Sevco’s sums

464

We got sight of a couple of interesting stats in the last 24 hours.  Sevco released their proposed season ticket prices for this season – £258 for adults.  The Herald today told us they have sold 450 tickets, which would generate £116k.

For every 10,000 full price adult tickets Sevco sell they can expect an income of £2.58m.  40,000 sales would bring in just over £10m.

The cost Rangers faced to run a football club at Ibrox, before employing any staff whatsoever, has varied in recent seasons, but not dipped below £16m.  On top of this Rangers employed around 200 non-playing staff plus dozens of players.

You see the size of the funding challenge Sevco face, made all the more difficult by what appears to be an almost weekly appearance of a distraction in the form of other parties wanting them to relinquish control.  It’s almost as though the universe is conspiring to starve them of income. Their issues with the SFA will grab current headlines, but if these are resolved far greater challenges lie ahead.

Fans of all Scottish clubs are invited to contribute their thoughts on a variety of subjects, including policing, stewarding, the media, offensive chanting, and are asked for ideas to improve the supporter experience.

I have spoken to the researcher tasked with getting a perspective on this and he is keen to hear from as many Celtic fans as possible.  It will take you around three minutes to complete the online survey, which you can do from here.

  3. Took the old dear to the Peoples Palace today, on the way back she wanted a drive past Celtic Park as she hadn’t seen it for a while. Blown away with all the changes, especially the new approach road and Commonwealth Games facilities.

The even better news is that she’s getting a season ticket for the first time sinced my dad died in 2005. Back to three generations of us at the games again, feels good.

    Hail hail

As of course was ole Jeremy Kyle.

Call me ole fashioned but I’m more interested in how good a Celtic player is , or might be, than how ‘Irish’ he is.

    Totally agree re Cox.

Mensah – lacks height, and is injury prone. But: Immensely strong, great athlete, tons of experience, much of it at top level (international and club). Former player of the year in France. IMO – if we get him fit, and play him alongside a big man at the back, he would be an asset.

He certainly prepares himself properly for pro football – something a lot of our existing players need to learn to do:

makes even Wanyama look a wee bit feeble. He is certainly an improvement on what we have.

  15. Just read an article about the government encouraging people to pay tradespeople not in cash, as there’s a moral problem.

In other news, how did Sevco fans pay for their Brechin tickets and their season books?

  16. philvisreturns on

Personally I’ve always believed if a player’s Irish enough, he’s good enough.

  20. Additionally, Mensah can play right-back, when a very defensive player is required in that role. (European away games perhaps).

I honestly don’t believe we would get him anyway.

Eh, Rangers Tax Case, for example, didn’t start until the tribunal was well underway. It is brilliantly written, exhaustive researched, but it didn’t materially change anything. The die was cast for Rangers i terms of their EBT-destroyed financial status. Celtic Quick News, by recognising the registration conflict, might. All in all though, no one was responsbile for Rangers’ downfall other than Rangers.

Judging by that photo, Mensah looks a bit of a poser with a similar physique to Pat McCluskey. Now , if he could play as well as Pat he’d do ok.

  25. I wish Mark Wilson all the best.

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson is currently training with English Championship club Bristol City.

The 28-year-old is searching for a new club after his six-year stay at Parkhead recently came to an end. He managed only eleven appearances for the Hoops during an injury-affected campaign last season.

Wilson is already well-known to Robins manager Derek McIness from his time spent at his other former club, Dundee United.

He was flying out to Marbella as part of City’s pre-season preparations and with hopes of appearing in their forthcoming friendlies

traditionalist88 – Jedward can’t play centre half unfortunately.

Their singing and dancing skills are debatable too.

    Apart from that they’re great.

Anyway, off on a tangent now:

I saw a programme about Ireland recently on BBC3, it was sobering stuff.

Apparently jobs are like gold dust in Ireland at the moment.

I was slightly astounded of forehead at one young man complaining that he had a Masters degree in social anthropology and – shockingly – nobody wanted to hire him!

You’d think the traditional employers of social science graduates – such as McDonalds, KFC, and Supermac’s – would have snapped him up.

Seems Ireland has the same higher education bubble as we have in the UK and they also have in America: more university graduates than ever, most of them doing worthless degrees and expecting well-paid job to be handed to them on a plate at the end of their studies. We need to cull the universities. (thumbsup)

Gold dust from an article on Mensa Mensa –

The guy who has been given the latest shot of crayons is telling a tale about bumping into an old School chum who was on police duty in Manchester before the Huns started wrecking the city centre. It wasn’t just Tottenham and Chelsea fans, you know…

“I should also mention that my long lost mate was on “spotting” duties and confided to me that trouble was inevitable as he had seen members from over two dozen known firms spanning four different countries that day so far.”

  29. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

Tony Watt is too big, too quick, too good in the air and too good a finisher to get a chance in our first eleven.

His 2 goal debut didny happen.

  30. Simon Cox and John Mensah?! I’m sorry, no harm to these guys, but they are not any better than what we already have! If we were to sign them on combined wages of, say, £25k(?), that would in my opinion be pouring money down the drain, as well as preventing a couple of our young players being given a chance to fight for a first team place!

    HH!!
