Small investors in football clubs cannot overpay

1059

Really delighted at the flow of sentiment towards Billy McNeill and the launch of the new frontage of Celtic Park tomorrow.  The place is beginning to look like a 21st Century venue, now we need the shops, restaurants and bars to bring the match-day experience alive.

Were you one of the fans who put £620 (or more) into Celtic shares in 1994?  Around 10,000 did, raising an initial total of around £10m from small investors alone.  It wasn’t an investment, none of us wanted or expected the money back, it was our contribution to Celtic at a time of critical need.

Many small investor-Rangers fans did the same when Newco went to market in December 2012, although one high-profile investor, who coughed up £500k, has asked Dave King to buy him out.

The stark reality facing these shareholders is that if King’s path is followed to a logical conclusion the club will be run into the ground, destroying their investments along with everything else.  I have some sympathy for their position.

King is not interested in buying control of the club, even at the discounted price shares are now available at.  He emailed the £500k investor “Why should any new investor bail out existing investors because they made mistakes in overpaying for their shares. The club needs money not complaining shareholders”.

The price paid by small investors was perhaps the most irrelevant figure to them, they paid the gross figure they could afford, irrespective of price.  The value of the share was irrelevant so to accuse them of making a mistake by overpaying is like criticising the month of March for being too purple.

How the small shareholders feel about this behaviour will not determine what actions the Newco board takes, that will be come down to how easily manipulated people like the Easdales, Mike Ashley and Laxey Partners are.  My information is they are not easily manipulated in the slightest.

How Police Scotland view Celtic fans, very grateful to those at FAC for taking the protest over the OB bill to the SNP conference, it is well over due for independant management teams to oversee how police resources are deployed

FAC goes to SNP conference, gets intimidated and one FACer complains to the Police Service of Scotland!

Following the events of 12th April which are detailed in an earlier post, I have decided, with the backing of FAC, to formally complain to the Police Service of Scotland about what happened to us that day. I have also written to my MSP to complain and I would encourage others who were there that day to do likewise. One of the local supporters has also complained formally about his treatment that day and we hope to bring you updates about the resolution of that complaint.

We also thought it would be useful to post updates of the process so that people who are considering complaining to the Police can see how the process works and hopefully encourage people to make complaints and keep the system as clean as it possibly can be.

There are a number of ways you can go about this and they are detailed in a helpful booklet produced by the Police themselves and which can be found at:

    http://www.scotland.police.uk/assets/pdf/138327/147514/complaints-about-the-police-guide?view=Standard

I decided to make my initial contact through the following Contact link on the PSS site:

    http://www.scotland.police.uk/assets/pdf/138327/147514/complaints-about-the-police-guide?view=Standard

I gave them the details they needed and typed in the substance of my complaint, which was:

I would like to lodge a complaint against the PSS for the following reason:

    1. A coach departing from George Square, Glasgow and collecting other passengers on Edinburgh Road, Baillieston on which I was travelling on 12th April 2014 which was bound for Aberdeen to protest outside of the SNP Spring Conference was subject to surveillance by an unmarked police car for no good reason. This was intimidating, unnecessary and a breach of my right of assembly.

    2. On arrival in Aberdeen I, and the other 18 members of our protest group, were issued with a Section 12 Notice under the Public Order Act. This was unwarranted, disproportionate, intimidating, excessive, unnecessary and a breach of my right of assembly and an attempt to prevent us from excercising our rights to peacefully protest. This action also potentially led to a slur on my character as onlookers could reasonably think that I was a threat to public order when that is not the case and there is no evidence to suggest that it is the case.

    3. A police car positioned itself directly in front of our coach as we left the conference area and the officer stated that he had been given instructions to escort us out of the city of Aberdeen. Despite our objection, the car did escort us for a short distance. This was unwarranted, intimidating, unnecessary, a waste of public resources, and an attempt to further intimidate me (and others) and discourage us from exercising our right of peaceful assembly, freedom of speech and freedom to protest peacefully.

  6. Top of the morning to you all from a fair, grey and pleasant day in Fife.

20 years ago I answered the call to help the club. I did the £1324? share issue which I couldn’t afford at the time and which my accountant (a big Celtic fan) said would not be an investment he would advise on a commercial basis (no football share issue had succeeded at that point), but which he could understand as an emotional issue.

I have since bought more when the call came and have handed all of them over to my son who has decreed that his son will inherit.

That was the way it happened with many Celts. We all stood to gain what Fergus gained in terms of percentage profit if we had sold our shares when he sold his.

He did what he said he would do and sold up after 5 years. Fergus da man in my book. A real Ronseal character.

The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. 20 years eh. Seems like only yesterday.

Hope for a good win today as the last two times Aberdeen have visited they ran us ragged. Yes even in the 3-1 game we were very lucky.

Stokes and Griffiths to lift the gloom.

Lionroars- the first thing they will do it try to intimidate you- a phone call to arrange for a very visible police visit to your home- or even just an unannounced very visible police visit to your home- under the guise of collecting information but clearly likely to prevent people from taking complaints further

I was very disappointed in Liverpool on Sunday against Chelsea

I thought they got schooled by a fairly average Chelsea outfit

Without Suarez and Gerrard they are a moderate team ….both are excellent players ..however their defence is loose , their goalkeeper is not in particularly good form and they score little from midfield ( excluding pens )

    Good Morning,

Last night I put up a wee link to a wee story I had written which was time significant in that the start of May plays a part in the story.

It is a lover’s tale that goes from The Cote D’Azur to The Dear Green Place.

On a separate note I see some mention of Rolando Ugolini stemming from last nights Quiz ( Congratulations Eddie– are you still doing a lap of honour around the living room? ).

Anyway, I wrote a wee piece on Ugolini having heard about him from my dad. Amazingly, I then learned from friends of mine that they had bumped into the man himself whilst holidaying in Lucca.

How they came to meet with him, and what attracted an elderly Italian man to a Glasgow family of mixed Irish and Indian heritage can be found here.
