You know me. There was never any chance of me not renewing my season ticket. I’ve been there for the nine, I was there for Oldco’s nine, so hell would freeze over before I would miss next season. But even acknowledging that, I wanted to see what the deal was before signing up.
I renewed today. From September or October, some of us could be allowed back into Celtic Park, it will be later before the stadium is full. I know how important this season is. When I review our finances, every year I note the importance of season ticket sales in allowing Celtic to plan and keep the lights on.
Watching on TV is well short of the real thing, but I can afford the tickets, and the consumer value of this year’s proposition is not really an issue, I just wanted to know what it was before putting my card details in.
The economy has skewed in the last four months. While some have earned every overtime hour available and others have seen bank balances rise as they’ve spent practically nothing, others became unemployed or are facing that prospect. If you are a Celtic fan who has lost their income having supported the club through two, or even three, periods of Scottish football being dominated by nine-in-a-row runs, missing out on next season will be an added indignity. There will be many in this situation.
I know how important season ticket revenue is under normal circumstances. With the collapse of retail, hospitality, and other stadium income streams, that has never been truer. For those of us who can, we are here for 10, be it at home, distanced in a half-filled stadium, or celebrating with 60,000 friends.

People commenting on being “surprised” that some of our supporters are not renewing in such an important season smack of the same lack of moral compass Boris and his pals have displayed over the last three months. So much for a club like no other….

I can understand that those who have to give up their season ticket under the current circumstances feel incredibly hard done by – but the season ticket revenue is the only certainty for Celtic in the immediate term, everything else is either unknown or heavily dependent on external factors.
As some concession, I would suggest that those who choose to not renew be given the option to immediately register on the season ticket waiting list, with their continuous years of season ticket holding being treated as “years waiting” to allow them some priority in any future queue.

I Think some of the comments that our owners should just throw ??? millions of their
money at the club in situation is crass.
If i worked for a company struggling in crisis i would hope owner would throw any
millions at his workers/business
rather than at say a American ice hockey/football/soccer team

I posted yesterday that Championship teams in England will allow season ticket holders to stream both home and away games until the end of this season – and will allow non-season ticket holders to stream individual games for £10 each.
In saying that – there has been no announcement as to how Championship will handle next season – but I find it hard to believe that they will offer anything less.
Given that the EFL are dealing with the same broadcaster (SKY) – not sure why there should be a difference in what’s on offer either side of the border?
Is it the broadcaster who is imposing limitations, or are the Scottish clubs worried about season ticket take-up if streamed pay-per-view becomes a new option?

Sorry fella that is not true and I think people on here are capable of holding several differing views at once. There is clearly sympathy for people unable to pay for a book in these times AND a desire to maximise the revenue needed by Celtic to win the ten, highly leveraged on season books.
What’s the answer to crack both needs above and keep everyone happy?
Tim- FWIW,I think Sky will be delighted to take anyone’s money,I think club’s might see their ST being devalued, a balancing act,if guys can pay £7-8,to watch a game at CP,while I pay about £34 a home game, doesn’t bother me. Some revenue for the club,and guys get to watch the team,it is a temporary measure for a couple of months, we will all have to concede a bit here IMO.

I can’t speak on Paul’s behalf but having ‘virtually’ known him for years I’d say he’s got a decent moral compass and recognises that some fans fall on tough times and the ticket must go as a result of this. I don’t see people (i.e. those who can and will) rubbing others’ (those who’d like but can’t) nose in it but appreciate it’s heartbreaking for good folk who can’t stretch in these tough times, especially given what’s up for grabs.
I don’t the answer to squaring the demands on both side without exhausting the supply side of people ‘who can and will’….

I agree with you – many people would still gladly pay more for the experience of going to the game even if streaming was an alternative.
I think if the clubs have faith that a new financial model would work for them wrt season tickets and streaming then they would go for it – but it is understandable that they are scared to commit to anything too radical too quickly.
Maybe a season of watching and monitoring what goes on in England next year might be necessary to figure out what’s possible and how the numbers would add up.
When you think about it, for old codgers like us, the notion of selling 55000 season tickets is very new. When Celtic did their original 9-in-a-row, we were living in times when you could wake up on Saturday morning and decide if you fancied a visit to Parkhead or not.
Heysel, cheating huns and telly money radically changed the financial model in the 90’s – maybe something equally seismic is about to happen for the likes of Celtic to survive and thrive.
I haven’t read any comments on here disparaging others for not renewing, it’s a personal decision.
I do though believe it’s somewhat financially ignorant to expect or demand Celtic make up the short fall for those that can’t renew.
There are thousands of fans on a waiting list who deserve the opportunity to get their seat.
It’s easy to take the holier than thou approach about the perils of corporate greed while ignoring the fact it has been our financial strength that has brought us to the brink of the ten.

I’ve read only sympathy on here for those fellow Tims – and all in society – hit financially by this crisis.
And complaints on here in recent days have been based (imho justifiably to an extent) on Celtic’s handling of the ‘offer’ that a season ticket will include and its value for money or otherwise.
I feel I’ve been more of a disaffected critic than a happy clapper on here for some time, but on this occasion I have real sympathy for those running the business as they try to deal with the wtaf curve ball that is Covid to the industry.
The more so as our business model is so heavily predicated on us paying up front to ensure our participation on a mass public gathering every fortnight. Add in the fans’ clamour to retain stars and sign at least one other (FF) to maximise our chances of the 10. And finally into the mix will have come the Sky tv deal. Celtic will no doubt have been aware as early as possible. But It would still have been short notice in terms of financial planning for a multi £M business.

Thanks for your reply. I worked in the carpet industry once upon a time and there was a job called slaboy. In fact it was shown on t.v. as a play written by John Byrne. The factory it was set in was were I worked. Good idea about the season ticket and virtual season ticket.
Lennybhoy we met briefly at the day out for the late Stephen Houston. I won’t email you at the moment but I am interested in anything that allows the sharing of a ticket or access to a virtual ticket.

Motherwell have promised that the season book will give fans entry into a set amount of home games. If the SPFL 20/21 season doesn’t fulfill that amount they will make up the difference with cup games or 21/22 SPFL games.
On a different matter,and it’s regarding the bias of Sky Sports ,back I the day when it’s sports programme came on the screen,of all the ex players that retired,the sevco supporter who was at STV sports Andy Devlin took up the post at Sky,and low and behold the 2 front men presenting the show none other than Jim White Andy Gray 2 big bluenoses,has anything changed nope ,This morning watching the Football Show who is on it,Souness and Boyd,another 2 Bluenoses,and the Sevco Club and Supporters say all them in the Sports Media have it in for Sevco Football Club,really over the years the media are the darling boys of Sevco,talk about them being fair and balanced to other clubs ,pull

There are people with season tickets now struggling financially who have renewed year-on-year for a good period of time because they could afford it in times past. There are people without season tickets on the waiting list who for financial reasons in times past couldn’t afford an annual season ticket. Life, and circumstances, change, sometimes to your advantage, other times not. All are good Tims to a man. All equal in their love of the club.

Motherwell – 1,500 STs out of 13,677 capacity, £4m overall operating costs.
Celtic – 52,000 STs out of 60,000 capacity, £86.9m operating costs.
What a community club can do is not what I’d like a large, £100m+ business to replicate.

Most of the discussions on this blog with regards not taking up the vst option has centred on moral sentiment rather than financial issues. I have read a lot of thing such as, it’s no fair to charge same price, the big bad board and res.12 etc. to justify reasons why people should not purchase vst’s. Cool, each to their own, but I am happy to purchase because I want the club to be at it’s best, to challenge for honours and to keep or get the best players it can. That cost money.
I am not a happy Clapper as some would say, I support celtic. I am done with the sanctamonious brigade who want to talk all things celtic, want to enjoy the good that comes from celtic but raise their nose to folk like me and thousands of others.
If you cant afford to purchase a vst that is a different matter and perhaps we as a community could find a way to make sure we support our own, if your household has more than one vst and another is struggling reach out 👍
