Scouts will have seen different aspects in Malmo and Glasgow

446

Malmo quickly followed up their best result of the season against Salzburg with a 2-1 win over top of the table Gothenburg.  They remain four points off the pace but whatever form issues they have had in recent months appear to be resolved.

Champions League football was a harsh experience for Malmo last season.  They qualified after beating Salzburg 3-0 in the play-off round, coincidentally the same score they beat the same opponents by in the last round.  While Salzburg went on to top Celtic’s Europa League group, Malmo lost home and away to Juventus and Atletico Madrid, winning their only points in a home win over Olympiakos.

I’m sure Celtic will have scouted yesterday’s game in Malmo and will have learned more about the home team than Malmo learned about Celtic during yesterday’s stroll in the park at Firhill.  We will have seen them at their best, they will have seen us scarcely breaking sweat.

Ronny will have an idea of the extent of the challenge ahead.  Malmo might not be a match for Juventus or Atletico but they know how to play European football.  We will all have an important job to do at Celtic Park next week.

  1. Tgm,

Well it’ll be easy for you to supply a quote then ;)

A wee looky online there brought up a cocky winger in a daily record story that isn’t all that cocky when you remove the shoite around the quotes

  2. McInness looking for any reason to be offended, I suppose it takes the heat off him and his team for exiting the Europa league early doors, the pot being stirred by the media, already this season we have controversial decisions over analysed and judged by the media gallery as favouring Celtic the booking incident of Craig Gordon and yesterday the media trying any which way they could to say Celtic got away with a penalty being awarded against them, all made up rubbish of course but when has that ever stopped them,I briefly heard someone say last night that Kilmarnock should change tactics for Boydy to give him more chances, I hope Kilmarnock do try to attack Celtic on Wednesday night it will suit Celtic perfectly

Quotes….or would you prefer a textual analysis?

Believe it or not…although why you would doubt me…ive no idea

  4. Captain Beefheart on

Malmo are entitled to be confident. They could have got Basel. Howeve we can also be reasonably confident.

They aren’t useless but they are mediocre. No better than Maribor. We were warned that that lot were good. They weren’t.

Let’s hope Derek isn’t reading CQN in his tanning shop. The treatment from CQN’s bruisers will have turned his face white.

    Oot.

  6. It’s early days in this year’s SPFL. but on evidence of first 2 games the gulf between Celtic and our opponents seems to have widened this year compared to last. However we make a big deal in European Competition if our opponents are further advanced in their season, the same rule should apply in domestic games. Because of our early European involvement we are further down the fitness road then most other Scottish teams. When they catch up, the present gulf might narrow a bit.

Yeah i did…..thank you for helping out…..and sorry for not saying so.

  8. James Mc Lean getting it tight from the crowd.

Commentator can’t help himself “james MC Lean from ….”dreaded L prefix to Derry.

Thank Christ I don’t pay for this s#i#te.

  9. Corkcelt,

I think it’s hard to say if the gulf has widened this early. Our first 3 opponents are all bottom 6.

I agree we are ahead in fitness but due to euro involvement I think now is the other clubs best chance of taking points of us.

They will get fitter but I feel we are still way behind our peak fitness too

I still can’t get my head around folk saying we are behind in fitness and sharpness.

The players had a few weeks off, a few weeks.

Say in the winter time, there is games called off for inclement weather, sometimes the players are without games for about the same time, and there is no talk of lack of fitness or sharpness.

They are top level athletes, or they should be.

    I reckon it’s a conveinent excuse :-)

  11. Happy with John Collins comments

Always liked Derek McInnes always fair in his assessment of games involving us, think he has been sold a pup by the media misreporting what JC said, same goes for Paul Hartley.

The SMSM always have it in for us..direct our ire at them and Scottish radio pundits by ignoring them, switching off the radio phone ins and not buying the rags.

Watched sky sports news this morning the Craig Gordon incident came up as a comparison to the Chelsea goalie..Dermot the ref said Collum was right to issue a yellow, no hullabaloo just the ref got it right.

You won’t hear about that in the SMSM.

Turn them off, don’t buy the rags.

    Tet,

I’m not 100% sure but I’m going out on a limb here and gonna say when games are called off players still train most days ;)

  13. Pfayr

    Nail on head.

Why do we insist on giving the media comments when they insist on contorting them to suit their agenda. Simple solution. Tell them to get tae……….

  14. Swat Hong West Brom Man City game……I’ve never seen 1 player so man marked…..he’s always got people around him…..

  15. GeordieM

Aye, and they should be training during their summer break as well.

I saw a prog here about the Barca and Real players, they have a fitness regime to adhere to when they are not playing, maybes Ronny should introduce one :-)

  16. I listened to a bit SSB earlier, and it was mentioned that McIness said the same thing as JC did the other week, not a peep from the anti Celtic meja.

PFAyr. Re McInnes, I take the opposite view.

    He’s a F*nny!

    ————————-

    Respectfully disagree. I like f*nnies – I don’t like McInnes…

  18. McInnes has every right to be offended and to give his opinion – no argument with that.

However what JC said was true and needed saying.

Unfortunately it is just for effect – there is not one damn thing that we can do about it.

When clubs in Scotland’s top-tier are recruiting from the flotsam and jetsam of the lowest leagues in England/Ireland/Wales, then we must realise that SPFL cannot be taken seriously.

We are SLEEPWALKING into oblivion – I’m sure JC has said such things to get a debate going – we must lead that debate and look after CELTIC FC.

Unless we can persuade our fans that the only way for us to survive as a credible club, is for then to turn up in as large numbers as possible, buy as many season books as possible – then we too will ‘wither on the vine’ within TEN years, and our players recruitment over the last ten seasons, although not perfect, will be all but a dream.

Everything MUST be geared to the league title and CL qualification EVERY YEAR – use the cup competitions as learning fodder for our young players – talk of trebles MUST be banished – they mean NOTHING, get us NOWHERE, and are merely VANITY and, “na na na na na na” shit used by the less cerebral in our ranks.

League titles and CL qualification EVERY YEAR is SANITY.

We don’t need forty Scottish Cup, League Cup stars on our jerseys.

When you are young and play football, you only get better by playing with the ‘big boys’, players and teams more accomplished than you – same applies to clubs.

Let our minds be CLEAR and FOCUSSED.

  19. Tet,

I’ve more chance of getting my bairn to do homework during the summer holidays. :)

Joking aside, I think they will have some sort of regime to try and follow. Fines for fat % and the likes.

Kc looked like he had been given free run of willy wonkas factory this time last year. He looks a bit trimmer this season imo.

  20. Bourne

Maybe James McLean should get a move to Scotland to escape the bigotry?

    ————————————————————————————————————

    LOL

Scotland is the epicentre of bigotry and sectarianism in Europe.

  21. Holidaying in sunny, warm Crete at the mo, instead of freezing in Jobos EK.

Token sticky in hotel yesterday walked out of tv bar as the 2nd goal went in and the half dozen Hoops cheered. You gotta laff.

Anyway Mrs Emeraldbee and meeself took a pre lunch walk today into a wee village called Prada and after the obligatory shopping ended up in a nice wee restaurant. Local guy asks where we are from and on hearing Glasgow (I know, but it is easier)

asks the obvious question. “Ah, big Giorgious, the Celtic!” he says.

That was it, sorted. Even ended up with a free ouzo to wash down the lunch. Turns out he is an Olympiakos fan and promises to contact me when/if we meet in Europe. The Celtic mythology continues.

BTW every time I see the sticky in the hotel he is sitting by himself nursing a pint. Mmmm.

I’m just back in, stuck the game on and tried to figure out who was on the receiving end of the booing.

    Scum, intolerant scum.

John Collins is a big headed prat.

    He just can’t help himself.

    What he said everybody knows.

    So why say it?

He can’t help having to show other people that he thinks that he is superior to them.

    Is he?,Aye right.

  24. Joe Filippis Haircut on

Well the transfer window moves on Chelsea look like they are going to get Stone but at Parkhead things are very quiet Stokes still on our books and the V.VD rumours continue. There are no rumours of anyone coming in so it looks like we are going with what we have it just concerns me that we are not converting our fine play into goals. H.H.

I went to school with a guy, nice guy it has to be said, but not the brightest in the class. Back in those days the teachers used to read out test results in class, in ascending order. This guy invariably got an early mention. Old school. Never really wondered what happened to him, then one day some years back, he appears out of nowhere, working as a “writer” in the Daily Record sports section, might even have been some kind of editor. A guy who never gave up his dreams? Or somebody who finally found somebody prepared to hire him?
