding when is a loan not a payment absolutely must be clarified or else, even if changes to legislation meant tax avoidance using ebts cannot happen again, calling anything a loan would make it a payment so designated tax avoidable.

To be different from a normal payment a loan must have certain characteristics that make it so and those charcteristics need definition . To just call any payment a loan without definition defies belief and I cannot see HMRC not being alarmed by this development.

As regards FFP the best signs are that owners themselves are alarmed that the money to flow into the EPL from new TV deals will end up in players pockets rather than enable clubs to operate sustainably and are talking about FFP style rules for the EPL itself.

Man City and possibly Chelsea going out of the CL will be concentrating the minds of two of the worst offending clubs.

    TET<

I know what you are saying, but I refuse to lend them any credence and I'm thoroughly enjoying their response, I expect it will take a while for reality to take hold, even with the msm peddling their lies.

I'm hoping they are reanimated again before the Nimo inquiery, I do expect a continued propaganda war on the spl to drop the case, but I think enough of the clubs who refused to buckle under the pressure to allow the newco in, will remain resolute.

  23. THE EXILED TIM

I was betting on the cost to the public purse of protecting them being so much that they could not get favour but now after the FTT I am less certain.

My belief is not based on justice but the cost of avoiding it.

  24. Auldheid

    Thanks.

I am still trying to get my head round the judgement having read it twice, it is devastating for Rangers but the crux seemed to me was that because it was called a loan, that was it. Dr Poon gave the reasons why she believed this was not the case citing evidence from participants in the scheme, amongst others!

What is your opinion on HMRC taking this further to the UTT? For me it seems a no brainer for them. What’s your thoughts? Paul McConville yesterday thought it unlikely, although I noticed he has changed his stance slightly today. I spoke to a tax specialist today and he is convinced it would be folly for HMRC to step away, tho he did mention what he called “special circumstances” may prevent this.

TET, sorry to bug you with the mundane. Do you have any advice on internet providers and cost in spain? I got some quotes from HDA but seemed much more expensive than what I pay here in the wilds of Angus.

Golf booked yesterday for 28th, 29th and 30th…………………..Take your pick and let me know. I’ve provisionally said three ball for 28th but you’re welcome to come any time.

  26. canmhan

Aye, and I pray the other clubs will prevail as well.

I;m sure behind the battle front our club are doing their bit, I would hope so anyways.

Comehere, you and countless millions have been cheated over the years by paying your money to watch a game of football, you paid your money in good faith, little did you know, apart from the cheats with the whistles that you were getting robbed out of your money, had you know then what you know now, would you have gone on and paid you hard earned money ?

We are still getting scammed, they are still feeding us with lies.

It seems the bampots have lost the podium, the msm have the megaphone these days.

Me, I am still awaiting the nuclear thing that is going to hit…honestly never expected it, and posted as such, too many looking to further their persona.

Just like you, I made a twat of myself with my prediction that we would have vacated scotland in the coming seasons, I fear my source has lost even more money, but still hopefull.

You didn’t make a twat with my prediction obviously :>)

I hope you’re right pal, as they will be even more insufferable if the stolen trophies are retained along with their other stolen goods.

    Boooooooooo ya byooooooty

    HAW!!!

  28. Petec

What is a judgement but an exercise in making one thing good and another evil?

Are we not warned through scripture starting at Genesis (the forbidden fruit metaphor)not to make such judgements?

That is because God is the only judge who knows us better than we know ourselves because he is not restricted to a point in time judgement as we are. He sees us all in one instant, as the developing and developed spirit that life produces..

Why such a being would want to judge us, his own creation as lacking anything to a degree he would condemn us for eternity does not sit with my experience. Forgiveness is Christ’s gift to judging humans from God, it is but a request to put judgement aside.

There will be a last judgement and I think that will be when we see ourselves and each other through God’s loving eyes and realise that when we first bit the apple there was nothing wrong with what we saw or any need to hide in fear of God. It was the fear of God that creates the idea of separation.

With regard to your sister, fear not ,we all find our way home.

As regards Neale Donald Walsch my thinking comes from my experience that happens to be reflected in some of what he writes, not caused by it.
