Small investors in football clubs cannot overpay

1059

Really delighted at the flow of sentiment towards Billy McNeill and the launch of the new frontage of Celtic Park tomorrow.  The place is beginning to look like a 21st Century venue, now we need the shops, restaurants and bars to bring the match-day experience alive.

Were you one of the fans who put £620 (or more) into Celtic shares in 1994?  Around 10,000 did, raising an initial total of around £10m from small investors alone.  It wasn’t an investment, none of us wanted or expected the money back, it was our contribution to Celtic at a time of critical need.

Many small investor-Rangers fans did the same when Newco went to market in December 2012, although one high-profile investor, who coughed up £500k, has asked Dave King to buy him out.

The stark reality facing these shareholders is that if King’s path is followed to a logical conclusion the club will be run into the ground, destroying their investments along with everything else.  I have some sympathy for their position.

King is not interested in buying control of the club, even at the discounted price shares are now available at.  He emailed the £500k investor “Why should any new investor bail out existing investors because they made mistakes in overpaying for their shares. The club needs money not complaining shareholders”.

The price paid by small investors was perhaps the most irrelevant figure to them, they paid the gross figure they could afford, irrespective of price.  The value of the share was irrelevant so to accuse them of making a mistake by overpaying is like criticising the month of March for being too purple.

How the small shareholders feel about this behaviour will not determine what actions the Newco board takes, that will be come down to how easily manipulated people like the Easdales, Mike Ashley and Laxey Partners are.  My information is they are not easily manipulated in the slightest.

  1. Afternoon, for what its worth i would keep James , and play him in the Kris Commons role top of the midfield diamond. He has the pace and directness to excel in that role especially in Europe where Kris’s lack of pace makes him less effective.

He is still young and has a lot to learn about ‘being a good team mate ‘ as Gordon S would say but he has his best years ahead of him hopefully in the hoops.

  2. On young James, I don’t get it. Yes he is young and yes he has scored and assisted with some important goals. There is of course his injuries.

I honestly do not think he will be a main stay for years to come but hey, I have never played or coached.

I do wish him every success and dearly hope he proves me wrong.

He has shown flashes but not consistent for me.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

I have carried out a survey and 89% of people seeking to sell Jamsie would vote yes whilst 74% of people who would keep him would vote no!

Re paving stone, you should have received notification of where your stone was laid. I’ve had one for about 2 years now and was told that it was being lifted during the redevelopment , I can only assume it has been relaid close to its original position near Jinky. Hope this helps.

On form Bourne. Assume you’ve sorted the gazebo with a prime view of the Celtic Way.

Just passed Paradise and they’re still working flat out on the final touches for the new Gazebo walkway.

Ignoring the obvious about comparative talent, Sutton came to Celtic aged 27, 2 years before his peak.

Janko is 30, and appears to be (on all available evidence) 2 years beyond his peak.

While I absolutely accept that we need to go look, get curious, we also need to ground ourselves in a little reality.

Janko is not a Celtic prospect.

    ===================================

I think you are giving too much weight to the idea of a players ‘peak’ tbh.

Chris Sutton may have been coming into his peak when he joined us, but his BEST season with us was actually his FOURTH season, when he was 31, in which he scored 28 goals in all competitions. He followed that up with 16 the following season.

Not saying Janko should be signed but those writing him off for the sole reason that he is 30 have their head in the sand.

Yes we have a strategy to sign young with resale potential BUT it would be folly not to be flexible IF the opportunity arose – those writing off Janko SOLELY because of his age have learnt nothing.

We need a big striker if the manager does not fancy Balde for the long run.

  9. On the assumption that we can conclude that the courts are now closed for the long weekend then if Sevco go into administration then the points deduction will now be against next season.

I read the Sammi interview from the Celtic View, couldn’t bring himself, to actually say he was leaving.

Would be great to see Callum McGregor given a chance next season although there was a suggestion he will be loaned out again.

If he took the place of Kayal in the squad with the promise of regular game time to prove himself I think a lot of Celtic fans would be happy with that.

    Bsr,

I don’t think it’s any real tragedy if he leaves. Been a long time since he was ouzoing with confidence.

Lot of debate about wee Jamesie. While he has never been a favourite of mine, he seems to have improved with each year of his stay at Celtic. If Forrest has an injury free year (unlikely), we may yet see the best of him.

On that subject, does anyone know if he’s fit for tomorrow’s game?

If we are to loan callum or others out then we need to do it with a team that will be challaging -notts county, shrewsbury and coventry are imo poor choices – 3rd tier of english league , surely we can do better.

Last week when I was, foolishly, watching the Liverpool v Chelski game ( yer a bit quiet this week Ryecatcher) I noticed on the flashing adverts that Liverpool have an official Ice Cream supplier ( Baskin Robins I believe).

Should we get an official Ice Cream and Jelly supplier and what flavours should we have?
