Shiels has history on his side tomorrow

923

It would be easy for Celtic to take their eye of the ball.  A huge Scottish Cup game at Tannadice last week, which was more difficult than the score-line suggests, before Neil Lennon had what will have been a few traumatic days.  The tension in the west of Scotland ahead of next weekend’s game at Ibrox is already tangible; in truth, we could do with some quiet preparation time ahead of tomorrow’s Scottish Communities League Cup Final against Kilmarnock.

Kilmarnock have no such worries.  The Cup Final tomorrow is their season.  Out of the Scottish Cup and certain to finish in the bottom six of the SPL, their focus will be absolute tomorrow.  Kenny Shiels’ team have won only four league games since October  but you will not need me to tell you two of those victories were against Rangers.

Two home wins within six days against Rangers and Aberdeen, the latter on 3 December, suggested Killie were certain to challenge for a European place this season, but things have moved south since then.  They beat St Mirren on 2 January at Rugby Park before that impressive performance dumped Rangers on their bums at Ibrox last month.

Kenny Shiels made it onto Radio Scotland during the week to tell the nation that Celtic were so good it would be a travesty if they didn’t win the treble.  I totally agree (and I’m warming to this guy) but Kenny knows exactly what he is doing.  He intends to win the cup tomorrow and will know every potential weakness in the Celtic team.

History suggests he has a decent chance.  Since winning five consecutive finals (until 1969), Celtic competed in 20 finals, winning only seven.  We have some form to make up in this tournament.

Not intimidated just using the noggin.:) They will be fired up & for what reason?

They have nothing to play for but to kick lumps out of us. Could you imagine the anti-climax in the currents dressing room/stands when handed Celtic’s team-sheet. What pleasure would they take from beating a 19’s team? I think it would be a massive up yours & would show them zero respect, exactly what they deserve. It would also give our talented youngsters some terrific experience, even if they were to lose but I think there’s every chance the 19’s could turn them over. Anyhow I know I’m very much in the minority but i would love to humiliate them & can’t think of any better way. Our first team will murder them & are expected to do so but at what cost? Elbow’s has already put Kayal out for most of the season no doubt they’ll be intent in doing similar next weekend. Why give them any satisfaction at all. We’ll still be partying for 90 mins no matter the result.

I think we should agree to disagree with your idea.

Quonno said last night he’d be happy if we lost next week as long as we win today!

I do not want to lose to the huns in ANY circumstances.

    And you shouldn’t either.

Now it’s cup final day and i will not discuss the mingers any more today.

    Have a great day.

  4. Come on the Celts, go and bring it home, haven’t managed to get a ticket today, but will be there in spirit.

    Hail Hail

  5. Quick question lads. I’m a bit behind on this. Can we win the league next sunday at Ibrokes? Had a right laugh in the pub yesterday watching der Hun capitulate but could only hear Ian Crocker trying to urge the ball into the Dundee U net for a Hun equaliser and nothing about next weeks permutations.

    Please enlighten me!

Come on you Bhoys in grey ……. white and green. Doesn’t sound the same does it? I hate Celtic having to wear away strips in Cup Finals. Give us the Hoops everytime.

The first part of a historic and memorable treble is within Neil Lennon’s grasp today. Go on yourself son and grab your chance with both hands.

True words big pal , Mrs G loves the garden so I never cut the grass for fear of taking away her enjoyment.

Away to look again, must be somewhere.

Although Ian Black is a deplorable creature he can actually play. That was a great pass for Beattie and his control (so often lacking in a Celtic shirt) was excellent.

That would work, look forward to it if it happens. An hour and a tenner on the train for me for either Bristol or Cheltenham, but when I looked at it,Cheltenham was the winner.

Just make sure you inadvertently leave yer better half’s credit card in Hamilton-Cheltenham is an expensive day oot for women!

Gorgeous to put Killie to the sword today & the same again next week would be perfect.

4-0 to the good guys today.

    Hail Hail!

  15. TheOriginalSadiesBhoy on

Must say I’m beginning to feel nervous about game. Too many distractions in the build up from the woes of RFC. Killie are capable of being a very good team on their day and I think Shiels is a very good manager.

However, as others have pointed out we have a lot of talent in our young team and if they turn up today, hopefully they will have the beating of Kilmarnock. We also have our own very good manager.

SadiesBhoy who is not over confident but very hopeful. Let’s hope it’s a good game and that everyone gets home safely.

  16. City To Face Celtic Next Season?

Celtic to come into English football?

According to The People today, Coventry City, if they were to be relegated could face Celtic next season in League One.

Celtic, according to the paper, have had preliminary talks about leaving Scottish football and taking up a place in League One.

It is understood that Celtic could replace any team in the Football League which went into liquidation. However, the Football League clubs would have to vote on whether to accept them but the feeling is that with Celtic having the support capable of filling every away end in the Football League, the clubs would not turn down this cash cow.
