Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

IMO – best Celtic stay silent and let the others do the talking. That way we cannot be accused of influencing other clubs, or deflecting media attention from the ‘recently deceased’.

The CSA has called a Delegates Meeting on Sunday re proposal to boycott clubs that support Newco. I think we can all forecast the outcome and Celtic can quote the feelings of our fans when they officially declare their position.

I suspect you know the answer to your own question.

Celtic will not declare their instinctive and categoric no vote publicly, because it would become a Celtic driven agenda and might adversely affect how things have gone up until now.

Sevco have made a perfectly good job of self destruction without Celtic having to say a single word, and the longer we stay out of it the better, preferably all the way till they’ve gone.

I’d be disappointed if Celtic had not been involved in behind closed doors talks with all of the other SPL chairmen, to declare how we would be voting.

Terry I got knocked back by BKs in the early 90s for a maintenance job in Glasgow Airport, looking for sparks with the Approved card whilst I had the SJIB Tech card. They sent the application form back stating to answer all questions marked with an asterisk. Only one question ,Which secondary school did you attend?

I filled it in St Stephens. Two days later I received the dear john from them.

  10. Good evening all. I would just like to say that there is real meaning to the phrase “SILENCE IS GOLDEN”. Remember, that CFC is Green (ho, ho!), White (not with a Y) and GOLD (silence of the lambs but with wolf’s clothing in the wardrobe!)

    Hail, hail!

  11. Don’t post very often ( leave that to the more informed ) , but though I’d let everyone know that there is a football festival in memory of Reamonn Gormley taking place tomorrow at Hamilton Palace Sports Ground .

Celtic are sending along a couple of under 9 (2004) teams to take part .

Starts at 9:30 with Celtic on from 11:30-12:30 .

I believe that the Hateley “new player” thing is to do with Hateley propensity for turning most “Rangers” related news into that very expression.

Nasmith coming back? It will be like signing a new player.

Blooding young players (through necessity) ? It will be like signing a new player..

Apprently, Hateley has made the same comment on many an occasion.

It’s not all bad news for Newco. In fact, they will have an opportunity to win silverware and Celtic will miss out. Never mind the 3rd Division title, they will qualify to for The Ramsdens Cup.

I originally thought it was the fish & chip mob but no – it’s a pawnbroking and financial services company.Ironic or what?

Hi guys. Your stories bring back memories of my destruction days (that’s how my foreman described my work!). I had several meetings with BK looking for contracts. I used to go with my arm in a sling so that I didn’t need to shake any hands. Mind you they were not alone. By the time I retired I nearly had a bore-hole in my palm with funny finger tickling. Out of it now and far away from Renfrew. Great to be hands-free (of masons) again.

I seem to recall Duff & Duffer threatened legal action against the BBC after Mark Daly’s documentary – like Craig Whyte did before them.

In both cases no legal action appears to have taken place. I guess the wheels of justice grind very, very slowly…

Assuming that sevco can support their SPL application with the necessary documentation, you know, the kinda things the SPL will demand at entry level as a minimum:

    1. Business plan/financial projections which underpin their ability to complete the fixture list.

    2. Venue to host home matches – licence/lease to play somewhere, or proof of ownership of their own ground.

    3. Registered players

    4. Fit’n’proper stuff on the owner /directors

The next wee problem might be something to wear during their matches. I know they don’t need a European away top this year, but a home and an away strip will be essential. The old company had one, manufactured by umbro under contract between the old company/JJB (whatever) and umbro. It also had the badge of the soon to be defunct rangers.

New contract, new strip and new badge required (after they get permission for what the new name should be)

    No to naturist newco !

Remember is Duff & Duffer who were never on time with anything (the final, final, date for offers will be…. unless we get none then it will be ….). However they did finish their statement ‘welcoming’ Lord Hodges request with the the information that the guy Isaac’s on Daly’s BBC programme who said they were rogues has changed his mind. With that in mid they were consulting their lawyers.

Funny soon afterwards Daly tweeted that Isaac’s in fact was not retracting what he said at all.

Wonder who is telling the truth? Who do you think I should believe……
