Shakhter sounding bolshy on Celtic

1231

I hear the modest noises which Shakhter manager Viktor Kumykov made after their win over Celtic last week have been replaced by more robust predictions.  Kumykov told the most senior local apparatchik, Baurzhan Abdishev, that Shakhter will score a few goals in Glasgow and progress into the Champions League group stage.

I always like to hear confidence like this from the opposition camp.  Let Celtic do their talking on the park.

Shakhter are further away from home than any team participating in Champions League history, apart from Celtic who faced the opposite journey last week.  The second half on Wednesday kicks off at 01:45 Kazak time; no matter what the score at the halfway point, the latter part of the game will be when the visitors are at their most vulnerable.

Meanwhile Kazak news report that Shakhter have shipped shirts to some Glasgow-based football fans, who will be attending Celtic Park on Wednesday as newly-recruited Shakhter fans.

Did we mention practicing penalties?  The entire squad should spend time today and tomorrow doing so, but Kris Commons especially.  He is the one penalty taker Shakhter will prepare to face.

Memory of the day:

We lost the first leg of our European Cup, first round, tie against Partizan Tirana in 1979 1-0.  It was thought important for Celtic to score first in the return but Partizan doubled their lead and scored an away goal.

Celtic went on to hit four and progress, although none of the strikers got on the score-sheet, Davie Provan played arguably his best game for the club.

Bring it on……..

:-) not a snipe at anyone merely an observation mate.

Not been on much over the last few days but have seen posts from some suggesting that Zaluska replacing Foster on Wednesday night.

If that were to happen, just turn the lights out now.

  2. paolosboots Good Luck Wee Oscar on

Martybhoy59, i could have guessed there were plenty of tickets left from the official press release saying tickets available from all stores and ticket office open late!!!. Said before that the pricing is all wrong, particularly when a full house makes the noise to support the team and spending on peripherals will make up the spend per fan.

Was interested to read the accounts and see that if pedro hadn’t deferred his bonus (we made a loss last year ) of £200k he will have earned the princely sum of nearly £2m in 2011 & 2012 in total.

  3. HT

Hahaha bang on there. Zaluska could’ne catch a cauld. According to NFL on twitter earlier, FF is going nowhere. Full stop. :)))

  4. Final point on the debt position. We did have a loan due to the bank of about £11m but, in another acccount, we had almost as much money in the bank. Just like if you borrowed £11,000 to buy a car but had £11.000 in another savings account.

If I remember correctly, we had a net debt of £160,000 which is just small change.

    Hope this explains it.

I am both excited and worried about Wednesday. Will we play the team who lost no goals to Bate or the team who lost 3 early goals in Albania. We must play at the highest tempo for the whole game and never let them settle.

Hope I am hoarse on Thursday morning.

  5. HT

I think you could play in goals on Wednesday mate. It’s the other end we need to be concerning ourselves with. Quick pass and move ……I know, I know and we’ll tear them apart. High balls into box will be food and drink to them. We should have enough in the tank eh?

I did not state that Celtic’s main objective is to screw their fans for as much money as possible, and certainly not aggressively. Dividends are paid to some share-holders. DD for example. PL is paid a healthy bonus. Is it based on financial results or on-field results?

I think you missed my point.

Yes, I boycott many companies. Most of the ones you mention. I do my best to do my best.

We need to disagree with each other. I don’t find it acceptable for Celtic to be silent in the cheating and looking forward to the re-introduction of a Rangers to the top-flight.

I would like to highlight that I don’t think we need to hate anyone. As I wrote, I am repeating what I’ve heard many times from other supporters.

I’ll take on board that my posts come across to you as angry. I’ve also tried to address the points raised in your post, unlike you did with mine.

I also never wrote that Celtic should lead the anti-bigotry way in Scotland. I do say they should stop acting like the battered wife.

Becasuse the SMSM do not comment on the corruption of the game does not mean that Celtic should not or cannot and if Celtic comments upsets them. So what?

Our primary role is playing football. In a fair, equal, just sport. Otherwise it isn’t sport.

  7. Percepta, sorry can’t remember any Dom Sc teachers was forced to take Latin which I hated.

A Maths teacher I do remember was called Ghosty, very, very strict, not a cheap ever from the class. One Monday morning the wild boys from Mallaig came in late and we thought they would all get belted- they stayed Mon to Thur in the school hostel. Anyway the bright and cheery Duffy ( very good footballer by the way) said ” Sorry we’re late sir, the train had a puncture”

Incredible tension for the rest of the period waiting for the eruption but relief all round when the bell went.

Just hame after a great day…..am looking to find oot a wee place for the grey brigade on Wednesday, during my travels and watering holes, I stumbled on an agent I know, however i haven’t seen him for a while due to his extravagant lifestyle and the fact that he lives far away. Now whether you believe it or not, he told me we have been trying to sign quite a few players in the past 6 weeks, most have shrugged their shoulders and said naw! Some have shrugged their shoulders and said mibbee, now he tells me it’s not dependant on the CL but who offers what late in the window….
