Sevco’s sums

464

We got sight of a couple of interesting stats in the last 24 hours.  Sevco released their proposed season ticket prices for this season – £258 for adults.  The Herald today told us they have sold 450 tickets, which would generate £116k.

For every 10,000 full price adult tickets Sevco sell they can expect an income of £2.58m.  40,000 sales would bring in just over £10m.

The cost Rangers faced to run a football club at Ibrox, before employing any staff whatsoever, has varied in recent seasons, but not dipped below £16m.  On top of this Rangers employed around 200 non-playing staff plus dozens of players.

You see the size of the funding challenge Sevco face, made all the more difficult by what appears to be an almost weekly appearance of a distraction in the form of other parties wanting them to relinquish control.  It’s almost as though the universe is conspiring to starve them of income. Their issues with the SFA will grab current headlines, but if these are resolved far greater challenges lie ahead.

Fans of all Scottish clubs are invited to contribute their thoughts on a variety of subjects, including policing, stewarding, the media, offensive chanting, and are asked for ideas to improve the supporter experience.

I have spoken to the researcher tasked with getting a perspective on this and he is keen to hear from as many Celtic fans as possible.  It will take you around three minutes to complete the online survey, which you can do from here.

He was a main player in Stuart Cosgrove’s, Hampden Babylon in the chapter headed “Five Go To Copenhagen”. Arthur Graham, Joe Harper Billy Bremner were fellow travellers but who played the part of Timmy the Dog(no, it wasn’t Pat).

Probably drawing on his time as a music journo, Cosgrove also had a chapter entitled “Frank’s Wild Years”. Now, which Frank could he possibly be referring to?

Clue; it wasn’t McLintock and it wasn’t Brogan.

Simon Cox is a far better player than many of you on here are giving him credit for. Before moving to West Brom he was a prolific goalscorer at Swindon, and will definitely offer us something different.

I’d take him, happily, in a minute. And at the quoted price – less than £2 million – I think he is an absolute steal.

  13. Any time I’ve seen SImon Cox play he seemed a similar type of player to Shane Long, who Lenny wanted last summer. If we sign him them i’d imagine that Bangura will be the new Rasmussen, an expensive mistake who will spend next couple of years out on loan running down his contract.

Cox, Hooper, Stokes & Watt. 4 strikers for the season with the advantage of Watt filling one of the under 21 positions in the team.

We won’t sign anyone at more than £2m (and even that will be dependant on selling someone for significantly more) so there could be some truth in out interest in Cox.

    What? THE Swindon?

  16. Cox is good footballer who would play behind main striker. Better player than stokes and I think would score just as many.also from what I have seen of him he’s a grafter and plays like someone who appreciates what they have. Something I think our front 2 lack at times.

Becchio at Leeds , always seems to score and from what I can picture is a decent size fellow ?? Can’t remember ever seeing him linked with move to epl..any reason why ?

Mate is big Leeds fan and he rates him.

  17. When signing a player, for me anyway, the most important quality is whether they’re prepared to work hard to improve, and if necessary, adapt.

How a player works hard or doesn’t work hard during the close season under no supervision is a good indicator for me.

  18. Simon Cox’s goalscoring record 2005-2012:

    56 goals in 175 matches

Scoring av 0.32 goals per match.

Think we can aim higher than that.

    HH!!

  19. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

We need to improve the overall quality of the first tem squad, not dilute it further with more bench filler fillers.

If it’s to be Rhodes then concentrate on bringing him to CP, and forget the rest.

Sign one or two quality players every year, instead of doing what he have been guilty of over the past few seasons, ie signing dozens in the hope that one will turn out not to be a dud.

  24. We conceded 21 goals in the SPL last season. 25% fewer than the next best and 5o% better than anyone else. I am terrified that we continue with that sieve of a defence again this season. Get us a CH , Lennie. Anyone will be better than Mulgrew or Rogne.

  25. KAYAL

if we add Rasmussen/Murphy and Bangura`s transfer fees and wages together we could have purchased a fairly decent forward and afforded big wages

Seems like the Irish political class is sacrificing everything for the Euro.

I wonder if they’ll ever be able to admit to themselves that they made a mistake joining the damn thing in the first place. (thumbsup)

I know, right? We’d be better off simply handing half of all would-be undergraduates a few grand in cash and letting them spend it on booze and birds for a couple of years, rather than have them waste their time and money and ours doing pointless non-degrees. (thumbsup)

  27. Cox ? Doesn’t exactly set the pulse rate going, though I’ve only seen him during the recent European championship and actually thought he looked ok

We’ve wasted a fair bit of money in recent years, Murphy,Juarez,Rasmussen,Hooiveld etc

do your aspirations end at the SPL ?

What we have in defence is undoubtedly good enough for the SPL ….good enough for Europe ..i doubt it

as for Rogne …i think he is a very good player with potenetial to be even better …he has a concerning injury record tho

Agree, but in fairness the 3 you mention have probably taken up the same wage at different times over the last few years. Until now they have never all been at the club at the one time, Rasmussen has been on loan for 2 years and Murphy 1 year where someone else has picked up their wages. I’d get rid of those 3 and sign Jordan Rhodes. That would give us Rhodes, Hooper and Stokes fighting for 2 place and Tony Watt as back up to those three. Unfortunatley I can’t see us spending the money to get Rhodes whereas Cox would be more within our budget.

  31. The improvement in the weather today will hopefully result in a decent turnout tonight. I know many are still on holiday and it’s ‘only’ a friendly but it is our first home game of the season. So what do we think – 30,000 maybe?

  32. PF

Of course my aspirations fly higher than SPL success but the SPL is where I see these playe in the main. It is from their performances on that stage that I make my judgement that a CH is not a priority. Mine is a lone voice, I know, but Iwas much, much more comcerned with the like of McManus, Caldwood and Majstorovich.

Will you be having an early season drink in Glasgow? Has MWD organised anything?

  33. JJ

    granted

however i don`t know one fan who wanted Murphy …as for the others ….poor poor signings

re Gravesen…i thought he made meaningful contributions at times and thought he was hard done by …WGS didnae fancy him and he was finished ….he did however contribute more than the three i have mentioned above
