Some reasons why Celtic will drop a lot of points

960

I was surprised Ronny Deila thought immediately after the game that Dedryck Boyata’s red card was valid, from the angle behind the goal it looked a well-time tackle, but let’s deal with the manager’s complaint against the player, who put a challenge in when wrong side of the attacker.

We’ve see three Celtic central defenders in this position in recent weeks: Efe against Ross County, Erik against Inverness and Dedryck last night. Erik was outpaced by Jordan Roberts but instead of risking a challenge from behind his opponent, he stayed on his feet and forced Roberts to shoot under pressure. Efe clumsily barged into his opponent and Dedryck went to ground.

All three got their starting positions wrong, which could have cost a goal, but Ambrose and Boyata compounded the problem by attempting a recovery, also from a wrong position. Sviatchenko chose to put pressure on the player and leave matters up to his goalkeeper. Erik made the right decision, Efe and Dedryck made wrong decisions.

And before Erik relaxes in the glow of praise, it was his unnecessary barge into an opponent which conceded the foul which led to the corner kick Accies equalised through. Don’t give away stupid fouls and you don’t allow opponents to fire the ball into your box.

And yes, the goal we lost came from a corner kick (I’m assuming those who were animated earlier in the season about zonal marking somehow overlook the same lack of ball-winning skills from the same players now we’re marking man-for-man). I’ve never known a team to lose so many goals from corners. We have a collection of players who cannot follow the flight of a football when launched into their box from a corner.

I know there’s a belief that you cannot practice penalty kicks, as the pressure of hitting them during a match changes everything. This is nonsense. Our poor penalty conversion rate over the last five or six years has cost us trophies. Ironically, John Collins has the best penalty conversion rate of any player in Celtic history (who’s taken more than 5).  You would think he’d be able to sort this.

Poor technique is a consequence of poor preparation.

When Leigh Griffiths opened the scoring from the penalty spot it came as a great relief, as until then we were unable to create a genuine chance. A big part of the job at Celtic is breaking down packed defences away from home. There are largely two ways to achieve this:

1. Master the act of quick and precise passing

2. Have target men and wide players who are excellent at crossing the ball.

If we don’t have either play in our locker we’re going to drop a lot of points.

  1. I can give at least five reasons we will drop points.

    1. We do not have a competent manager.

    2. We do not have a manager who has any skills whatsoever.

    3. We do mot have a manager who has the slightest ability

    4. We do not have a manager who has a clue.

    5. We do not have a manager.

Some of the posts on here since yesterday are positively Hunnish in the language used against our current manager. I guess a few are scunnered that we are six points ahead and on the way to five in a row, and I thought only those who were against us would have been upset about that. Dobbers of all colours, get it up ye. </B

    Hail Hail

Instead of the big-bad-anti-Celtic-media have got it in for us…blah, blah, blah….

…why don’t we just stick it right up the SMSM ?

    Know why ?

Coz, when the huns were kiddin-on they were died…Celtic’s hierarchy pulled the hand-brake on.

Instead of making it clear that when we became detached from each other that, we would be blazing off into the sunset….we had PL telling us that we were a stand alone club.

    Aye….

The downsizing that began with the return of Lawwell in 2004, was switched into overdrive with, a project without a pair of cojones being brought in to the Celtic dug-out….he won the league in Norway but, after being lined-up as an assistant to Neil or, whoever was next after Neil….the ba was on the slates as, Neil bolted despite, being confidentiality-claused into a statement which amounted to a chocolate tea-pot.

Roy Keane was approached to take over but, when he saw the snakes & ladders games that go on inside CP….he ran for the hills.

What did Roy Keane see ?

Whatever it was, it has continued to empty the seats inside Celtic Park and, Owen….the seats ‘are’ empty, no matter how many smokescreens that are thrown up by Celtic fans in denial making out that it is just the imagination of the SMSM.

The ex-Celts that I have touted for the job are, more in vogue with the Cellic than Ronny will ever be.

The ex-Celts will not get a look-in coz, Lawwell knows that they’ll have his number.

Lawwell is destroying Celtic because, the Celtic support are decimated….not a sign of rebellion from any corner of the Celtic support and yet, Lawwell who is ‘thee’ Celtic power-base as the board are mere tokens on the paper-work aligned to the deeds of Celtic Park….it is said that, Rangers are died so, how does that tally when – ibrokes is, more or less full yet, Celtic Park is verging on being more or less empty ?

The biggest sporting scandal in history, is happening right under our noses and, Celtic’s innocent supporters will again….be the main victims.

The Celtic support’s rebellious DNA….died when the Jungle was flattened.

    So, so sad…….

    ….bed time zzzzzzz……

  9. Good morning everybody from a frosty but beautiful looking clear skied, bright and dry East Kilbride. Another round of fixtures and we remain 6 points clear. Here we go, 5 in a row ;-)

Not a great fight but wee Jay will be happy as Carl Frampton won on points as big Fraser shows why it’s a no win situation being a keeper

Morning Bhoys I would imagine if any other club in Scotland were top of the SPL and 6 points clear at this time in the season there supporters would be delighted. However we Celtic supporters are down at the mouth and we see all sorts of problems at our club maybe we have had to much success over the last ten years or so and it has lost its mojo for us who knows ? H.H.

Oh aye! And where’s the clowns thay want Stubbs as manager?

There’s about much chance of him being the next Celtic manager as there is of some pest from the CT being on the Celtic Board, Dundee on wed. And hopefully nine points clear, onwards and up Hail Hail.

    Lurking Huns GIRFUYs

  17. Morning all.

It’s 2 days now since the HA game and I find I am still disgusted at the treatment meted out to our players, especially young Tierney, and going relatively unpunished by the disgraceful MiB. That is symptomatic of the lack of protection afforded to them in the last 3 league games. What makes me sick is the thought that this is only the beginning. It is going to get a lot worse and not just until the end of the season. Next season, with the deid team in the same league, it will be awful.

Scotland- and I don’t just mean the Establishment- have no regard for us. That is why the football authorities can do what they like with us. I bet there has been no media campaign orchestrated against Thompson, or the others, who have openly cheated us. We know that any referee who has made a decision which has benefited us has his card marked. Has there ever been one punished for his cheating us? Not that I’m aware of. Instead, we are accused of being paranoid.

We need to get well out of this backwater.

  18. It;’s not only people who don’t go to games who are sick, fed up with the turgid crap which we are being served or with a manager who talks a good game (some of you will recognise that) but doesn’t deliver.

People like me who never miss a home game have had enough of our management team’s lack inability to impose any sort of system or flair on the team and their seeming inability to change when things aren’t working. Not to mention that we, apparently, can’t identify and sign a proper defender or forward or…the list is getting longer and longer.

Ronny is well out of his depth and Lawwell and the board are responsible for that. Hanging Boyata out to dry is just further proof, if we needed it. I would have appealed it but we can’t now because of Ronny’s stupid and ill informed comments. He makes craigan’s bizarre rule bending seem acceptable.

Those who attack the critics, we’re six point clear, should have their own reality check. We’re in a one horse race and the very least we can expect, without being arrogant, with our resources, is to being winning with a bit of style not the disjointed crap we see at the moment. Six points clear because Aberdeen keep blowing it remember.

    See you on Tuesday night.

  19. I see britains best full back Tavairner is bumping his gums this morning about winning the SC and playing in Europe, nothing about one small detail in the article, a license? It is an embaressing read, but funny. But I’m not posting it. Made me sick.
