Sensational Celtic remains sound business plan

964

You know a transfer window approaches when practically every media outlet has a story on Celtic are set to lose an important player.  Transfer stories are one of the most reliable commercial ventures in business.  They require no effort to produce, or recopy, as most outlets appear to, do not need to lead anywhere, but income per word read brings in more advertising revenue than anything else the UK media.

The premise that Sir Alex Ferguson has shared his plans to sell and then buy with an external party is ridiculous.  The distraction this can cause to Celtic players is merely a by product.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? Get it here in time for Christmas!

Those who comment on our game do manage to contort themselves sometimes.  Sky TV convinced themselves Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin’s demonstrable angst at full time last night was in connection to his side’s disallowed goal.  A less animated Paul then explained his actions were frustration at only having three minutes added time.  If he wants to get more TV time he’d better follow the script – be angry at Celtic!

The moment Neil Lennon’s interview ended Sky cut across him to assure us Lassad’s disallowed goal was offside (which it was).  They acknowledged Keddie’s arm around the neck of Fraser Forster for the Arbroath ‘goal’ but were unable to confirm this was against the rules.

Football rules are very confusing, after all, but the rules on how the media make money out of Celtic remain the same.

We have not discussed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for a couple of days.  This single is going to position Celtic Charity and the 125 4 125 campaign in a prime spot across the nation.  You and I need to get involved THIS WEEK to raise the profile as high as possible ahead of the Christmas chart.

I would imagine there will be moves to sell or get a new loan pronto.

That’s the highest wage at the club and one of the highest in Scotland.

In Division 3 with no Euro cash or major TV money that is one huge drain. It’s worth 9 players for them.

    Hope nobody wants him.

    And your point is?

  5. This from today’s Evening Times:

“FRASER FORSTER today insisted Arbroath can have no complaints about the controversial decision to rule out an equaliser in their William Hill Scottish Cup replay against Celtic – as the match should never have gone ahead”

Of course FF made no such nonsensical connection, he simply stated two separate facts:

    1 He was fouled

2 The match shouldn’t have gone ahead.

    Ridiculous.

Some only see what they want to see. They were seething that Arbroath were denied a “goal”. Believe me that MIB last night would have gave a goal had there been any dubiety. The player clearly fouls Forster. I think he came out and admitted as much.

  8. Dorin Goian ?.

Saw him on a Serie B highlights program– having a flakey and being sent off for manhandling the Ref .

The Manager of Spezia called him a ” cretino ” on the tele .

Think he received a 4 match ban .

Think Spezia have terminated his on loan deal ..

Spezia are big on that going bankrupt and starting again thing . Many of their Directors were banned for ” sporting fraud “[ ie match fixing ] in 2011

  9. Reply from the MOD regarding the Remembrance Day fiasco at Ibrox.

“The General Officer Commanding Scotland has now had the opportunity to review the events that took place at Ibrox Park with the other Service heads in Scotland. They share your view that the format of the half time event and the conduct of those taking part in it was inappropriate for Remembrance Weekend, and will take steps to ensure that such events are conducted with appropriate solemnity in the future. They believe that the minute’s silence before the match was the correct way to mark the occasion and Army commenders will be directed to restrict future Remembrance events to this type of activity in the future. The focus of Remembrance activities must be on the fallen, not on those who are serving in the Srmed Forces today”

Note that Scunthorpe general manager David Beeby confirmed “We have received a payment, ….”. i.e. received, past tense, as in been paid, no delay, no chasing the club up for the money, as in honouring agreements. Wouldn’t it be great if all clubs treated others with the same respect?

Remember firstly that the guy in question had gone behind the goal to point out Celtic supporters to the police, with the obvious intention of arresting someone.

Yes a few songs were close to the bone but the guy himself was laughing at a few, in particular….

  16. I appreciate this is not directly related to Celtic but it is about the environment in which we are asked to compete.

It is my post on Paul McConvilles latest blog on Charles Green by ecojohn.

” You (ecojohn) raise a very very important point about Chico and that is that he has given those who do not support The Rangers no reason to trust him and even true blues are suspicious.

Untrustworthiness does not confine itself to what is said, it is inseparable from the actions of the speaker. So how on earth can the rest of Scottish football trust a club whose owner is seen as untrustworthy that he and his club will abide by the spirit and rules of the game where it does not suit their cause? This key issue seems to have got lost in the subsequent shenanagins after administration.

When Jim Traynor says other fans hate The Rangers he has the verb wrong, some might, but I venture that the vast majority do not TRUST them or the football authorities. Without that trust OUR game is a bogey and yet Jim Traynor who poured scorn on sporting integrity is now Head of The Rangers Communications. It defies belief..

It is for that reason I suggest that the SFA, The SPL and the SFL all sign up to a statement that makes sporting integrity and sporting merit a core value that will govern all their decisions and actions.

I would go further and say that it is the SFA’s job to ensure that whatever the leagues get up to in terms of their commercial contracts and business dealings/reconstruction the SFA ‘s purpose (what is it anyway?) is to ensure that sporting integrity and merit are observed, not violated and are paramount.

Before any reconstruction proposals are accepted by supporters at large (and this includes the The Rangers support who have been mutual victims, willing ones some will say in their case, of the SFA not putting a check on SDM’s behaviour ) the governing bodies must come out with proposals that satisfy Scottish football supporters that the SFA are a transparent and accountable organisation who will govern Scottish football honestly because the last thing that can be said of The Rangers under Charles Green is that they appear ready to behave in an honest manner.

I have written on this before at

http://celticunderground.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=856:in-whom-do-we-trust&catid=47:season-2011-2012&Itemid=83 and the issue is still very much alive regardless of how the FTT case finally works out and until such times as trust restorative steps are taken Scottish supports should reject any reconstruction plans.”

  23. Afternoon all.

Watched the game last night and thought we were good for first third of match and pretty poor for rest of it- result matters and I’d hadca bad feeling before the game that wasn’t just become I’m on medication. So happy enough

Punditry from Walker was as bad as I’ve heard- Burley has I think tried to wind us up which partly explains him being a nit but Walker has no such excuses. Last straw was when Kayal gave a terrible return pass to Sammi and he blamed GS for not shooting far further out.

As for the Arbroath ‘goal’ even as someone who thinks keepers are over protected it looked a non brainer for the ref which he actually got right.
