Shakhter sounding bolshy on Celtic

1231

I hear the modest noises which Shakhter manager Viktor Kumykov made after their win over Celtic last week have been replaced by more robust predictions.  Kumykov told the most senior local apparatchik, Baurzhan Abdishev, that Shakhter will score a few goals in Glasgow and progress into the Champions League group stage.

I always like to hear confidence like this from the opposition camp.  Let Celtic do their talking on the park.

Shakhter are further away from home than any team participating in Champions League history, apart from Celtic who faced the opposite journey last week.  The second half on Wednesday kicks off at 01:45 Kazak time; no matter what the score at the halfway point, the latter part of the game will be when the visitors are at their most vulnerable.

Meanwhile Kazak news report that Shakhter have shipped shirts to some Glasgow-based football fans, who will be attending Celtic Park on Wednesday as newly-recruited Shakhter fans.

Did we mention practicing penalties?  The entire squad should spend time today and tomorrow doing so, but Kris Commons especially.  He is the one penalty taker Shakhter will prepare to face.

Memory of the day:

We lost the first leg of our European Cup, first round, tie against Partizan Tirana in 1979 1-0.  It was thought important for Celtic to score first in the return but Partizan doubled their lead and scored an away goal.

Celtic went on to hit four and progress, although none of the strikers got on the score-sheet, Davie Provan played arguably his best game for the club.

Bring it on……..

That is a very interesting post and one that I note no subsequent poster has made any comment on.

The information you have repeated is exactly the same as was given on Friday and which I posted on Friday night, namely that Celtic have been very active in trying to bring players in but that the players and their agents ( not necessarily the selling clubs ) have told Celtic that they will not do business until the end of the window and until they see what is on offer from elsewhere and if Celtic get into the champions league.

As I said on Friday, the transfer window is becoming a nightmare of a market place and as each window comes around the negotiating tactics change completely.

Whist I accept that we should not be in the position we are in re transfers, having had a discussion on Friday I have far more sympathy with NL/PL etc than I had before as there is a real culture abroad amongst players and agents that they will wait and see till the bitter end in an attempt to get the best deal for themselves.

I also understand that many of the agents actually see refusing to sign contracts as the way forward as “free agents” can sign for a club at any time with the added benefit that the player gets the transfer fee ( or most of it ) that would have gone to the selling club.

Tony Stokes current position comes to mind.

It will be filed with all the rest, nobody has the balls to do or say anything against them, they are the power in scotland.

See the day that folks stand up to them, that will be the day I book my flight back home to stand with the folks who oppose them.

Cannot supply the link but Charlotte Fakes has provided a letter proving that Campbell Ogilvie knew about the Discount Option Scheme which produced the £2.8m wee tax bill in 2011 right from the beginning DOS was used in 1999.

This totally removes his deniability and although evidence will be ignored by msm it truly must make an enquiry into the 2011 UEFA licence award essential.

Who do you think will call for an enquiry?

Ally McCoist, the man who threatened to walk away, is not a gambler. He hedges his bets. Prior to the RIFC (cont) http://tl.gd/n_1rm2ge7

Prior to the RIFC IPO in December 2012, he stated that he would resign if his salary was published in the forthcoming prospectus.

To overcome this, McCoist proposed that this be masked as £200k plus guaranteed bonus, effectively disguising his true level of remuneration.

This was dismissed by the Board, although after seeking further advice, a compromise was reached. As a result a figure was published which meant it was simply not possible to determine the actual salary with any real confidence.

What may not be known is that Mr McCoist and Charles Green both agreed to change their salary levels around July 2012. Charles went from £720k to £360k (+£360k bonus) if the club were successful in SFL3. Hardly a gamble. Ally on the other hand dropped from £750k to £600k per year. I am not aware if there was any bonus to be paid in addition to this amount.

This is where Ally appears to have hedged his bets. His agreement was verbal in nature. Towards the end of December 2012 Ally McCoists representatives let it be known that they wished reinstatement of the £750k salary as well as £62.5k to cover the shortfall in the previous 5 months.

The board argued the case that such a rise, immediately after the IPO, would not be good practice. Charles then had to relay to the board that only one contract remained in place and that quite clearly stated that Ally should receive £750k per year.

Should Ally once again go public with an offer to reduce his salary, it would be wise to ensure that HR are kept in the loop. If he’s truly supporting of fan ownership, then perhaps he might consider transferring his 1,000,000 shares at cost price to the supporters trust. I’m sure they can gather £10k pretty quickly.

Your comment regarding Anthony Stokes was also raised, you are spot on! The agent in question also mentioned the plight of our former foes and stated it was a win win situation regarding their precarious position. Players/Agents know if they have no contracts come 1st of September ” we are the only ones who will make any money”.

According it him and from what you are saying, players are holding fire til they see the cash on offer from other clubs….can’t blame them….CL has little to do with the financial offers….I thought it was very interesting..he said kikinthenakas it’s all about “Netto…”

  13. Some fascinating posts up here tonight.

I think we’ve gained a little insight into the difficulties

we’ve been experiencing in the market.

Guess when we hear the story about the ‘one that got away’

Some of us will take some comfort that we actually got round

to playing the 5 million card…

Don’t think that’ll appease everyone though.

Doesn’t address the issue of timing…

Gutted, but in a strangely philosophical kind of mood.

  15. Brogan Rogan Trevino i have absolutley no doubt that Celtic have been busy this transfer window. they have been trying to get best value for money( and so they should be) all the offers they have made have for strikers have fallen short of what the clubs and players want. sure come in of of transfer window some clubs and players might take these offers.

note other clubs dont have the same problem celtic have, they offer the going rate and secure their targets. we dont

Bradford City’s star striker Nahki Wells won’t be talking about this goalscoring exploits just yet following a gag imposed by the club.

According to the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, the Bantams have enforced “a vow of silence” until 11.01pm next Monday, when the summer transfer window closes.

Wells smashed a club record on Saturday when he netted both goals in the 2-0 victory over Sheffield United. He became the first City player to score in eight successive games — three at the end of the last season and in every game since the new campaign started.

Saturday’s double made it nine goals in eight games.
