Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

You must have a heidie in there then!

Most teachers I know would prefer a day with the weans to the numbing boredom of in-service day meetings.

They’d certainly welcome being given the time to prepare as they see fit for the return of the kids rather than listen to another talking head.

And yes, I am treading very carefully this week!

She didn’t appreciate my comment about there always being a balance in life.

The despair of returning teachers countered by the joy of relieved parents, for example!

  12. Beatbhoy,

A heidie’s salary would be welcome, at least, if not the hours!

I’ve looked back and I realise I have completely misread your original post. In-service days are much better used as preparation time than ‘listen to another talking head’. I appreciated that pun in there, too!

  13. I think John Collins was accurate in what he said. Not sure it was wise to say it though.

Furthermore, he has unwittingly given all our league rivals additional motivation for when they meet us on the park.

  14. Morning all.

A lot brighter down here today. BBC says Scottish farmers are saying it is the worst summer in 30 years. I wouldn’t argue.

Radio Scotland is keeping the John Collins controversy going. No mention that McInnes said virtually the same thing a week or 2 before. The only problem they have is that it is the truth.

  15. Henke,

I’m all for them having motivation when they play us, as long as they play the game properly and not simply indulge in the agragarian tactics too many of them resort to.

It could also therefore allow our players to keep up their intensity

The only worry I would have is the lack of protection from the officials

  17. BT

    You never know.

There could be a high demand for ice cream and jelly by this time next year.

    Fingers and everything else crossed!

  18. My friends in Celtic,

Have already commented on what JC said. Very surprised at some of our fans complaining when we walk from the back of the bus to express the truth in language we can all understand and witness on a regular basis.

Maybe some of us will again be happy when we crawl to the back of the bus and take our rightful place.

We have lost our voice for far, far too long, Tonev proved that. If the truth hurts then whoever it pertains to ,can feelfree to join the continually offended.

We are Scotland’s premier club in every aspect, it is only logical we have a voice to match.

    Well done JC.

I agree that John Collins was right in what he said. The only wrong committed here is the glee with which it has been used against him-and Celtic-by a rabid pack of huns masquerading as journalists. Fans wi typewriters, and a poison pen.

No-one in Scotland needs any further motivation to up their game against us,it is ingrained at every club. Perversely,it may motivate us by the realisation of how much everyone wants us to fail.

    Right, preparation to be done.

  24. TBM

He was quite right to point out that Scotland’s teachers have the shortest pre-season in Europe!

  25. Could someone please put up what John Collins actually said

    And NOT

What the media say he said ?

    Just asking

    Oh Good morning CQN :-)

  26. JC’s words will be shoved in our faces every time we fail to win domestically, in fact, probably every time we concede a goal.

No doubt what he said was true, however let’s no be surprised at the strength and longevity of the backlash.

Maybe it will concentrate minds in our camp and make us more focussed and ruthless in games.

To be frank, we should be amassing 100 plus points AND goals every season….and let’s experiment in LC & SC.

    That might be rather difficult.

    Morning,bud.

  28. John Collins was right, however if we stumble to a half hearted one goal win at Killie, we wil have provided our detractors with more mud to sling at us.

Solution? Win by three or four, shoot their fox before the hunt gets under way. Purely a descriptive phrase, I despise all animal cruelty.

Fitness regime slowly getting back up to speed, thought it better to wait and see if there was any reaction to last nights run. Ten minutes warm up on cross trainer, 5k on treadmill in 29mins 30 secs, then some laboured stretching. This morning no recurrence of hip or hammy pain…try again tomorrow.

It is relevant to your post,

‘And why should we expect Scottish supporters to respect a Scottish team whose supporters travel the country singing the national anthem of a foreign country and waving it`s flag ,usually to the exclusion of the Scottish flag?’

Scotland was your point of reference, not Britain. Also,in football terms, there is no Britain, but the four nations of Scotland,England,Ireland, and Wales.

    Not in actual terms.

We`re dealing with nationality and patriotism here.

    Football is merely the theatre.
