Some sympathy for Stewart Robertson

728

I know lockdown is causing much anxiety, but can you imagine being in Newco chief exec Stewart Robertson’s shoes these days?  He must have known the gig was up when he decided not to release his ‘evidence’ before clubs were able to send proxy vote to block his EGM resolution.

I’m sure he hoped the SPFL would announce they have enough votes in the bag, allowing him to flounce off, instead of substantiating his claim, but those he wanted sacked at the League will want to see this play out as much as the rest of us.

He even has Graeme Spiers calling him out as the weakest man he’s met in football.  For a man in his position, “weak” is the most damning word, it will resonate with those whose support he relies on.  And let’s not forget, he has tens of millions to find to continue trading though next season, by comparison, this SPFL mess is like a July Walk on the Queen’s highway.

From what I hear, Stewart is a decent bloke, one made for less complex times.  His strings are almost certainly being pulled by some sinister Geppetto character.  If he fails to produce his ‘evidence’, this afternoon’s Premiership club meeting will be an excruciating, if not humiliating, affair.  It will all be over soon, Stewart; you hang in there.

I’m sure we would all like to congratulate PSG on winning the ninth title in their history and seventh in eight years yesterday, apart from that Neymar character, of course.  The story for Scottish football in how the French league finished is the third place finish of Rennes – who could only manage a fourth place finish in the Europa League group Celtic topped.

While we are not in PSG’s class, we more than held our own against a French and Italian sides in the Europa League this season.  Like Celtic, Rennes will enter the Champions League qualification round next season.

  1. A sad, sad day on the blog.

I remember Minx posting here from way, way back. The posts were always good natured and that appears to reflect the person, from what is being written here today

Sincere condolences to HT and all your extended families.

    RIP Minx.

    Hail Hail.

  4. Dear Chris

Blantyretim sent me sad news about Helen. I keep thinking of you. If there were words that can comfort you and soothe pain you feel after that huge loss. I know there are none. When I’m thinking about Helen I see woman who was first to help others. I remember the pictures of Minx1888 at an auction with a microphone and comment kind of “who can speak with more passion and better?” I remember her beautiful smile when we met few years ago at the time when I was searching for new opportunities and you offered me a flat to live in.Good people never speak to much of themselves. This is why I mention that offer. Not much I can do but I will say a Rosary with intention to God that Helen will rest in eternal peace and you and all who are close find strength to go through hard times.

Chris, just came on and shocked to read about the sad news of Helen’s passing. No words at this time will be of comfort to you in the face of such a loss. I’m sure everyone on CQN will be thinking of you and your family at this sad time. Prayers will be offered up for Helen (RIP).

  6. I hope Hamiltontim can take some small comfort from today’s outpouring of respect, love and tributes to his lovely wife on CQN .

Other social media platforms have also been engulfed with tributes .

I see now B Johnson is being conveyed as a hero.. The twat.

Have we got our well deserved and earned 9th title yet?

Incredible some of the guff the Scottish msm have came out with and I see one rag had 2 bigots tuppence worth yesterday (D Findlay and Fat Andy Golam)

Good on big Stubbs yesterday pointing out about no asterisk beside our 9th title as Rankers cheated for years before going bust and they should have Asterisks beside those titles if we get one with ours.

9 IAR is 9IAR to me we have been the better team and are way out in front, when we get the title it will be deserved and won fairly.

  12. I woke this morning, still saddened by Hamilton Tim’s news but also with a feeling that yesterday CQN was suffused with the spirit of its early days, where there was, imo, a genuine concern for each other. So many of those who made it such have disappeared over the years but many reappeared yesterday. Oh that they would continue.

Prestonpans Bhoy – I actually watched Dundee 2 Hearts 0 last night.

Hadn’t seen it in ages. Incredible stuff.

My key memories of that season …

Love Street on the last day of course. The reaction of the fans coming out of Ibrox as we converged on the M8 was priceless.

    But also …

Hearts first game of their long unbeaten run was against us at CP. We hammered them but they sneaked a 0-1 victory.

Two games later going on an awful run of three defeats with a cumulative 1-10 scoreline.

The last of these was was at Ibrox. My friends and I were in the old enclosure and were treated to spit, coins, pie and Bovril from above.

The first game in the sequence of eight successive victories which, ultimately, won us the league.

Love Street again, the Maestro with a last minute winner. I also gained a new friend that day – a beautiful animal called West Tip who I would “each way” over the next three years to great effect.

I was a white knuckle ride. I have to admit to wavering faith when Hearts visited Dundee United (themselves genuine title contenders until the last month of the season) – and won 3-0 !

Would love to hear others’ recollections?

    Hail hail

  23. Hi Jim,

Golf courses due to open here this day fortnight 18th May.

Members only for a period no Green Fees, no access to Locker Room, all rounds have to be prebooked, 2 or 3 balls only. 12 minute intervals before tee off. Cars in car park have to allow a clear space between them. Get ready in car, No approach to tee off area until 5 minutes before your allotted time,

All waste bins removed from Course, no sharing snacks ie a guy pulling 3 snack bars out of his bag & offering them to playing partners is a no no.

No touching pins on Greens, apparently they have changed the Cups some way that makes it easier to retrieve your ball without touching the pin,

All rakes removed from Bunkers, Bunkers now regarded as GUR, and there are more, it;s mind boggling.

  24. Some of the older folk will tell you that people that die of cancer go straight to heaven – they’ve already served their time in purgatory.

It is truly an awful disease and watching someone close to you slip further away every day in pain is unbearable.

Hamilton Tim, my condolences. Her suffering has ended now and her rewards are plenty. Stay strong.

    Helen RIP.

  25. Bada, your timeline of the banter years is terrific. All of those things actually happened. Weirder than any horror/science fiction writer could ever have imagined; especially from der hun perspective. It’s been belly laugh comedy all the way for us. Even with the open and covert backing of nearly all the top movers and shakers in the game including our board it seems, the leaders of our largest and historic rival cannot even cheat their way to victory. They are useless, bigoted idiots. Yeehaaa!

It’s worrying though that such goings on go on in a modern, wealthy, mature democracy. Power of the brotherhood. I think that they are slowly losing their grip. When the guns go under, that’ll be them finished. They’ll be derided and laughed at as the relics they are.
