Scott’s career planning

298

Don’t get me wrong, I’d be delighted to see a Scotland team full of Celtic players at the next Euros, but it’s not my priority and it’s not theirs either.

Scott Brown did the right thing retiring from international football. He did his part for his country during years of injury but if he is to extend his time as a Champions League player he had to manage his career carefully.

I understand that he came out of retirement for Gordon Strachan, but EBT McLeish…..  That’s a different question.

  1. Re Scott Brown.

After every Home game, I ask those around me: So, who gets you vote for second best player in our team today? EVERY Home game.

Fans of other Clubs who consider him a thug will be up in arms about his reaction to Cosgrove`s assault. I found it fantastic and would show it on the big screen at Celtic Park on Wednesday. Absolutely brilliant.

  2. My friends in Celtic,

I am truly confused. I mentioned last night that numerous posts on the Facing Book were almost complementing Mad Hun on getting the majority of decisions correct ( except the head injury )

This remains the case today and I have just read a blog stating the same. ( shared by a prominent CQNer)

This is totally contradictory to most posts on CQN. The confusion arises as many of the usual suspects are critical of the referee for every single game, without fail. Even before a ball is kicked if the truth be told.

Thus it makes it very difficult to know what is correct, especially when i was unable to view the game myself.

This is a consequence I knew would arise. Crying wolf and all that. And yes I am acutely aware of the general incompetency of our officials, but reading CQN it’s hard to gauge a true reflection.

HH to all. The journey continues.

PS : Well done SB, you have done your bit with 58 caps.

The refusal of Madden to stop the game following a head class he saw, renders his judgement useless in my eyes, if Kris had swallowed his tongue took a seizure or had a bleed how would this be ok, he should be demoted and never referee in the SPL again. He did not check on the player either.

Thomthethim: thanks for your comments. Just one thing, I guess a few on here would be smiling about your suggestion that I would get a reply if I announced I was about to become a granddad. Actually I think I would get more than just a reply.

WHY DID MADDEN NOT STOP PLAY WHEN OUR [LAYER LAY OUT COLD WITH A HEAD INJURY?? COS HES A HUN!!

  7. GREENPINATA

Not to stop the game for Ajer’s head injury was a really poor decision compounded by the fact that Aberdeen nearly scored as the play continued, game should have been stopped immediately.

Madden blew a few minutes later for a head injury to an Aberdeen player when there was no threat to goal so very inconsistent and I can imagine many thinking his bias to the Huns was in play for the first decision.

I was annoyed at the inconsistency and a blind man could have seen that Ajer was in trouble.

He should have booked Shay Logan for booting the ball against Broonie for sure and gave far to many niggly fouls to Aberdeen, particularly it seemed to Kenny McLean who was throwing himself all over the place.

Lustig’s red card was 100% correct as was the other fella’s who’s name escapes me.

Barring the Ajer incident I doubt we would be talking about him at all today.

Whenever I read that you ( or any others ) have written to Celtic, I always think , ” Well done, that man.” From now on, I will compliment those posters who try to make a difference by contacting those who can effect change. To all those who have already done so, well done.

Any suggestions as to how CQN could gain more clout in getting Celtic to tell us what they are doing re incidents such as Madden`s Play On decision?

I tried this before with questions on CQN for JPT but it fizzled out.

  9. What was mainly a hard fought turgid win turned out brilliant for us yesterday. Tierney’s brilliant finish (and great play by Dembele) and his reaction allied to Brown’s hilarious sketch, have lifted us more than another three goals would have. Brown’s antics were absolutely brilliant, ‘is that all you’ve got!?’. Two home games to further regroup.

  10. Watched it again last night, Madden runs past Ajer when he’s lying on the ground and didn’t even look. A disgusting Hun and a disgrace of a referee. I would like to see his stats when refereeing the Huns, I don’t recall them dropping points when he’s involved.

  11. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

I think in the head injury incident, Maddley was damned if he blew and damned if he didn’t.

Hand on heart, I would have hoped he did what he did if the incident was at the other end of the park.

The game would only proceed for a matter of seconds, given the position of the ball.

It would either have been a goal or a save or goal kick.

Those seconds were not vital and,as it turned out no damage was done because he played on.

It really was a difficult decision, which he got away with.

As for his string of free kicks in an advanced position. That’s another story.

I think Madden is a good ref, who allows his game management style interfere with clear refereeing decisions and that, for me, is worse than being an incompetent ref.

I also believe that game management is instilled into refs at their training courses.

  12. Re Madden.

After noticing that the Celtic players seem to get on quite well with him, I have looked more closely at his performances. Not stopping play for Ajer`s injury did seem really bad but he is certainly not the worst of the referees we have to endure. Beaton wins that award for me and Alan Muir (?) is not far behind.

    Cheerio for now,

    JJ

  13. Gents,

I do not condone Mad huns decision to play on when a player is down with a head injury. It could have had more severe consequences. However I also recall us scoring against Astana quite recently when 1 or 2 players were down with head injuries.

It is a split second decision that hindsight doesn’t always show favourably.

    HH.

  14. T3- i think it’s mandatory to stop the game for a head injury? He can’t say he never seen it.HH

  17. A professional referee (from AskTheRef.Com) writes: “The referee should have understood, prior to receiving their license that until otherwise determined head injuries are, indeed, serious. The logic here is that head trauma may be a brain injury that requires immediate evacuation to an area where medical services are available….It is, therefore, best to stop play and be certain rather than allow play to continue and guess wrong.”

And from TheFA.Com website: “If a head injury occurs, the medical team will enter the field to attend to the player. The referee will signal assent in a match situation….If there is any suspicion of the payer having sustained a concussion, the player must be removed from the field of play, and not allowed to return.”

  18. Maybe I’m in the minority here, but if I were Celtic, there is no way I’d let players play for Scotland, why should we. I mean, ask what Scotland has EVER done for us, yeah, you got it, SFA.

Ok, I get the pride the players must get when selected for Scotland, but still I think we should not allow our players play for them.

I am almost certain they don’t have a choice. I’m pretty sure Fifa/UEFA rules are set that if a player is called up he must be released otherwise both player and club can be sanctioned.

Having a good game on ‘Facebook’ ignores the facts not just the head injury, which as others have stated isn’t discretionary to stop play.

  24. Celtic fans could get their first sight of new signing Marvin Compper in a hooped shirt against Dundee on Wednesday night.

The 32-year-old German defender arrived at the Parkhead club from RB Leipzig during the transfer window for a reported fee of £1m but picked up a calf injury training in Dubai.

However, manager Brendan Rodgers revealed Compper has a chance to be involved against the Taysiders, along with on-loan winger Patrick Roberts, fit again after recovering from a hamstring problem which has kept him out since November.

Kristoffer Ajer will be assessed after picking up a head knock after clashing with fellow defender Jozo Simunovic in the 2-0 win over Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Sunday which took the Hoops nine points clear of Rangers.

Rodgers said: “Patrick should be available for the squad, that was our idea to work him back for the Dundee game.

“So he played for the development team end of last week.

“He has been working very hard and we will assess Marvin Compper as well, so there is a possibility that Marvin could be involved as well.

“We need to assess Kristoffer over the next 24 hours on that one because his eye was fully closed.

“He took a real bad knock on his head and on his shin but he has had that patched up.

“It will just be the eye. We will see how that responds over next 24 hours.”

All covered in my original post which was in answer to GREENPINTA asking the question, the head injury issue was by far the worst of the decisions in my book, the rest we have come to expect from Madden, who like Beaton, McLean and Muir all are Huns.

    Hot smoked

Madden, Beaton or Muir. That’s like asking someone about to die would you rather be boiled, fried or toasted to death. A Huns a hun for all that.

With regard to his decision to play on after Ajers head injury. The game should have been stopped but because there was a chance Aberdeen might score, it wasn’t. It was in keeping with his overall performance yesterday. The slightest brush against an Aberdeen player resulted in them dropping like they had been felled by a sniper in the stand with a resultant free kick allowing them to pump high balls into our box which was the only way they were going to score. Mc Lean was diving about the place after he got a free kick emerging from a tussle against Simunovic in which Simunovic clearly won the ball. Seriously anyone who thinks that we are not reffed differently and to our detriment has clearly not been paying attention.

Now is the time to highlight this btw, after a victory. If we had have been “Beaton” it would be perceived as sour grapes.
