SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

As someone posted earlier, Scottish football does not need the parasites of the now defunct football club or the newco set up to the attract the custom of it’s former fans.

Those conspiring to hasten their return should remind themselves of the nearcataclysmic events those who favour the oldco brought to the game in this country and that they were not as big as they think they are. :))))

One very important thing to also focus on is that the success of a football league does not have to be directly dependent on the money available to it. It’s about time (and we’ve been saying it for long enough) that we started to invest in the grass roots of this country. Get some decent academies on the go and no this doesn’t have to cost a fortune.

The team that was the biggest impediment to this and which took up so much of the SFA’s time and resources over that past few years is now gone. Don’t be in such a hurry to conspire for their return! Take advantage of the opportunity and move forward.

Get rid of the blazers and the parasitic hangers-on and watch the game flourish.

Newco can only escape punishment for Oldco if they do not claim the history of Oldco. If they want the history they have to take the punishment. In my opinion of course.

Good comment as always, I think things are going to get a lot better now in Scotland. It will naturally fix itself IMO.

I happen to think the pressure will be lifted from Celtic especially and we will be able to bring through as many quality home grown players who will be able to play at Champions League level.

I see nothing but positivity regards Celtic from todays news.

I am well aware that Sevco, the company, are not Rangers and should not be punished for the sins of the old company.

However, we have yet to see an official announcement, from the SFA, concerning the “transfer of history” which is a biggie for me. All hints so far are that the Authorities think it is an easy and a normal practice for Sevco to inherit Rangers history. That, for me, is not on.

In addition, there are many people around the Sevco club who were involved with the old club (Paul Murray, Gordon Smith, and, very likely, Craig Whyte too) and others who are probably not arms length from the Whyte and Murray era (Charlie Green and some of his undisclosed partners e.g.)

    What I was trying to say, clumsily I admit, is that there should be no amnesty on the misdeeds involved by all in the Rangers fakeover saga. The Mood Music today from Green and McCoist was all about drawing a line, don’t look over there, we’re not those guys etc;

I have a question to the more knowledgable chaps on here.

What strips does the Newco wear, what badge do they wear and can HMRC still go after the Newco for there money if they have the same name badge etc

Senor Pablo Diablo – Yes, and with less chance of social unrest.

Yup. Even those poor benighted countries don’t have such a peculiar institution as the Orange walk. (thumbsup)

Kevtic – Debt free rangers will be a goldmine for Green in the next three years. Very little wages will need to be paid for rangers to romp through the divisions.

    You sure of that, Kevtic?

Ibrox is pretty expensive to maintain, and Rangers fans were famous for walking away when their club wasn’t winning things. How loyal will Sevco 5088 fans be? We’re about to find out. (thumbsup)

Sevco 5088 has very little history, indeed it has never won a match.

Would-be supporters of that would-be club can pretend all they like that it’s Rangers, but the law of the land and the laws of the game state otherwise. (thumbsup)

Just noticed there…..on SSN, they’ve changed the format from SPL to Scottish Lge………. Now WHY would they do that .?…LOL.

  17. After today’s momentous events and in the spirit of reconciliation I woud like offer some assistance to those Sevco followers who intend to travel the highways and byways of Scotland following their team.

I can highly recommend the book “Stramash” by Daniel Gray.

“An excellent book about the country’s “smaller” teams…Stramash captures the vague romance that still clings to these “smaller” Scottish clubs. It will make a must read for every non- Old Firm football fan – and for many Celtic and Rangers supporters too – “Daily Record”

“There have been previous attempts by authors to explore the off the beaten paths of the Scottish football landscape but Daniel Gray’s volume is in another league.” The Scotsman.

Worthy of an entry into the CQN book club too.

  18. SFTB

    Agreed.

And while I live and breathe those things will never, ever be allowed to be dropped.

As a Celtic fan, we have long memories and the necessary faculties to reconcile both facts – the huns are defunct and their history is a constant reminder of Scotland’s Shame.

The defhuncters will attempt to jettison their toxic past while retaining their tainted titles and the rest of their ill-gotten gains.

    We wont let them.

  19. News at ten start with a summary, including rangers one of the biggest teams in Scotland, I’m thinking honest reporting at last, then we get a report obviously from the Scottish version of honest reporting which managed to be at odds with the leader and finished with the threat that rangers will have their revenge when Scottish football goes bust ……. Dignity from the Scottish BBC loving Sevco.

Stupid hurting Huns, oh happy days.

Don’t think so. The ones who TUPE’d over are on existing T & C’s. Way past the point of arguing on Economic grounds as the transfer has occurred.

Point taken on the transfer of history, however I think this will be settled by BDO, if they do their job they’ll prevent the re-use of the Deadco crest or a name that’s too close to “Rangers FC”.

This will circumvent whatever the SFA do and I have high hopes that in the spirit of a push towards integrity by a huge majority of fans and clubs, we’ll get a more honest, fair and transparent SFA/new governing body post-Regan.

Similarly I trust BDO and police investigations will take care of the culpability of Smith, Johnston, McLelland, D. Murray, P. Murray et al.

Absolutely correct, my point is that for Newco to realise that they have to be forced to make a choice. Claim the history, take the punishments, leave any claim on the history, fresh start, no punishments.

They do want to claim the history, they have to be shown they have none, or in a few years they will simply claim to be Rangers FC 1872. The MSM will try to assist them in this, you can already see it, the references to Rangers rather than Newco/Sevco etc.

Be careful if you do go to Elgin etc.

they will doubtless wear a blue strip with a badge that looks a lot like FC..it can’t be the same though – unless in due course they buy the rights…but my understanding is that takes years before they can do that – some legal thing to prevent companies portraying themselves as old businesses..
