Sine die Murray for Rangers lying and cheating

953

“The appeal is dismissed.” With those words at the Supreme Court in London at 9:52 this morning, Rangers tax cheating was established as fact. The charlatans who manipulated Scottish football fans were shown to be the disgrace they are.

Rangers made unlawful payments, totalling many millions of pounds, to footballers, who, by the club’s own admission in court, they would have been unable to recruit if they had to pay tax and National Insurance contributions for.

They lied to HMRC.

They also hid documents from HMRC, which only came to light during a City of London Police raid on Ibrox.

They hid documents from the SPL and SFA, failing to honestly register dozens of players.

They cheated the tax man.

They cheated the welfare state, the NHS, the police, councils, schools. They cheated the Army and other services.

The SPL’s (now called Scottish Professional Football League) Commission into these matters must now be set aside. It was conducted on the assumption that Rangers acted legally. Lord Nimmo Smith was clear that his conclusions were predicated on this point.  A fresh commission is required, we cannot just allow the biggest cheats in British sporting history wander off into the distance.

The SFA has failed to call Sir David Murray to account, or the other directors of Rangers, who had explicit responsibility to ensure the club acted within the laws of the land and within the rules of football, both of which it failed to do.

Murray should be sine died. God knows, I cherish every moment Dave King controls things at Ibrox, but he was a director of Rangers with legal responsibility for its actions. They should all be censured.

    OK,a bit confused here.The BBC,as usual soft soaping the Huns with “No action “guff,as its a different Company.The BBC,maintain in all their hand outs,that it is “The same club”The idiots at the governing bodies come away with the “same club”crap,so where is the argument.The same club that won the trophies by cheating,now have to have them stripped.Nothing to do with any such nonsense as companiesThey are,we keep getting told,entirely different from each other.Its the football club who gained,its the football club that must suffer.Is this correct?.

    I think maybe I should get out more.

    Had we but world enough and time,

    This coyness, lady, were no crime.

    We would sit down, and think which way

    To walk, and pass our long love’s day.

    Thou by the Indian Ganges’ side

    Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide

    Of Humber would complain. I would

    Love you ten years before the flood,

    And you should, if you please, refuse

    Till the conversion of the Jews.

    My vegetable love should grow

    Vaster than empires and more slow;

    An hundred years should go to praise

    Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;

    Two hundred to adore each breast,

    But thirty thousand to the rest;

    An age at least to every part,

    And the last age should show your heart.

    For, lady, you deserve this state,

    Nor would I love at lower rate.

    But at my back I always hear

    Time’s wingèd chariot hurrying near;

    And yonder all before us lie

    Deserts of vast eternity.

    Thy beauty shall no more be found;

    Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound

    My echoing song; then worms shall try

    That long-preserved virginity,

    And your quaint honour turn to dust,

    And into ashes all my lust;

    The grave’s a fine and private place,

    But none, I think, do there embrace.

    Now therefore, while the youthful hue

    Sits on thy skin like morning dew,

    And while thy willing soul transpires

    At every pore with instant fires,

    Now let us sport us while we may,

    And now, like amorous birds of prey,

    Rather at once our time devour

    Than languish in his slow-chapped power.

    Let us roll all our strength and all

    Our sweetness up into one ball,

    And tear our pleasures with rough strife

    Through the iron gates of life:

    Thus, though we cannot make our sun

    Stand still, yet we will make him run.

    Once again I fail to see why this is a CFC issue, imo, it’s every club in Scotlands issue, and every fan of these clubs too, but the usual suspects have a go at PL, and the CFC board, its in they’r DNA and can’t help themselves, and then you’ve got the C T making the bulets, me? I’m just loving last night, and today’s results, both of which have nothing to do with CFC , but it’s fun, and I’m sure CFC and the board will be having a wee laugh too. Only my opinion, (whispers) and it’s allowed, so no name calling please :))

    +++++++++++++++++++

    Around the same time that Res12 was being raised the flaws in the LNS Commission were drawn to the attention of the SPFL Board from TSFM (maybe more on that series of blogs later). Eric Reilly was the SPFL Board member from Celtic at the time and copied in.

    However for the reasons you give i.e. it was an SPFL issue it was always going to be a matter of the appeal process running its course and the SPFL dealing with the consequences.

    It remains so although Celtic have more than enough information as a result of that earlier information plus more since to argue for a revisit in the interests of sporting integrity not to mention restoring some semblance of honesty to the governance of Scottish Football.

    With regard to Res12, now that both court cases are out of the way that ball can start rolling again, but with the benefit of a much wider understanding across the support spectrum (CSA and Affiliation) of what took place.

    The universe continues to unfold as it should (although last nights result in Luxembourg was a nice wee googly).

    I haven’t looked at it in a while, but I recall a draft of the 5WA floating around some time ago , which I did look at …. a few things come to mind … the version that was available on line was not signed, or even complete …. so the final version (if this was indeed a draft copy) may be different ….

    However, off the top of my head, I dont recall any provision that would preclude title stripping ( I think I would recall that…)

    what I do recall is a distinction between events during the CW regime and otherwise … had the sense that they would try to make him the fall guy (which, it turns out they did)… and that the idea would be to somehow argue that, if CW is liable, somehow the Club would not be ….

    Since CW was acquitted, I have been meaning to go back and look at this again … when I get around to doing so, I can let you know my thoughts, if you are interested.

    On Rule Breaking and Title Stripping

    As some of you may know I am also a STH at Spartans and have today been reminded of the case in 2011 when they were thrown out of the Scottish Cup retrospectively and lost out on a 3rd round tie against Partick Thistle because only one signature instead of two was used on a player’s contract. They also were fined £4,000 (suspended for 12 months) for the administrative error.

    My point is surely, thanks to today’s Supreme Court landmark ruling, by using an illegal tax avoidance scheme from 2001 to 2010 (Big Tax Case) and having previously been fined for registration infringements under the DOS scheme (Wee Tax Case) should there not be a proportionate punishment to fit the crime?

    According to BBC’s Chris McLaughlin ,a typical SMSM stooge, “It’s unlikely the football authorities will have much appetite to sanction another investigation …”.

    What he seems to forget is that it is not their decision as the executives of the SFA and SPFL were appointed by the respective boards and are answerable to them.

    In turn those boards are elected by the member clubs to represent them and are accountable to them accordingly at regular meetings where they take on board the duly voted for decisions of the members.

    The SFA run the Scottish Cup while the SPFL run the Premier League and the League Cup

    The current board of the SPFL (as of 20/7/16) is:

    Chief Executive Neil Doncaster, SPFL Chairman Ralph Topping and independent non-executive director Karyn McCluskey:

    • Ladbrokes Premiership representatives: Peter Lawwell (Celtic), Ann Budge (Heart of Midlothian) and Ian Maxwell (Partick Thistle)

    • Ladbrokes Championship representatives: Leeann Dempster (Hibernian) and Eric Drysdale (Raith Rovers)

    • Ladbrokes League 1 and League 2 representative: Ken Ferguson (Brechin City)

    It would be down to those board members to initiate any review so we know who we all need to lobby .

    This might be trickier than it would appear given the parochial nature of football fans at times but if there was ever a moment to put individual club/supporter interests/rivalries aside with the aim of coming together to force the creation of a fairer setup for our game, then surely this is THAT moment.

    The symbolic impact of fans of various clubs all working in unison for this common cause would be impossible to ignore.

    If Celtic were only dependent on income generated from domestic games that might be true but we are not.

    We get a lot more from playing in Europe and with our main competitor of old struggling to play in the EL that domestic model and so thinking behind it no longer applies.

    Sure Celtic will not want TRFC to disappear because of the impact that would have on other clubs whom we depend on for opposition to enable us to qualify for Europe, but all that is required is clubs are run according to sustainable income plans not dependent on UEFA money or loans.

    That is what should be put in place and if it cripples TRFC for a few more seasons until they realise sustainability is in their best interests as well, I think that would be an outcome I could live with.
