Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

  1. I think if you asked most SPFL managers who they considered to be Celtic’s greatest threat, many would still say Commons.

I had a wee look on the site today and it will now be my bedtime reading.

You’ll find John Collins will do all the pre-match media stuff for cup games and stuff like airport interviews. All the other stuff is probably contractual and RD has to do it.

  4. I can see Kris rising to the challenge of fighting for a starting place, by having a great season.

He is very talented, experienced and looking forward to spending the remainder of his career with us.

    100% agree on KC.

    FYI…….

“You Don’t Miss Your Water” is a soul song and the debut single written and recorded by American singer William Bell. It was released by Stax Records in 1961. It is Bell’s signature song and best known recording.

A “penalty” claim against a Celtic player who had his back to his opponent, was falling backwards and was 3 feet away when the ball was kicked against his hand. The SPFL YouTube actually headlines that incident as “dividing opinion”. Absolutely no divided opinion amongst those with an open mind and no personal agenda. In no other game where the same incident attached to any other team would this nonsense have gone further than a very short half time comment before being quickly dismissed. This was not an incident that was missed y the officials either; it was just as quickly dismissed by them as nonsense at the time, yet the SPFL fuels the fire by their inflammatory headline which is actually at the expense of the officials as much as anyone else.

Then, Collinsgate is spoonfed to the masses in Sundays Scottish print media courtesy of the Scotsman, and gleefully recycled by every lazy churnalist. Their own duplicity in their dealings with John Collins is airbrushed out of things, as are the comments from the Aberdeen manager saying almost exactly the same thing. Simply put, there is no media mileage in a story that spuriously blackens the name and reputation of the Aberdeen manager. That would sell few copies in the Central belt…

The same media then can’t wait to talk to anyone they can find in Scottish Football in an attempt to generate more adverse comment about John Collins. That activity and those comments speak volumes about the pathetically parochial and intrinsically introverted nature of society in Scotland, not just about the cronyism within the SMSM and football. Backwater Scotland Inc actually demonstrates the scale of the mountain that Celtic have to climb when they travel beyond the Fantasy Island that is Scotland.

Astonished and disppointed of some of the negative comments about John Collins on here. Celtic’s assistant manager has been subjected to the same media distortion and manipulation that we have been banging on about for years. No one remotely disagrees with what he said and he’s not even the first to have said it this season, but he is the first Celtic employee to have done so. If the cardigan had said that during the EBT/Asterisk Years then the same media would have been nodding sagely and berating the rest of the teams in Scotland for letting down deidco.

Penalties that weren’t and being hounded because you spoke as if you have a right to do so –

An independent, impartial and ethical media….more like double standards, hypocrisy, bias and duplicity.

  7. When St Johnstone and then Aberdeen ‘crashed out’ of Europe before the schools went back there then followed an msm orgy of ‘woe is us’ about Scottish football. With of course the barely hidden subtext that the swift arrival of West of Scotland kkk FC would help up the ante and coefficient.

One week later JC (our ass manager, not God’s son) points out that playing aforementioned Scottish teams doesn’t best prepare us for Euro challenges.

Cue another msm orgy, this time of the tall poppy variety.

Evening all on CQN. Just watched the women’s footie highlights on BBC 2 HD. Some guid looking goals by some guid lookin Ghirls ! The Sunderland v Liverpool match, pool kit all white, Sunderland White with red stripes, could be deemed slight colour clash, certainly more than Celtic v Hibs / Hlbs v Celtic. Why do the spfl / sfa insist on change of strips for The Hoops v The Hi-Bees ? Totally no need for this in my humble opinion. The cynic in me says the authorities just detest the thought of too much Green & White. Ah well they got plenty with Charlie & Craigey ! ( ain’t karma a bitch ha ha). Think the last time I seen the full ‘battle of the greens’ was a Scottish cup clash at Parkhead around the centenary season, ah think it might have been live on tv (rare in these days back then). Ah think it might have been a draw. Ah would just love to see Hibernian v Celtic played in both clubs main home kit when Hibs get back to the premiership, and back it will be in their case cos they’re 140 years old, & not 3 years and 13 days like sevco!

  9. James McClean tweeted over a month ago “that Derry should be given it’s proper” name back.

We’ll be getting ‘ Collinsgate ‘ every day until the next opportunity to run with the incessant anti Celtic fest.

It doesn’t take much, I think you were correct yesterday that JC has been handed more air time by Celtic to take the SMSM pressure off Ronny Deila, ironic it’s him that gets the STV ( Sevco T V ) gig where they’re still running Collinsgate at 11.00pm more than 24 hours later.

As mentioned by others it’s very sad when Celtic fans fall for the propaganda and join in the name calling of Celtic men.

Derek McInnes and Paul Hartley are victims also, just caught up in the virulent new strain Celtic execration, born in 2012.

They could have centred media attention on Stuart McCall as did CQN magazine, who said John Collins was only being truthful.

It all sells more Celtic tickets IMHO because most Celtic fans see through it, or ignore it, and just support all the harder.

  11. If only there were some other Truth about Scottish football that we could get our management team to utter which would kill the JC story.

Is that the huns,Union Jack and Rule Britannia?

  14. We pound our keyboards, or if you have a dictation app, bump our gums, about the misportrayal of all things Celtic in the MSM.

Why would we be unable or unwilling to support our assistant manager when he says what he thinks about Scottish football or footballers? Or indeed anyone from the club.

Hell, we have all been saying it for years, without the hullabaloo that ensued.

Was he misquoted? Taken out of context?

Probably, but the irrefutable evidence was laid in front of us at Firhill on Sunday.

We fielded a team with a number of changes, some forced, some planned.

Despite that, Craig Gordon had his normal untroubled outing.

I posted last week sometime, at my age the memory is not so sharp, that the MSM is in a desperate race to the bottom and their football slant is to retain their demographic.

Now since many on here, and in the Celtic websphere in general, are quick to deny they read the Harry rags, they, the succulent lamb eaters, must capture the attention of the dead team’s mourners.

I’ve no doubt the copy writers have been told to appeal to Billy and ignore Tim.

So there is no need to get our twickers nisted with what they print.

Remember they need Billy to keep their jobs.

We can find our news and opinions, pro and con, on sites like CQN, or if you are intellectual and sophisticated from the many articulate Tims on the web.

And may God bless the work of the MSM. Without their blind compliance and acquiescence to Murray and his bent board, the Old Rangers may still be with us. And if they continue to slavishly carry the PR pieces from Ibrox, THE Rangers will have a short history, deo gratias.

  15. GG

I agree with all your points regarding the media, they are trying to sell papers and in this country, anti Celtic sells.

That being said, I still wished he had worded it better, you can’t blame Legia on anyone bar Celtic, that’s the truth. Seemed to be a bit of deflection, I wouldn’t be happy if I supported another SPFL side.

  16. SID on 11TH AUGUST 2015 3:31 AM

I wouldn’t assume that he was quoted accurately or in context.

Maybe the solution is to have all interviews from management, players and staff be done through Celtic channels, TV and digital media.

That way they will be reported accurately.

We should only allow the press into Celtic Park to meet our obligations to SPFL media contracts.

    No bannings. Just disdain.

And one other gripe re press conferences.

LOL – Why do I think that you are in either the SNP fascist camp, or, you follow the Ibrox philosophy? i.e. ban the free press – march on the BBC – ban the BBC – indoctrinate nine-year old school kids fron St Georges shut down dissent from all sources – manage all news.

Well let me tell you – IT WON’T WORK.

  18. No matter how much we disagree with certain areas of the media – we must NEVER be censorious, or, coercive – that is FASCISM – PURE AND SIMPLE.

After the country wakes from this ‘Stepford Wives’ period that the SNP are enjoying – perhaps we will get back to reasoned argument, firm policies and proposals, and away from the repetition of meaningless slogans and the shouting of ‘foodbanks’.

There you go again. Who mentioned food banks?

    FYI,

There has been rapid growth in the provision of foodbanks since hunger in the UK became a prominent issue with the financial crisis and the austerity that followed it from late 2010. As of January 2014 there were close to 1,000 UK food banks. The largest group co-ordinating UK foodbanks was The Trussell Trust, a Christian charity based in Salisbury. About 43% of the UK’s foodbanks were run by Trussell, about 20% by smaller church networks such as Besom and Basics, about 31% were independent, and about 4% were run by secular food bank networks such as Fare Share and Food Cycle.

In 2004, Trussell only ran two food banks. Before the financial crisis, food banks were “almost unheard of” in the UK.
