Scouting and international breaks

276

Not all managers regard it as necessary to personally watch a player before signing him. Some are satisfied to trust their scouts, stats and video evidence.

That’s through necessity, though.  What chance of you of watching a late addition to your wanted list in the dying weeks of a window?  They would all prefer to see the player in person.

With two games a week, that is often impossible. This issue lead Martin O’Neill and Gordon Strachan to over rely on players they came up against in the SPL.

International breaks are, therefore, an oasis of opportunity.  This is when a manager can travel half the globe watching football, assessing multiple targets.

Ange Postecoglou now has free midweeks but he has used the February and March breaks to get ahead of the curve. Let’s hope wisely.

Your only exposing how to much info is frying your head.

No need to grasp anything other than post bout Celtic as you are diarrhoea on tap and a confused mess on most topics, tell Michael o and Ed #anka too.

First of all she, herself is not being asked about her gender. That is not in question

She is talking as always about law,and how its applied in some cases,if you watch the full 5 days(I don’t advise)instead of relying on some terse right wing cut and paste edit you will get the full case and context of her answer.

Ps I was watching on Congress TV.very boring equiv of parliament channel.

  2. Celtic ladies beat Hibs WFC on Sunday. Seemingly a great day out with a decent crowd and bright sunshine.

Anyone in the street can answer what qualifies a person to play for our Ladies team. It’s not phobia, it’s not Brexit, it’s not racism blah, blah.

    It’s good old common sense.

Pity our cowardly elected representatives cannot answer ” What is a female “?

Abada played full game for Israel U21s,Juranovic didn’t play for Croatia, O’ Riley playing at 7pm for Denmark U21s🤞

    “It’s good old common sense.”

It’s much less common than you think.

Most people, using the phrase, take it to mean “the stuff that I think and believe” and have no standard or mechanism for evaluating it.

What do you think of common sense when you hear someone articulating a statement that you disagree with but also claims it is “common sense”.

As a phrase it is near useless. At best, it means majority opinion but the majority opinion in the developed world may be totally at odds with the majority opinion in a hippie commune or in an Islamic state or a religious commune or in a Soviet state.

Judge Jackson gave a very fine answer to a dumb question

  5. beep…beep…beep

Carl Starfelt on the bench for the Swedes. Sitting next to Ibrahimovic….

    Hun Helander on bench too….

  6. Anyway given a clean bill of health, I reckon our team at the weekend will be:-

    Hart

    Juranovic CCV Starfelt Taylor

    Hatate McGregor Rogic

    Abada Giakoumakis Jota

Maeda and Forrest can add late energy. Bitton/ O’Riley can replace a tiring midfielder and Ralston or Bitton or Scales will be defensive cover.

We can be as confident as we like but there is a huge task ahead of us and we are not favourites. Ibrox has produced more heartbreaks than joy for visiting fans.

Sevco are 19/13 and we are 2/1 with the draw available at 12/5.

  7. !!Bada Bing!! on

Getting the idea,Ange has been pulling favours in re international games this week?.McGregor, O’Riley subs,Juranovic didn’t play,Bitton home 2 days ago…

Gp I usually like when you post of diversity.but a wee bit on wording

Yup,was good victory for Celtic woman, but I think your using our team to make a point.

What is a woman?- Celtic don’t decide that,it negates your point mate

It is becoming apparent, especially online, those most ignorant and vociferous of gender debaters are those most vociferous of Brexit and from that rump its racism core, personified here by wee sceppi tho I think he may just be confused as he is filling in one of jhb’s latest survey,🤣🤣

Don’t be blah blah’ing racism when it’s pointed out.

I assume that game will go to extra time, if it’s still level.

McGregor on the bench and Taylor not involved. Fingers crossed for a clean bill of health.

  10. SFTB,

Many thanks for your reply. What constitutes a female to play for the Celtic Ladies team is a simple process. Or any Ladies team for that matter.

Walk into any working class pub in Glasgow and you will get your answer.

I have learned not to dismiss common sense. It is one of the greatest mitigations out there, although it can never be put on any written risk assessment.

Definition: ” Sound judgement not based on specialised knowledge. ”

No need to muddy the waters, the simple answer is often the best.

I do think this issue will impact football sooner rather than later.

    Without doubt, interesting times ahead.

    Cheers and HH.

    Wrong again.

We took the IMF loans — on Treasury advice — but guess what we didn’t need them.

You are right DH cut spending for a year — and then he increased spending in the years afterward.

He stopped public spending growing for a year and then it was back to normal.

Monetarism — one club money supply dross / gymnastics — was not involved.

You are getting mixed up — the Chicago school is / was more than monetarism.

But as a Maggie lover / City of London / Big Bang bean counter you would know that.

You know it but are happy to play fast and loose on a fitba chat forum.

Economics — you must have studied it when you were learning to count beans.

For the record — Maggie cut and cut and cut and kept on cutting until the Birmingham Baby Hospital threatened to stop doing baby heart surgery because they were skint.

NL then was convinced to start funding some public services instead of just cutting tax for the rich.

But that was in 1985 after 6 years of savage cuts — totally different to the 1976 drive by.

Cumbie — you are barking up the wrong post code.

You took a punt on a subject you know nothing about and got it badly wrong — as always is the cry from the back of the room.

Consequently shape up or ship out.

Just what do you believe in and who do you vote for?

If the answer is that nobody is good enough for your vote — who would be surprised?

  13. Sceptical Citizen

Judge Jackson was specifically asked to define what “woman” means. How dumb a question is that? A woman can be many things from a multitude of them so there is no real definitive answer to that. That she didn’t answer, is to her credit.

This is my one and only post to you.

  14. GREENPINTA @ 6:14 & 7:02

Your posts are the essence of common senses. The gender issue will split the nation, sooner, or, later.

The answer you received was from someone with no stereoscopic vision, eating a 20lb marshmallow, whilst sitting on a fence with a blindfold and earplugs in place….all to virtue-signal & run away from understandable concern in the majority of the population – “controversy is only dreaded by the advocates of error”

I unashamedly put greater issues into a Celtic context. It’s not about using Celtic to make a point, it’s because this is a Celtic blog and if the issue is associated with or affects Celtic then it’s valid.

  24. Something to consider. Brandolini’s law, also known as the bullshit asymmetry principle, is an internet adage that emphasizes the difficulty of debunking false, facetious, or otherwise misleading information, especially in comparison to the difficulty of creating the misinformation in the first place. It states that “The amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude larger than is needed to produce it.”
