SFA and SPL office holders in eye of the storm

682

Somewhere on an upper floor at Hampden SFA and SPL high office holders will be mulling over player contracts submitted by Rangers over the last decade, including for players still registered at the club.

They will compare what they have on file with yesterday’s revelations in The Sun.  As far as the football authorities are concerned, everything will be in good order if Rangers submitted these side contracts, which featured appearance money, to the league and SFA.

But, if the club submitted these contracts to the football authorities, they would have to declare them to the tax authorities as income.

It would be good to hear from some of the very vocal former directors of Rangers on this subject, especially the one currently president of the SFA.

This matter has nothing to do with Our Hero, remember, who is currently drawing fire away from those who put Rangers into danger in the first place, however, Mr Whyte is wholly responsible for the “public censure” issued to Rangers by the Plus Stock Exchange today.  The resultant £50k fine the least of the club’s worries.

  1. Hugh Keevins has until now (as far as i can measure) mentioned on 3 seperate occasions in past few weeks that, for the Champions League, there are 3 qualifying rounds for the SPL winners in order to enter the group stages

i wonder if, come August 2012, he will realise that in fact only 2 rounds are required to be negotiated

Yeah, just read his article, bit disappointed in what he said, like you say, especially the ending regarding they shouldnt have their tainted titles stripped. He should have put the boot right into them and hately

  3. you know what i dislike most about gordon smith…

the fact that he actually makes the existence of a jim traynor on this earth somewhat less of an irrelevance.

because by god, traynor had his paxman moment with that one question.

Can you imagine if this was us. Jesus the record would be 180 pages every day and they would be calling for public floggings and that our stadium should be sold to pay off the Hector and that we should never be allowed back into Scottish Football in any shape of form.

There would be none of the ‘For the good of Scottisj football’ nonsense.

  6. Guys – you need to remember that the people involved in Scottish football from players to directors to the media – are not always the brightest

HK – Wiggy – RH – on SSB proved that in spades

CW must have thought it was taking candy from a baby after all he has practised this scam many times before

  7. From VideoCelts

Aiden McGeady has told Rangers that they have no-one to blame but themselves for going into administration.

The Irish winger missed out on three SPL titles while Rangers operated the controversial Employee Benefits Trust tax scheme that has put the clubs’ future in jeopardy.

A fortnight ago Rangers were put into administration with player redundancies expected at any moment. Earlier today Ibrox owner Craig Whyte warned supporters that there may soon be more pain during a telephone interview on Sky Sports.

McGeady expects Rangers to survive in some form but has no sympathy for the club as it awaits the outcome of the tax case that they benefited from for over a decade.

“Obviously people are saying that they would miss Celtic v Rangers games but it’s really their own fault for over-paying players wages and not paying taxes on them,” the former Celt stated.

“That’s the way that it goes in football, it comes back to haunt you.”

He added: “Celtic have been flying, unbeaten in 19 or 20 games and with Rangers falling apart at the minute it’s looking quite good if you are a Celtic fan.

“Celtic are still in three competitions, looking like we are going to win the league, the Scottish Cup and the League Cup as well so everything is looking rosy at Celtic Park at the minute.”

    Much love Aiden!

  8. I hope they are liquidated on 25th May, something to do with it being the same day as the anniversary of the greatest day for Scottish football

  9. IMO

Most of what is going on in the media and phone ins is pretty much

nothing less than expected, nothing more than wortless foam from the mouth.

What will be worth listening to is what we, Celtic, say when time comes for us to speak.

We will get our say when the time comes.

Celtic are not without friends or allies in Football, only in Scotland

  23. David Gold and Peter Storrie showing exactly why they’re both failed club chairmen.

Gold blames the HMRC for much of RFCIA’s tax debt – how can they let them run up this debt?? Erm, they hid it you utter tool.

Storrie slates the HMRC for asking how a club was run. Erm, they’re business is in taxation you flange, but now that we mention it, how did you run a football club.

    Cretins.
