Shakhter sounding bolshy on Celtic

1231

I hear the modest noises which Shakhter manager Viktor Kumykov made after their win over Celtic last week have been replaced by more robust predictions.  Kumykov told the most senior local apparatchik, Baurzhan Abdishev, that Shakhter will score a few goals in Glasgow and progress into the Champions League group stage.

I always like to hear confidence like this from the opposition camp.  Let Celtic do their talking on the park.

Shakhter are further away from home than any team participating in Champions League history, apart from Celtic who faced the opposite journey last week.  The second half on Wednesday kicks off at 01:45 Kazak time; no matter what the score at the halfway point, the latter part of the game will be when the visitors are at their most vulnerable.

Meanwhile Kazak news report that Shakhter have shipped shirts to some Glasgow-based football fans, who will be attending Celtic Park on Wednesday as newly-recruited Shakhter fans.

Did we mention practicing penalties?  The entire squad should spend time today and tomorrow doing so, but Kris Commons especially.  He is the one penalty taker Shakhter will prepare to face.

Memory of the day:

We lost the first leg of our European Cup, first round, tie against Partizan Tirana in 1979 1-0.  It was thought important for Celtic to score first in the return but Partizan doubled their lead and scored an away goal.

Celtic went on to hit four and progress, although none of the strikers got on the score-sheet, Davie Provan played arguably his best game for the club.

Bring it on……..

I`ve just watched the highlights of Shakhtar`s away leg in Albania and I feel much better. Celtic should wallop this team (but then I thought that throughout the first leg).

First goal – ball played from edge of the box to the left flank, attacker hits the bye-line, easily beats number 87 (Simcevic)to cut a low ball across the box which takes out numbers 4 (Vasiljevic), 20 (Dzidic) and 25 (Maliy) who are stranded in the 6 yard box, striker beats a feeble challenge to convert at the back post from 6 yards out.

Second goal – Skenderbeu counter attack started from their left flank ten yards from their own goal line. Ball down the line reaches midfielder who, ten yards inside Shakhtar half, plays a reverse pass into the left hand side of the box. Attacker moves to run onto this, still someway from goal and number 4 (Valijevic) who is goalside, lunges into a rash and unnecessary slide tackle and takes the man and none of the ball. Penalty.

Shortly after this there`s another attack from left flank, attacker plays low cross into the box about 5 yards from bye-line, number 87 (Simcevic)makes a very weak attempt to stop the cross simply kicking his leg in the air some 5 yards from the crosser, as the attacker goes to meet the ball across the box he is brought down crudely by number 25 (Maliy) but no penalty this time.

Third goal – Long ball through the middle which at attacker tries to run onto, Mokhin comes running 30 yards out his goal, the ball is clipped around him, attacker is brought down in the box by 25 (Maliy) as he tries to progress towards the unguarded net. Penalty.

I think keep the ball on the deck, run at them, play zippy passes, low balls into the box. They don`t like it. And when we start scoring they will attack and leave huge gaps at the back.

Simicevic at right back looks like a very weak link indeed,he can`t stop a cross. Low crosses delivered with pace trouble the defence. Maliy and Valijevic are liabilities who foul with impunity under pressure. An early goal and they will fold and there will be at least one red card.

  3. Thought Watt did well on Saturday Dont want Forrest anywhere near team on Wednesday Put Sammy back on left dont know who would play up front Balde for his physique Stokes(if fit) for his ability to take a chance Watt for his pace None imo look likely to get us the goals we need Terrible position our manager has been put in

Pal.. Ah jist read yer question.. aboot…

How did the Celtic Scouts Miss.. Finnbogson and Went fur.. a Stooge, like Bangura ,Instead?

As Finnbogason was available ,coincidentally, at the same time as oor Scouts wur oan the Hunt fur a new Striker.

Ah believe the following Contains the Answer to that Question…

We went fur Bangura.. fur the Same Reason ,that we went fur.. Amido.

Change that ..tae.. Fur the Same TWO REASONS, as to why we went and Choose

Bangura..and Later, the same TWO REASONS,as to why …we went and chose Amido.

    as well.

    First Reason..

Oor Scouts wur under instructions tae Look fur a Tall.. Target Man.

    and the

    Second Reason

And not tae spend Much money, in the Process.

Well.. Oor Scouts did the best that they could.. they carried oot their Instructions, tae the lettah.

    and the Result wiz..

That we wur stuck wi Two Tall Target Men.. and although, they wur cheap.. or..mebbe BECAUSE.. they wur Cheap..

Those Two Tall Target Men, wull Never make it at Celtic.

Naturally, because oor Scouts wur NOT looking fur a Quick Footed, Agile, Striker who wid not be considered tae be the Tall Target Man Type.. ( Although, he is a Good Six Footer)

Finnbogason, and his Ilk , wur not even considered.

He was Not ..Over-Looked per se.. He was not even on the Remit of the Scouts.

This obsession.. and I like tae call it ,an obsession. because..well..

It is a Bloody Well Obsession!.. of Neil and His Crack back room Team..

With the idea that Celtic need a Tall Target Man..

This Inane Obsession…is what is Behind this Total Mess in Which Celtic are Now Floundering.

Neil, was rattling oan aboot Signing.. Kevin Doyle.. as ye know. Kevin Doyle does fit.. Neil and Cos. Tall Target Man Obsession, so Neil’s enthusiasm for the Irishman

    was understandable..if Not.. Sensible.

Ah hiv said fur Years, oan here..

That Ah detest Tall Target Men.. WHO COME ,CHEAPLY..

Noo, Tall Target Men who Do NOT come Cheaply.. are ,of course ..

    Horses of a DiFfERENT COLOR!

In this Discourse, Ah am Talking..

    Exclusively , aboot..

Tall Target Men who do not cost Aloat.

Ah wid always opt fur a Quick Footed, Agile. Goal scoring Striker..

    Period.

Ah hiv not the slightest inclination tae Drift affa the Tried and true Template of the Kinda Striker ,who has proved tae be.. an Unabashed success at Celtic

Like.. Jimmy McGrory, Bobby Lennox, Dixie Dean, Joe McBride… the Great

    Henrik Larsson..

All Quick Footed and Agile goat scorers of great Merit..

    And ALL tae A Man.

Not Tall Target Men.. but men of Modest Dimensional Physique.

As far as Ah am concerned..

these Reasons which Ah hiv Given.. are the True Reasons as tae why we are now in this Kinda Predicament..

    And..Let me say this…

Peter Lawwell, is entirely Innocent of Any Involvement in this Mess.

He is only the C.E.O. the Negotiator..The Money Man,if ye Prefer…

It Is the Footballing Department who Instructs the Celtic Scouting Team oan whit tae

go oot there and Look fur.

To Blame Peter. for this trouble of Neil And Co’s Making..in which we find ourselves.

Oot high and Dry…and Stranded oan a Creaky Limb, with Not a step ladder in sight..

I see we are being linked with Nir Biton. Funnily enough his agent is Dudu Dahan. This is the same guy who was agent to Kayal, Ambrose and Gershon when they joined Celtic. It seems strange that we have a worldwide scouting network but sign so many players from a comparatively small country like Israel and with the same agent involved everytime. I think Dahan is fast becoming our de facto Director of Football!

    Snake,

It might be that they thought that they were already through against the Albanians and were coasting through the game, hence the space the Albanians were finding, and they`ll definitely not have that mindset against us. We have given them something to cling onto and fight for after the first leg.

But I can`t help but think they are desperately poor, that full back`s attempts to stop crosses were laughable at any level of football. Get at them from the start and put them right under the cosh, draw fouls and get them facing their own goal.

This totally removes his deniability and although evidence will be ignored by msm it truly must make an enquiry into the 2011 UEFA licence award essential.
