Not one of you will be surprised at reports this morning that Celtic escaped punishment for “sectarian chanting” when the club and its fans were not, and never have been, accused of sectarian behaviour. Last month one Irish title suggested Celtic fans stood accused of racism before amending their online content to read sectarianism and eventually paying enough attention to zone in on “offensive chanting”. If they’re going to make things up, I really would prefer they accused us of something a bit more original in Scottish football, like genocide. Ironically it would be less offensive.
Celtic have been open to all since its inception and are supported by groups right across Scottish society in increasing numbers. It’s the other lot, you know, them, who brought sectarian practices into the game. From Neil McCallum, our first goal scorer, to Gary Hooper, our last, Celtic have never had this peculiar social deficiency. Never.
The SPL decision not to act against Celtic, after a Strathclyde Police match commander complained, was assured, as Celtic could demonstrate they had previously taken action “all reasonably practicable steps” to prevent what the league called “chanting in support of the IRA”. Both Neil Lennon and Peter Lawwell have spoken in unequivocal terms on this subject in recent weeks.
The league goes on to say, “Such behaviour is unacceptable and unwelcome at SPL matches.” All the league have done here is pitched the ball back into Celtic’s court to prevent a reoccurrence. I don’t fancy that job.

From BBC
Rangers winger Sone Aluko has been offered a two-match suspension by the Scottish Football Association for alleged simulation.
Dunfermline boss Jim McIntyre claimed Aluko dived to win a penalty for Rangers on Saturday.
Rangers have until 1500 GMT on Wednesday to respond to the SFA’s notice of complaint.
Should Rangers contest the ban, a Fast Track Tribunal will be convened to review the case on Thursday.
interesting us of words, ‘offered a 2 match suspension’
Canalamar- it’s a Sinead O’Connor cover version ;/)
Prince of course is Irish; and used to go to all the games with the Paisley Park #1 CSC.
Of course he’s not the tallest so he had to stand on a box in the Jungle to see the action.

‘We are a Scots/Irish club who many purists will believe should never ally ourselves with anything Brittania , and its hard not to agree.’
There’s so much wrong with that sentence that I don’t know where to begin, so I don’t think I’ll bother.
The only thing I’ll say is that moving the stadium isn’t an option. If we ever get to play in another league the rules will have to be changed.

“Amendments to the SPL Unacceptable Conduct Rules, expanding the definition of unacceptable conduct to include song/chants/behaviour referring to terrorist organisations;”
Referring to terrorist organisations?
“Up The IRA” and ‘Down with the IRA’ will both be deemed unacceptable, I suppose.

the board and associated bum barers will all rest happier now,
Bjmac,
it appears our discussion was a complete waste of time, the board have took the lead and have achieved exactly what they set out to achieve when they began the vilification of the green brigade, absolute disgrace, will not be setting foot inside Celtic park again till this board are gone, will do everything in my power to undermine them in their bare arsed appeasement and oppression of free speech. All in the name of justifying sectarian racists ffs.

Love, look at the twelve (!) of us, Rangers can hardly play…
How does this “offer” of a 2 match ban work?
If you decline the offer and go to the tribunal, the maximum you can get is a 2 match ban anyway.
I can’t see who would accept the “offer” – least of all cheating bar stewards.
Good statement from the Club today, i wish they would have came out in a stronger defence of the support after SC final.

No it wasn’t. You came from a position of saying was impossible to do, to accepting that it is possible.
re The verification of season book no. I’m sure someone with knowledge the Data Protection Act could advise if the data Celtic hold about me I’m entitled to instruct someone to access – potentially that could be a way round it. I don’t know – what I do know is there will be a way.
Far from making the conversation invalid, it does the opposite, it makes it even more pressing, that we decide, NOT JAG or any other outside agency. The Celtic fans decide. As I say the report I posted the link to makes it even more urgent, it doesn’t make it redundant.
You’ll be there on Saturday, surely.

Canamalar: you see that’s the difference – you say there is a lot of “may” and “might” in my post – there is one instance of each word and that is in the context of “we don’t know how the authorites will act” – which is obvious. I live in the real world, in this context, you clearly don’t. How am I “giving away free speech”, something I hold very dear? NO-ONE is suggesting that – I sing the songs in places its approriate and I don’t sing them in places where it’s not. The club have specifically asked us not to sing certain songs at Celtic Park as they may hurt the club. We don’t know for certain they will but there is a chance that will happen. Will not singing a song or two at the ground mean that song diminishes or dies. No. That is a certainty. Why potentially damage the club when there is nothing to be lost by not doing so?
It’s not just your house, it’s mine too. And 60830 other people’s. And don’t give me the line about “I paid my ticket I can sing what I like” – when the Huns come and buy their ticket does it make it their house? No.
Your final line – “we might upset someone in the future, is no way to protect todays support” – as many posters on many Celtic sites, indeed as our manager has said, these songs ARE upsetting people now – our support and our club.
