Sensational Celtic remains sound business plan

964

You know a transfer window approaches when practically every media outlet has a story on Celtic are set to lose an important player.  Transfer stories are one of the most reliable commercial ventures in business.  They require no effort to produce, or recopy, as most outlets appear to, do not need to lead anywhere, but income per word read brings in more advertising revenue than anything else the UK media.

The premise that Sir Alex Ferguson has shared his plans to sell and then buy with an external party is ridiculous.  The distraction this can cause to Celtic players is merely a by product.

Ordered the CQN Annual yet? Get it here in time for Christmas!

Those who comment on our game do manage to contort themselves sometimes.  Sky TV convinced themselves Arbroath manager Paul Sheerin’s demonstrable angst at full time last night was in connection to his side’s disallowed goal.  A less animated Paul then explained his actions were frustration at only having three minutes added time.  If he wants to get more TV time he’d better follow the script – be angry at Celtic!

The moment Neil Lennon’s interview ended Sky cut across him to assure us Lassad’s disallowed goal was offside (which it was).  They acknowledged Keddie’s arm around the neck of Fraser Forster for the Arbroath ‘goal’ but were unable to confirm this was against the rules.

Football rules are very confusing, after all, but the rules on how the media make money out of Celtic remain the same.

We have not discussed Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas for a couple of days.  This single is going to position Celtic Charity and the 125 4 125 campaign in a prime spot across the nation.  You and I need to get involved THIS WEEK to raise the profile as high as possible ahead of the Christmas chart.

Sorry for the delay in replying but I only get the opportunity to log on a couple of times a day usually.

I too had a couple of games for Stony but that was a little before your time, they’re still going strong and bought some floodlighting recently.

I’m sure your visits to Wolverton must to have been to a pub to collet the pools money, and if that’s the case then I’d hazard a guess it was Seamus Ward’s pub, The Western. Seamus, God rest his soul passed on about 10 years ago.

Stony was always known for the number of pubs but now it’s equally recognised for the number of restaurants but going back the curry house would probably have been the Golden Sun.

  2. Gentlehoops, please forgive my dereliction of podium duty today, unfortunately as sometimes happens work has been getting in the way of CQN since yesterday.

    Anyway, back to pressing matters:

Tallybhoy – I like to imagine you punctuated that statement with wild hand gestures, and then ate a cannoli. I’m not suggesting all Italians are excitable mafioso types, just most of them.

For that reason, I never did trust that Capocci man or his suspiciously good limeade. That was probably a front and his real Capocci business empire was probably run from a seedy strip club called The Bada Bing. Probably in league with Mr McCool. (thumbsup)

  3. We actually had one teacher called Savage.

Each year he’d introduce himself as, “Savage by name, savage by nature.”, and he meant it.

You can tell I’m still traumatised.

    Not really. I discovered bevvy.

These days he’s probably get nicked for abuse of some sort.

  8. Just seen the green interview on SSN.

Jaw dropping, not so much what Green was saying, he is a clown that says anything he wants seemingly with impunity.

What was staggering was that he is being given such a platform to spout his crap without challenge or even comment. Interview shown, next story. It is being passed off as fact.

As was posted earlier, they were never relegated, why are Sky allowing themselves to be complicit in this charade?

  9. Garcia Lorca,

It is these stories that need to be told, not so that we can wallow in any type of self pity of how thier treatment was of us and our forefathers.

We are witnessing vestiges of that treatment now in the demise of the hun dead and the reaction to it from the media, press et al.

These stories unite us and give us strength especially when we witness thier behaviour in response to us knowing what they are really like.

They have no shame and prime example of this is Cambell Ogilvie, people like him still struts their stuff in the corridors of power but the difference now to our fathers day is that we do not look upon them with anything other than contempt, infact, we mock and laugh at them and they know it and it makes them all the more angry hense their reaction.

I honestly do not know how it is going to end with Sevco, one thing is for sure, they are looked upon now with nothing short of contempt from the majority of supporters throughout the land and they will never be trusted again.

I’ll settle for that for the time being. HH

  10. Lets face it, the move being touted is Victor Wanyama from celtic to man-u. If he does go I will be Beelin’. Why would I want to lose one of my teams best players? Money? Well if that’s the case we’ll never get anywhere. Don’t tell me £10M is a good deal, I know all of that rhetoric. Lets say he does go- and for arguments sake lets say he plays a stormer for man-u up till the end of may. Now lets say man- decide to sell him on 1st July. Will they look for £10M? I doubt it. Mair like £20M

  13. ‘Arsenal have followed Manchester United in giving out highly misleading attendance figures that show their stadiums to be at capacity when in fact there were thousands of empty seats.

United announced a 71,000 near full house for their Champions League game against CFR Cluj when the Old Trafford crowd looked to be 20,000.

And the Emirates Stadium attendance for last Saturday’s match against West Brom was said to be 60,000 when it was obviously down by more than 10,000.

Both clubs defend their policy by saying the figures are based on tickets sold — with United’s Champions League group games included in the season ticket price.

A Premier League spokesman said: ‘Our attendances are up this season. This is not an issue for us.’

So, nothing to worry about in EeePeeEll land then!

    Manager seeks home improvement

By: Mark Henderson on 13 Dec, 2012 14:35

GAMES involving St Mirren have proved profitable for Neil Lennon since he took the reins at Celtic but that won´t allow him to relax ahead of Saturday´s clash with the Paisley outfit.

The Hoops have won every encounter against the Buddies without conceding a goal during the Irishman´s tenure, including a 5-0 hammering in their most recent meeting.

However, the manager knows these impressive statistics will be rendered irrelevant once the action gets underway in Paradise.

And delighted to see his side book their place in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup against Arbroath, he wants them to continue their fine league form of late when Danny Lennon´s men come calling at the weekend.

“Everything has been so good the last 10 days, you want that feeling to be maintained as it can go quite quickly, so I was very mindful of that as well and we look forward to the game on Saturday now,” he said.

“St Mirren are a good model for a lot of SPL clubs. Gus (MacPherson) had really good success with them and Danny has come in, and while results haven’t been great, the product on the pitch has been good to watch.

“He is a progressive manager – he´s trying to play the game in the right way. He has changed the style of play there and I think they are one of the better teams to watch in the division. They are dangerous.

“For some reason, over the last five or six games, things have gone our way. But I keep saying that records are there to be broken and we will take things as seriously as any other game.

“I am looking to improve our home form now and am looking for another good performance on the back of Kilmarnock last week.

“Kilmarnock hadn´t won here since 1957 so records are there to be broken. Danny will have his team very motivated and he might come up with something a little bit different as things haven’t gone for him in the past.

“There have been games which have been very close,” he added. “Last year, particularly at St Mirren Park, we won 2-0 but that game could have gone either way.

“So it´s just all on the day and if we can replicate the form we showed in our last fixture with St Mirren then we should be ok.”

While Celtic have excelled on the road, they have struggled for consistency at home in the league. Without the distraction of UEFA Champions League football until February, the Hoops boss wants that to change.

“You can look for all sorts of excuses and reasons for it,” he said. “It´s something we need to remedy – we want to remedy.

“Our away form has been fantastic. I think sometimes the atmosphere, particularly after the European games, is obviously flatter. And the weight of expectation and heavy load of games plays its part in that as well.

“We have to start playing better at home. Up until Kilmarnock beat us, we hadn´t lost at home for over a year so I want that back as quickly as possible.”

Adam Matthews capped off a terrific week by scoring his first Celtic goal against Arbroath. Judging by his impressive displays, the full-back appears to be thriving in the wing-back berth which he has occupied in the last two games.

“He´s been great,” said the manager. “We know he can do it as we see him do it in training. There are times when he has been a bit tentative with his forward play.

“Defensively he´s not a worry for me at all, as he´s very calm and 1v1 defending he´s as good as I´ve seen here for a long time. Now, he´s adding that attacking part to his game, and it shows what a good all-round player he can be.”

The Welshman didn’t emerge from the game completely unscathed but he should be in contention for Saturday´s match.

“Adam was feeling his groin a bit tight towards the end of the game but we feel he should be ok,” said the Irishman.

“Commons is still out. Paddy McCourt was training today, Rogne was training today and Tony Watt will be training today.

“Forrest will start on Monday which is a timely boost for us as well, with him coming back. But, basically, it´s more or less as you were.”

I have not lived in Scotland for many years so my experiences relate to my formative years growing up in Glasgow ( knowing that I would be asked what school I attended and that gifted footballers around me would never be invited to Ibrox ). I have a deep and lasting distaste for all things associated with Rangers then and The Rangers now. In my journey through life I have met many fans of those clubs whom I have socialised with and I have always demonstrated an open attitude.

Watching the events from afar of the demise of the older club has awakened some interesting feelings. The hard core ( quite large by the looks of it ) has continued with it’s bigoted ways but despite some CQN posters view to the contrary a significant number of football fans in Scotland ( outwith Celtic ) have demonstrated their distaste for them. Is that a straw in the wind?

Whilst it is important that we capture past injustices, place them in context it is as important to see the current position clearly. We have enough evidence to observe that the MSM, blazers and referees are / were in on the ” save the ‘gers ” project. What does this mean for the wider football minded supporters across Scotland. There are signs that the Internet is democratising the place and challenging the closed bowling club , wha’s like us mentality.

Those supporters might not be natural supporters of Celtic FC but a whole lot of them certainly stood up and were recognised as being on the side of justice and fair play. Strength to them, I say.

Whether we like it or not, the club’s whole operating model is now to identify and buy young talent, keep them for as long as we can and then sell for a substantial profit.

The issue with Vic (and Hoops) is that if he doesn’t sign a new contact (whether down to the club not meeting his demands or his agent trying to engineer a move) he is forcing the club’s hand in trying to get him moved on while his value is still high. The longer we keep him (if he doesn’t sign a new contract) the less valuable he becomes.
