Signed Roy Keane shirt, Hearts lay it on the line

407

We are going to see a lot of people in their true light through this.  Last night, Scott McGarvey, son of Celtic legend Frank, put his prized, signed, Roy Keane Republic of Ireland jersey on ebay to raise money for Glasgow South East Foodbank.  Their need, like so many others who cater for the poor, has never been greater.

Scott got the match worn shirt from Roy’s Ireland, and Frank’s Celtic, team-mate, Packie Bonner.  It is a rare and cherished piece of sporting memorabilia. Keep an eye on the auction here.  If you don’t have a wall for it, you can always move house.

Hearts “chairman’s statement”, (self-identifying is ‘so Edinburgh’)* issued by Ann Budge last night, was worthy of a read.  If you can look past the close-up of Mr Budge (she started it) occupying all real estate above the fold, she had an obligatory kick at The Sun for an earlier article bereft of the basic grasp of business, before getting onto the matter in hand.

Hearts, like almost every other club in Scotland and most in Europe, had no contingency for what she tells us all of football knows is a shutdown until “late July/August”.  It was either cut costs early or make people redundant eventually.  Earlier this week we heard from Aberdeen, those two are as ready for this crisis as anyone apart Celtic, but neither is in a good place.  At least Aberdeen know they will play top flight football next season.

Budge was first to move and put staff and players on 50% salary, with minimum wage protections.  Many others will follow.  Stenhousemuir are showing the way for clubs who know they can rely on fans to keep their club alive (yes, Stenhousmuir fans can do what others cannot).  On Wednesday, their chairman, wrote, “We’ve had a surge in people wanting to buy shares in the club.  Many have.  Welcome to The Warriors.  We’ve had people making donations, and lots more offers too.”

These are hard times, but many clubs with either be saved by the largess of their fans, or will perish in the summer.

Remember to check out the Roy Keane auction.

*sorry salt ‘n’ sauce friends.

Only 4 of involved including myself.

We had spent the night in the hospital with him but when it got to 4am we talked about what we should do, as we couldn’t stay awake for ever, so we made the decision to go home, try to get a couple of hours sleep and if a call came, we could return quickly.

3 of us were due to be working apart from my mum, so a wee nap was badly needed.

So when the call came, basically my sister dived in her car to get over to his bedside, her partner dived in his, to go pick my mum up and get her there asap.

I get that 2 of them were driving and setting phones up to hands free mode would have wasted time.

Ive also had my head round the fact that they reacted as quickly as they could and that you don’t think clearly at times like that and maybe they all assumed someone else would call me.

    Nobody did.

I got called moments after he passed away.

It took me 10 minutes to get there from my work.

When my phone went, i was told to get there asap, but i knew from his time of death and when that call was made, he had already slipped away.

It hurt like hell walking into that room, scanning it, seeing them all, but even more so knowing i should have been there earlier to at least grasp his hand 1 last time.

It wasn’t the time to get angry with any of them(im not like that anyway) and all i could do was give the a cuddle, so it got bottled up and it stayed that way, whether that was healthy or not.

Point i was trying to make about yourself was that its such an important time, so don’t miss it unless you are the 1 that makes that decision and you believe its the right thing to do.

Sorry for making this about me, when its about you and your time.

I hope you can be at peace with whatever you choose to do as you really are in an impossible situation and i don’t think you would be ‘wrong’, whatever choice you make.

I have an (as yet only entirely fledgling) idea.

What about a CQN Hoot / gig via t’internet??

Need to work out how to do it – if folks have webcam / microphones on their computers, we could set some sort of communal, web-based piss-up / live chat / sing-song thingy. Me / Wee BGFC happy supply the music.

Everybody in workplaces learning about Zoom / MS Teams / GoTo and other such techy stuff – as an alternative to face-to-face human interaction.

Worth looking into – or lead balloon idea?

Other (maybe easier) alternative is to get the wee man to post up some videos from the front-room – sure we could do that easy enough.

  11. Both my Mam & Dad died while I was on my way to see them, It happens to people all over the World.

As long as they knew you loved them throughout their life, that is the important thing.

The people I feel sorry for are those who are estranged from their parents or siblings and never get the chance to make their peace with them.

My only advice is to anyone who has fallen out with a close Family Member, it’s not worth it.

Pick up the phone, call around, send a text or a letter.

Even if your efforts are rejected ,Let them know you love them.

On that kind of sombre note, I’ll say goodnight.

In Ireland, Over 70s are confined to the house for 2 weeks beginning in 20 minutes. No shops, no walks. nothing,,

I reckon I’ll be boring the ass of ye for the next fortnight. Be warned.

  15. Just watched Storyville, the OJ Simpson biopic, 5x 1.5 hour episodes, on BBC Iplayer, truly brilliant television. This guy was a cross between Pele and Elvis in his pomp, huge emphasis of the race issue through the decades in the US.The court stuff is hard to believe, even now,and interviews all the lawyers and main players in it,looks like you will have plenty of time to watch it…..highly recommended

Norman’s maw F.C. is delighted to announce that “the stadium that John Brown played for”, Ibrox Park, has been appointed as Interim Chairman of Rangers International Football Club PLC (in receivership).

Furthermore, we can confirm the appointment of the late Lennie Bennett as Deputy Chairman of RIFC.

The funnyman had decades of experience as a successful comedian which is invaluable to Rangers, as we continue to work towards our 9th anniversary. We are forever debted to the Castlemilk born swivell-eyed loon’s financial sacking and support (🤣) , with Celtic fans fondly recalling his part in the “Nightmare before Christmas” takeover of 2015.

RIFC is pleased to confirm that the funding plan announced at the recent AGM; like a well-lubricated black mambo rubber dildo, is well advanced within the slut-hole-like hun psyche, with significant investment already received comfortably and further fantastical shaftments in place for the delectation of the staunchly gullible.

The elevation of Ibrox Park and Lenny Bennett is another significant pish-stained and drunken stumble backwards for Rangers FC and is a sign of financial distress from the club.

Furthermore, Deputy Chairman, Lenny Bennett commented on the outgoing Chairman, “I want to place on record our sincere thanks to Dave King for the important contribution he made as Chairman of Rangers FC.” Perhaps a sign of some simmering tensions during the change of guard at the distressed club, he reflected publicly on his observation that “as the cock-eyed Castlemilk-billionaire exited stage-left, a small tear was observed, trickling down his back.”

In closing, Ibrox Park highlighted the current crisis throughout the hun world, “like Gartnavel Royal, I know what an institution Rangers is and what it means to our loyal fans. However, football is secondary at the moment. It is vital that we follow the advice of the government and medical experts to beat this virus (Jelly&IceCream2).

Great to see you back, a lot of people missed your contribution here. Any sort of singalong gig would be great. Liam McGrandles done some from his house my son told me. I just saw Hozier on the late late show dedicate to one of Ireland’s health worker who lost their life today and to all the people who lost their lives to Covid 19 . The parting glass was lovely haunting and apt only 2 people in the studio and him ( tears running down my cheeks listening) I’m sure it will be on you tube tomorrow.HH

  20. Sorry to put this out there, a lot of people are going to die with this virus over the next few months, most people are in lock down so at what point do we let people out to go on about our normal lives, think about austerity and how that impacted our lives over the last ten years, noboady talks about suicide

  21. GFTB ! It’s obviously clear to everyone that we don’t see eye 2 eye !! Let’s hold an amnesty! Till we get9 in arrow! More important things now !! Anyway hope the mods let it go
