Sine die Murray for Rangers lying and cheating

953

“The appeal is dismissed.” With those words at the Supreme Court in London at 9:52 this morning, Rangers tax cheating was established as fact. The charlatans who manipulated Scottish football fans were shown to be the disgrace they are.

Rangers made unlawful payments, totalling many millions of pounds, to footballers, who, by the club’s own admission in court, they would have been unable to recruit if they had to pay tax and National Insurance contributions for.

They lied to HMRC.

They also hid documents from HMRC, which only came to light during a City of London Police raid on Ibrox.

They hid documents from the SPL and SFA, failing to honestly register dozens of players.

They cheated the tax man.

They cheated the welfare state, the NHS, the police, councils, schools. They cheated the Army and other services.

The SPL’s (now called Scottish Professional Football League) Commission into these matters must now be set aside. It was conducted on the assumption that Rangers acted legally. Lord Nimmo Smith was clear that his conclusions were predicated on this point.  A fresh commission is required, we cannot just allow the biggest cheats in British sporting history wander off into the distance.

The SFA has failed to call Sir David Murray to account, or the other directors of Rangers, who had explicit responsibility to ensure the club acted within the laws of the land and within the rules of football, both of which it failed to do.

Murray should be sine died. God knows, I cherish every moment Dave King controls things at Ibrox, but he was a director of Rangers with legal responsibility for its actions. They should all be censured.

  1. For the benefit of any others, like myself, who hadn`t seen it, here is the SFA Statement ( showing what we are up against) :

“Scottish FA statement on Supreme Court ruling

    Wednesday, 05 July 2017

The Board of the Scottish FA notes the judgment of the Supreme Court and wishes to clarify the implications of this final legal decision from a football regulatory perspective.

In light of the Inner House of the Court of Session decision, the Board of the Scottish FA sought external senior counsel opinion to ensure a robust and independent consideration of all implications of today’s judgment.

The Board received written advice from Senior Counsel, amplified when the QC attended a full meeting of the Board to discuss his conclusions.

Specifically, Senior Counsel was asked to anticipate whether a determination in favour of HMRC, as announced today, could imply that there had been a breach of the Scottish FA’s Disciplinary Rules as they applied at the time of the EBT payments.

The clear opinion of Senior Counsel is that there is a very limited chance of the Scottish FA succeeding in relation to any complaint regarding this matter and that, even if successful, any sanctions available to a Judicial Panel would also be limited in their scope.

Accordingly, having had time to consider the opinion from Senior Counsel, and having examined the judgment of the UK Supreme Court, the Board has determined that no further disciplinary action should be taken by the Scottish FA at this time.”

I suppose ` at this time ` offers some hope but not very much.

    Asking for a friend:

“are they RFC (IL) still the most successful club in the world?”

    No laughing at the back.

  3. Reading the Celtic statement it was an SPL review that was carried out in 2013,

i guess it would be the SPFL who would be responsible for any further review

    and not the SFA

  4. SFA statement…. do they really believe we are all morons …. what a load of Horse Manure…. so “No further action AT THIS TIME”. So are the inviting a complaint? Have they been advised by their Senior Counsel that they, the SFA, have a very limited chance of being successful and would be limited/ constrained by their own rules on the sanctions available to them for cheating….i e you canna just give the a paltry wee fine

That statement could mean anything you want it to!

  5. A question:

Was paying players EBT`s simply illegal or did it also make said players ineligible according to the SFA/SPFL Rules?

disciplinary action against whom?????????? the scottish FA are in the dock with rangers .

are all supporters in scotland going to let this go????????????????????

  7. TET even the threat of protests, not turning up and withdrawal of future season books is enough. But it has to feel real like it did in 2012.

Gordybhoy both the sfa and SPFL should take action. The sfa have rushed this out. All it says is we took advice and we aren’t telling what it said but we are doing nowt. If Celtic let them away with that then Celtic (and the rest of Scottish football p) are toast. The sfa are utterly corrupt and will do anything to avoid scrutiny. Celtic said the Scottish authorities should take action. The sfa have said naw. Ok Celtic your move. We are watching.

  8. On reading that again have they missed out the bit because they are a new club, and they cannot punish the dead.

  9. From a commercial point of view the season books and packages are mostly all now sold and by the time they come up for renewal people will have forgotten about this, or at least won’t be so bothered as to consider cancelling.

So best thing is to say and do nowt.

    That’s the commercially expedient reality.

    Business is business.

  10. Glad to see comments about supporters of various clubs coming together to insist on radical change at sfa and spfl. Today is the day we decide to change and face the future or stay on our knees and watch steady decline.

Getting out of the Scottish league is not the answer. We are a Scottish team. We need ambitious, smart and unbiased administrators and together, across clubs, we have the power to do it.

At last we have the evidence.

  11. NA2

You know as well as anyone that the powers, the clubs just want this to go away.

Tell you what, if there is title stripping and heads are rolled, I will chop my bollix off and eat them

    HH

  12. Neganon,

as i posted earlier i feel the board should be given a reasonable amount of tme over this,

in my opinion that is until the SPFL give their decision on what they intend doing,

if it is the same as the SFA and Celtic do nothing then the game is indeed a bogey,

i hope and i trust that Celtic follow every avenue available to them over this

  13. TET,

if need be my mate sells a lovely salt and pepper seasoning that will make the afore mentioned balls a bit more palatable ;-)))

  14. “The clear opinion of Senior Counsel is that there is a very limited chance of the Scottish FA succeeding in relation to any complaint regarding this matter and that, even if successful, any sanctions available to a Judicial Panel would also be limited in their scope.”

WTF is that supposed to mean:))

We can’t apply our own rules of registration..

    Deary me, Senior Counsul…wooooooo scary…

    Whit a load of shite…

Are you able to provide an answer to my question at 5:22 ?

Just wanted to clarify your position.

Does it have to be both title stripping and the rolling of heads or it is one bollock per positive outcome? :-)

Was paying players EBT`s simply illegal or did it also make said players ineligible according to the SFA/SPFL Rules?

    =====

I believe the main issue is the side letters were not declared to the SFA and that the EBT’S were illegally administered for tax purposes, hence the sporting advantage. There is also the wee tax case for which RFC have admitted liability but have somehow escaped censure.

  18. embramike supporting Res 12 on

Keep up the pressure on the SFA bhoys anyway you can – email, letter, Facebook, twitter as in …

So @spartansfc thrown out of Cup retrospectively for 1 signature instead of 2 on contract but it’s ok to run an illegal tax avoidance scheme?

  19. Bateen Bhoy ***STRIP THE TITLES*** on

Time for some co-operation with supporters of other clubs, i would suggest.

I’d be quite happy to liaise with any Supporters Groups in Aberdeen that express an interest.

Not sure what else i can do, but happy to play an active part in whatever course of action Celtic Supporters decide to take.

  20. HOT SMOKED on 5TH JULY 2017 5:37 PM

    I think there’s two issues.

    1. The contracts weren’t disclosed to the SFA. People (including Lord Hodge) are saying the contracts were disclosed, it’s just the side letters that were hidden. The point is there’s one contract consisting of the disclosed document and the hidden document. One without the other is not the contract.

    2. Depending on how you construe it the players were being paid by a third party.

I suspect that on both points the players were ineligible.

  21. A typical knee jerk reaction from an SFA click bait, relax ffs, it’s the dumbest statement you’ll ever see, they have left themselves open to get reamed, cooler heads are needed here, cam doon ffs.

  22. Margaret McGill on

Let me translate both the Celtic and the SFA’s statement fur yeez:

Celtic PLC: We’re no daein anything nothing to do with us. It’s the footballing authorities in Scotland’s problem. What about that treble eh? get yer fishul ST’s here.

SFA: Dont care who said anything. We’re no daein anything either. If we are forced to we will just change the rules and back date them to 1690 if you like.

    Next?

  23. TTR and ernie

    Thank you both

Have any of them released statements?

    Cant be bothered searching.

  25. Re: SFA Board’s statement

Isn’t it convenient how this self same Board can pick and choose when it can exercise discretion in the application of its rules?

I dearly, dearly hope that enough of our clubs and fans are prepared to gird their loins, to tell our football authorities we won’t stand for any more of this shoite …

Fo what `crime` was the £250,000 fine imposed by LNS a punishment ?

    ——

That was for improperly registering the players with the SFA, you know the thing that gets other teams like Spartans and Dundee United the book thrown at them.

  27. iPaddy McCourt on

Lance the boil. Strip the titles. Nothing less is acceptable.

If there is to be a fund set up by fans of the cheated clubs to take matters into our own hands and commence legal action, count me in.

  28. thetimreaper on

Unfortunately the £250k fine wasn’t quite enough to get Campbell Ogilvie 3 nights out in Glasgow.

  29. Thunder Road on

Not a hope in hell that the SFA will strip titles.

They will be dead men walking if they do.

Just when you think the day can’t get any funnier.

    Flaky pastry makes an appearance.

My guess, and that’s all it is, in 2 years time we will be awaiting the outcome on some review or another with no action having been taken against the Huns.

Leadership and concerted action is required here.

Pity things weren’t organised by supporters beforehand. Hot air angst will blow away and that’s what they’ll do, stymie, prevaricate.

    Action is needed.
