Solid accounts figures from Celtic despite £7m

1027

Celtic released accounts today for the year ending 30 June 2012, a season in which they won the league and exited Europe at the Europa League group stage.  Turnover was down less than £1m at £51.34m but bank debt rose £2m to £2.77m despite a £7.37m loss (the difference between the increase in bank debt and the trading loss is due to the amortisation of player registrations, which hits the accounts evenly over the period of a player’s contract).

Football and stadium income dropped by £2m and merchandising dropped by £1m while multimedia and other commercial income rose almost £2m.  Football and stadium operating costs rose by over £2m.  The drop in stadium revenue and corresponding rise in costs are indicative of the wider economic pressures.  Inflation is affecting Celtic’s costs and Celtic fans’ ability to spend with the club.

With debt sitting at around 5% of turnover and a significant uplift in income this season assured, the club is in remarkably rude health this far into an economic downturn.  Champions League revenue this season should have a transformational effect on how Celtic can forward plan, potentially reversing that £7m loss.

Economic headwinds are likely to supress key ticket and merchandise revenue for the foreseeable future but Champions League revenues seem immune from these challenges.  The primary plan for this season must be to qualify for the group stage of Europe’s top competition next season. Get there and we can continue to operate with the existing cost structures (and more) and still pay our taxes!

Guys Had to go into work early last night and decided to listen to clyde scoreboard or whatever its called,, I can honestly say that if that is supposed to be expert opinion or an insight into the game, dearie me, that guy Gordon Daizell {do not know if that is correct spelling } is an absolute fool, he said that corruption was widespread in football, going onto say that he himself used to get paid his wage every week and then he would get a wee something at Christmas on the side so to speak , absolute clown., never again

    +++++

    Dear Hector,

I hope this letter finds you well.

Pleasantries aside, would it be possible for you to have a quick check against your PAYE records for a Mr Gordhun Deeyell, formerly a footballer with Raith Rovers and Third Lanark. Specifically, would it be possible for you to check any anomalies around the numerous Christmas periods when he plied his trade as a footballer – I’m thinking higher wages with additional tax and NIC contributions.

I’m trusting that should you find no anomalies and no additional payments of NIC/PAYE that you’ll then investigate the comments attributed to him in the attached extract.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Mac, who is Dirty.

Other than that open goal, I would expect that he does indeed speak the truth – he did, after all, spend 4 years at der orkendome.

The girlfriend might prove to be a ship in the night but your son will be able to tell his grandchildren that he saw Javier Pastore when he was at PSG .

A fabulous footballer . 40 million euros worth of sublime talent .

As for the stadium —–avoid the Auteil section . [ assuming your son doesn’t feel comfortable with a Hitler Youth rally kind of of vibe.]

  5. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

I didn’t log on last night after the hun pumping as I expected the site to be down and the patter to be brilliant and I couldn’t afford a late night.

One out of two is no bad.

I’d love to see us win 3-0 tonight, however, feel that might just be beyond us with some big players missing at this time.

I know Benfica do not travel well, particularily to Celtic Park, but they look a decent side.

Reports suggest they do not defend too well so I would play one of the new boys up front to give us a bit of height and strength. I would play him as a traditional centre forward, not wide left or right.

We cannot afford to sit back and let Benfica come at us so we need to press them, the higher up the pitch the better.

Commons and/or Forrest, a difficult one.

Forrest is more direct, but a bit inconsistent so far this season. Commons has done better with goals and assists.

Can’t see them both starting tonight, but…..who’d be a fitba manager?

Whoever is selected will need to put in a good shift, no , a very good shift.

So, any win would be fantastic.

1-0 or 6-5, it disney matter as long as we win.

    C’MON THE CELTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. Philbhoy - It's just the beginning! on

One million Euro’s for a win.

    Half a million Euro’s for a draw.

I know which one I want.

  7. Right awe naw – you are at it again too

BTW well done to PL for his fightback in the Scotsman today

  8. Who were the three sevconians at the bog of eternal stench last night??

One of them looked like he was a Chuck Green fan, the other looked like he didn’t trust him, and the third one thought he was the janny.

  9. gordybhoy64

The bold Chuckie was in Geneva last week (don’t you know) where he found the other 200 clubs laughing at Scottish fitba.

He didn’t explain why though – just that this was a clear case of victimisation.

  10. With Benfica 3 top players down, if we can beat them 3-0 with Misser, Gravesen and Pearo, we can do so again with this current crop.

Actually made me feel there are journalists in the UK who want to report the truth!

I am glad he did it and without linking the subject matter there with anything else would like to see more establishment types challenged like that, particularly in Scotland

  16. Celtic can win tonight. I’m fairly confident of a 2-1. I think we will miss Sammi but nevertheless I still think we’ll win.

My only reservation is young Forrest. He was totally dire on Sat. He really needs to give himself a shake. All this throwing his arms up every time he wants a foul has to stop. He really has to knuckle down and realise he still has a lot of work to do to improve his overall game. Maybe have Lustig at RB with Matthews in front of him and if we need to then bring Forrest on? Like wise on the left: with Izzy at LB and Charlie in front of him? Keep it solid on the flanks then the guys through the middle can concentrate on doing their job.

Not confident about tonight at all.

  19. Good afternoon Celts,

a victory tonight, will be the springboard to better results on the road in CL,well done to PL for slapping down the paranoia/sharesalesmanship.anyone of you bookie types give me odds on a Celtic/Donegal on sunday double?

  20. The webfootedsoldiers over at Orcdom are saying Ally is not a capable manager- neither to be trusted at amateur level or any other level for that matter- yet they are all unanimous that he is a “great ambassador of the club”.

He is a worse ambassador for the club than he is a manager in my opinion.

His Peckinpah impression of a lynchmob ringleader a few months ago was one of the worst PR disaster in der huns recent history.

  21. Struggled to eat my lunch as have serious PMT(Pre Match Tension).

  24. Interesting comments from Peter Lawwell in the Scotsman today.

Compare and contrast Peter’s charming professionalism with the deranged conspiracy theories of Charlie Green, or Ally McCoist repeatedly feeling compelled to tell the world how baffled he is by matters that are none of his business.

It’s like comparing Warren Buffett with Steptoe and Son.

As we know, Ally doesn’t do walking away from buffets. (thumbsup)

  25. Neil canamalar Lennon hunskelper extrordinaire on

And if young Forrest wants to start a mexican wave, well I’m up for it.

So when he throws his hand up in the air, I will be taking my lead from him,

I think this might be more fun that moaning at him :o)

  26. Benefica are a very good side. There are a much better team than the ones we have faced in the past.

Any kind of result against them would do me.

Samaras is a big miss, he has been laying on the goals and is a great out ball.

Hoping more than I am expecting…fingers crossed for a special night HH

  27. Catching Up but is that another world record for Zombie FC

Knocked out of 5 different cup competitions in 12 months ?

Struggled to find match report because surprisingly CL has taken

precedent over ramsden cup this morning.

Did see that huns have missed out on a glamour tie with one of the following Cowdenbeath Arbroath or Partick Thistle.

  28. I’m sure that Benfica are a very good side. Better than the others we have met in the past?? The recent past maybe. Not the ones we met in the 60s, when they were among the best teams in the world. Purists still rejoice in Eusbeio and Torres.

They have one bid advantage over us: they seem to be able to play any Brazilian they fancy. I wouldn’t be surprised if they win tonight. Even if they do, the atmosphere will still be one to savour.
