SFL delivers as SPL Ltd facing insolvency

1374

The Scottish Football League today placed an upper limit on which division Sevco can play in next season – their Third.  We must now wait on the company providing sufficient information to complete their application to the SFL and for membership of the Scottish FA.  Although many Rangers fans want Sevco to join the Third Division, chief exec Charles Green was clearly hoping to start life higher up the food chain.

The overwhelming nature of this verdict indicates the solidarity between clubs and fans, throughout the divisions, on how our sport is governed.  This is a good thing but it leaves one burning question on the table:

Is the Scottish Premier League insolvent?

Last week SPL chief exec Neil Doncaster told SFL clubs that the Premier League would be unable to meet its contractual obligations if they did not vote Sevco into the First Division.  Unless this was a shameless lie designed to bully clubs into giving Doncaster what he wanted, the Scottish Premier League Ltd should seek to appoint an administrator without delay.

You can ignore comments about league reconstruction at some unspecified point in the future, Doncaster told us last year that “those who want 16 teams in the top flight are deluding themselves.”

The Scottish Football League does not need the SPL, or its money, to continue to thrive as a community-based sporting entity.  They will flourish.  What happens to the SPL remains to be seen.

As we have observed once or twice before, M. Platini, where are you?  We need the football world to assist with the survival of the game in one of its historic heartlands.

  2. Shallow shallow,

say this with 100% honesty, a break from the utter bile that emanates from the east end republican unwashed and seeing purely the club I was born to love working our way back to full health on a lower but sustainable budget, while getting to visit many newer grounds and piling umpteen trophies into the cabinet in the process will be a breath of fresh air.

Rangers in europe while a nice income is just not a realistic target normally for anything other than group stages minus the rare UEFA cup run, so while I will miss that I can easily live without it…..our support I feel will be more united than ever for the teams sake if not for each other and while I do not always take the more positive things in every situation I really do see this as the best and fairest road for the club to go down.

The hatred from others will probably no doubt just grow such is this pathetic little nations small man syndrome from irrelevant dangleberries but they are exactly that, not worth a second thought.

We will leapfrog everyone in scotland (including the parkhead orcs) such is our passion, drive and character and getting there will just be as much fun as lifting the first premier title where we have been for so long.

To a new journey brothers and sisters………

    ——————————————————————————————-

    Totally agree.

    Here’s to the adventure.

We will be back and it’ll be more glorious than ever

    ———————————————————————————————–

Can’t wait for the next chapter in the glorious history of the The Rangers, bring it on

    ———————————————————————————————–

Full steam ahead for the adventure.

    ———————————————————————————————–

    Amen brother.

One day I hope to be sitting with my grandweans on my knee and telling them of how we came back from oblivion to start on this glorious adventure back to the top.

I’m relieved this decision has been made at last. The only way is up.

    ————————————————————————————————

What will folk miss from the SPL? Seriously? We are out of Europe for 3 seasons anyway.

Miss celtc? Miss playing the same teams 3-6 times a season. Miss the St Mirren fans and their great song (boooooo)?

    ————————————————————————————————

Only club in the world to win every competition in the country they play in, there is something to aim for. My only downer is the quality of the football, the opposition will really be pish.

    ————————————————————————————————-

Yes. Im glad the SFL clubs made a decision today and that decision should be upheld. No SPL 2 for me.

The road to glory starts here. The SPL has been dull for years now, this could be the shake up we need.

    ————————————————————————————————–

the next 3/4 year will be a benefit to everyones blood pressure, withoutt having to worry about the orcs….we can enjoy our footy with a smile…or am i being too confident that we’ll have a 3 yr easy ride?????

    ————————————————————————————————-

I am not in any rush to get back to the SPL and if those sporting integrity obsessed throbbers re-jig whole league structures to suit their pockets being lined then this simply laminates the fact that, as we already knew, sporting integrity is a lot of pish, a business word used which in layman’s terms means we fucking hate you and want you out of existence, well you utter bellends, good luck in the future – you will need it FAR more than this here fine establishment.

    Hahahahahahaha YYYAAAAAAAAAAASSSSS

    ————————————————————————————————-

Yeah because when St Johnstone & St Mirren come to Ibrox playing their 11 men behind their own 18 yard box it is enthralling stuff….lol

We will win games 11 -0, and be in fucking hysterics…..and that’s just by half time.

    ————————————————————————————————

Don’t think so the SPL is shite but the SFL is far far worse, Rangers will be back in SPL in season 2015-2016. It’s not too long and what doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger, let’s enjoy the next three years and let Ally train some lads up for the future.

    ———————————————————————————————

I agree with every word of the OP.

The fresh air away from the poison that comes from Celtic will be refreshing. For the first time in 124 years we can be judged on our own merits and not be expected to react to or live with the reaction from Them and their pseudo-Irishness and victimhood.

  5. just read ICT statement said they would have to reconsider financial implications, not change position with regards newco. my guess is that most clubs will already have an idea with regards finances, however, because of the newco agenda other outcome have not been given full consideration and now the hard sell must begin to ensure the best possible deal for all concerned. just shows how poor our business people are, if they worked in the real world they would not last a week, nobody puts all their eggs into one basket it poor practice.

another season to look forward to from the only club never to play outside the top flight in scotland (WANTP) hail hail

I am not talking about the delusions of the Sevco fans. I would choose to laugh at them rather than try to introduce the novelty of logic to their lives.

I am referring to the official position of the SFA. No other liquidated club got to keep their history nor did they inherit any other club’s history when they bought their league share.

I want no official precedent set for them.

    bankiebhoy

I am glad someone can get the point through my poorly expressed intentions. They need to know that the rest of Scotland has declared them officially dead.

They can go on pretending that the dead Russian Premier is alive but the smell may persuade them to quietly bury that idea.

In 1964 the huns proposed a reorganisation of the then league structure. This involved ditching the four clubs with the lowest attendances. One of these clubs was Stranraer, the third oldest club in Scottish football. Celtic led the opposition to the proposal, which was defeated.

It looks like it was Stranraer who voted against the huns being allowed into the SFL.

Again you are correct, there is a legal barr on them claiming to be Oldco, namely Oldco won’t be liquidated for some time. Also Trading Standards would, I think, have something to say about this, from memory they can’t use anything that associates them to Oldco. I do stand to be corrected on this though, read it on RTC I think.

Someone is going to have to explain to this genius how the fixtures work in a 10-team, 36-match per team league. And the possibility of drawing a 3rd Div team at some stage in the Scottish Cup, League Cup and Ramsden’s Cup. Assuming they win a fixture in the Scottish Cup.
