Soon the world will know, you were not paranoid after all

Tonight Sevco accepted all outstanding penalties attributable to the SFA membership of soon-to-be-liquidated Rangers.  They also agreed that if Rangers are found to have cheated for over a decade by illegally registering players that they will be subject to whatever penalties Rangers would be due, in order to acquire Rangers SFA membership.

Only a week ago Ally McCoist insisted he would not be party to such a deal, it remains to be seen if that they were empty words.

The Scottish Premier League will now continue with its inquiry into the alleged dual-contracts Rangers operated during the Sir David Murray era.  I confidently predict the findings will reveal Rangers did not operate within the same rules as every other club, since at least the last century.  The former club will be stripped of all league titles and cups.  Celtic will be awarded league titles for 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011, creating a new Scottish record of 12 consecutive league championship wins.

Sevco will be liable for any punishment due for these years of operating with shadow contracts, the likely severity of which will reflect the enormity of the offence.

Should the First Tier Tribunal find that Rangers evaded paying up to £75m of social taxes, which is explicitly against Fifa and SFA rules, the SFA disciplinary tribunal will punish Sevco, the successor club now due to inherit Rangers SFA membership.

If you are on the receiving end of this, the future will appear daunting.  If you stood at Rugby Park, Fir Park, Celtic Park, St Mirren Park or Caledonian Stadium, when Celtic effectively or actually ‘lost’ league titles while observing the rules, the cumulative effects of punishments on a rival are meaningless, you will want trophies awarded to those who were prepared to endure defeat while observing the rules.

One day soon the world will know, you were not paranoid after all!

  1. Anthony and Kris both suffered badly twisted ankles. The manager saying Kris Commons is the major doubt.

Thomas Rogne and Scott Brown rested. James Forrest took a knock in training but should be ok for Wednesday.

    Simply not good enough

Sounds like a decent game today …Commons is a must ..hope he was taken off as a precaution

  3. Jackson Irvine is a midfielder, he’s Australian (Scottish dad), and was captain of the all-conquering under 19s last season.

GB could land a blow…breakaway group got too far ahead and no one would help GB to reel them in ..anti climax

  5. Satisfied with the performance today……

    Worried about the injuries…..

We NEED to take advantage of the next 2 or 3 years to do the following:

    1. Get into the Champions League. Each year.

    2. Blood some youngsters. No better time to do it, when we don’t have to mental about dropping a point at Inverness and the like.

Someone mentioned Bangura earlier. Got me thinking about these ‘mystery’ players. Not the ones that had potential but just didn’t raise their game with us. Nor those who WERE decent players, but just never lifted a leg (Graveson).

No, I am talking about those that just didn’t seem to be footballers at all. Those that weren’t on the fringe, but guys, after we had paid decent money for them, the manager wouldn’t let them near the first team. Ever.

Bangura seems to be in that category. Our old friend Raphael was one. Rasmusson. Juarez. I often wonder how we could possibly scout players, pay money for them and realize in the first day or few weeks….that the guy doesn’t belong in professional football.

Especially when we have the capacity to get it right. Victor, Kayal, Izzy. All guys from off the beaten track, but looked the business from day one.

    Just wondering……

  6. Just back from The Park and feeling a bit more confident for WEdnesday. Thought that Sami and Kris both put in a decent shift. Don’t think that Mo made the best use of his hour on the pitch.

Interesting point …( don’t agree with you re Graveson….think he got fed up after WGS..mugged him off )

Bangura looks as if he has never played football before …whereas Izzy,Kayal &Vic have been superb

  8. Was that ‘we signed the wrong Bangura’ thing ever put to bed or is the guy we did sign just a dud?

Thought we could have played our ‘a-team’ against Norwich, with any injuries given a week to recover, but heigh-ho, I also thought we should have signed a player.

  9. For anyone looking for a competitive game of sport to pass the time, tune to Olympics Channel 17. Czech Republic and Austria one set all, Czechs 7-4 up in the final set. It’s captivating.

  10. Afternoon bhoys, hot but still feeling the hun influence, the stench of hunnery travels far.

Thought we played some good stuff today.

Sammi was superb as was Kris, hope he recovers soon, Vic played the captains part well, Lustig looked like he is good as a CH, Izzy coming on to a game.

No Kayal today, after his tweet earlier that he was surpried he was left out, hope it’s no more than that.

Was surprised that Inter were at the same level as us, we done good against a team that cost the earth in comparison.

Much happier today with the team and the tactics than last week.

    As for PL’s Bangura…That’s why he ain’t a manager.

Gravesen – a total waste of space. One of the most undisciplined players I have ever watched in a Celtic shirt. The guy thought he knew better than the manager.

He expended most of his energy running 20-30 yards to give a tap of encouragement to a team-mate, while leaving a gap in midfield. That may be alright in meaningless friendlies but not against AC Milan.

WGS had the patience of a saint with that guy. I think he finally decided enough was enough when Gravesen starting his nonsense at Ibrox. He was hooked and soon on his way out the door.

  13. After last Saturday’s debacle, that was much more like it today, the score was irrelevant but a good performance v a good Serie A side, albeit one who were a week or 2 behind us in pre-season.

Also we were down to 9 effective players at the end, I agree that Bangura just doesn’t look like a footballer of any sort. Hope he proves me wrong but seen nothing in 11 months so far to make me think otherwise.

We should be ready for Wednesday, a huge game for us.

  14. Apologies if this has already been mentioned, and I know that Paul67 covered some of this months ago, but this is obviously only part of the story………

The SPL have the authority to conduct an investigation into these alleged transgressions, and if the Oldco is found guilty then they will, by order of their own rules, be required to take appropriate steps. The “correction” of results is only the first step. There will be a question as to whether there is clear provision in the rules to amend historical competition results, and thence the ‘stripping’ and ‘re-awarding’ of titles. Secondarily, as a result of revising the competition results in each of the affected seasons, there will be the question of recovering and re-appropriating prize money – my assumption is that such steps would result in establilshing a “football debt” due by Oldco, which I also believe Newco just accepted to honor as a term for the issuance of their SFA license. This in itself would still not address the issue or reparations, or settlement for damages that could be claimed by each and every club affected.

Finally, and by virtue of their findings, the SFL and SFA will also be forced to act, as the domestic cup competitions are managed by those bodies. This still makes no mention of UEFA’s possible position in regards to the same issue – clearly Fiorentina to name but one club affected, will have a direct interest in the outcome of this enquiry.

We are not done yet, not by a long way. Sevgers will be back in administration well before they sniff another day of action within the top flight of Scottish football!!!

    Hail, hail.

    THE EXILED TIM,

PLs Bangura? were you not saying that the other day that PL signed everyone but Hooper? I think PL is doing a great job then if thats the case. Theres Wanyama, Kayal, Izzy etc who are all sellable at vast profit. A big well done to PL. pat on the back.

  16. Much better today, some really positive performances from a number of our key personnel.

Bangura….not good enough but at least the boy puts in a shift. There’s a hunger and willingness to get into the box that’s not always evident in our other strikers.

1-1 with an Inter side who are well into their preparations and who had an extra man for about 20 minutes?

    That’ll do me.

  17. Watched the match on Inter TV over here.

The commentator was brilliant: knew a lot about us, pronounced most of the names correctly, called us ‘European giants(!!) and was generally very complimentary, and at the end of the match wished us a happy 125th birthday and all the very best for the season!

Enjoyed the game and was pleased that both teams took it seriously. Inter have an EL qualifier on Thursday against Hajduk Split. Our performance was a vast improvement and I felt that we had very few weaknesses.

Final observations: Mo Bangura?! Sammi looked up for it as did Vic and KC; defence looked mostly solid; need a goalscorer; is Emilio maybe carrying an extra pound or three(?); hope Mikey Lustig grows his hair again and shaves off his moustache; slightly concerned we might be short of numbers for Wednesday, but still relativeley confident!

Couldn’t see the game but sounds like we did well. Big worry is injuries, sounds like Commons definitely out and Stokes doubtful for next week.

Over the past couple of seasons we seemed to suffer more than the norm, and here we go again.

As i say i didn’t see the game so don’t know how the injuries came about, but we do seem to suffer more than most from players out injured.

  19. Re ‘Prohibited name’

An HMRC spokesman stated- “Liquidation will enable a sale of the football assets to be made to a new company, thereby ensuring that football will continue at Ibrox”

It should be noted that HMRC has not publicly given RFC approval to continue at Ibrox or anywhere else.

The law restricts the re-use of name previously used by the company that has gone into liquidation (section 216 of The Insolvency Act 1986). The name which can’t be used is known as the “prohibited name”. A prohibited name is a name by which the liquidated company was known at any time in the 12 months immediately before liquidation: whether this is its registered name or any name so similar to its registered or trading name as to suggest an association with the liquidated company.

“The whole point is not to allow the football club to do anything other than exist. It’s just to change the name over the door if you will.” – Paul Clark

Any creditor of RFC is entitled raise issue with the name ‘over the door’ at Ibrox, as taxpayers we are all entitled to raise our concern.

Sleekit Ally moans: “They want what we and our fans bring, yet seem determined to strip us of every bit of our dignity. It has to stop.” – Baw faced cheek.

I can’t stand what he and their fans bring to the game.

Any suggestions from CQNers as to forcing the issue with BDO or HRMC regards ‘prohibited name’ of oldco?

    Keep the faith

Sorry bout that, got stuck down the country, no internet access, had a disasterous time of things.

Hire car broke down, engine seized, there was no oil in it, they tried to say it was my fault,, didn’t have a number to call you, next time.

  22. A wee bit disappointed with that result. Thought we di more than enough to win against a not too competitive Inter team. They only got on level terms tanks to our being reduced to 10 without a sub.

Shame to see injuries occurring so close to the CL tie but we have cover.

If Commons & Stokes do not make it, I’d go:-

    Forster

Matthews Rogne (or Lustig) Mulgrew Izzy

    Forrest Wanyama Kayal Ledley Samaras

    Hooper

Subs: Zaluska, Rogne (or Lustig), McGeoch, Twardzik, Watt (or Bangura who badly needs a goal)

Wee James and Giorgios can support Gary Hooper to make this an attacking formation.

Really enjoyed that game at CP today. We mostly had a team of young players who were comfortable with the ball on either foot and they put some nice combinations together against a very experienced side.

Lustig looks like a CH, although I would still prefer to see an auld heid brought in to control the back line. KC was back in the groove and his goal was a peach. Izzy looks like he’s getting back to form and Joe & Vic did really well in the middle. Vic looks even more of a bear this season!

As HT just text me, Ledley was very effective today, but doesn’t seem quite the same when he’s partnered with Broony. Scott has to be played on the right, with Vic or Beram in the middle with Joe.

We need a better striking option than we’ve got at the moment, but where’s the money coming from? I would sell Stokes, as Watt will develop nicely this season, and AN Other to bring in the required funds. For me, the other would be Ki, but that’s been the subject of much debate.

Anyway, many positives to take away from that today and I’m looking forward to Wednesday night.

Agree with all you say about Gravesen – i watched him at Goodison for Everton and was ecstatic when we signed him.

Only thing i could say in his mitigation was that his life was apparently unravelling when he was with us, which ended up in some kind of a breakdown after he left us.

Agree with you mostly, there’s something not quite right with a few signings. Murphy and Bangura in particular. Neither have shown any glimpse of the ability that their transfer fees should have bought. Their goalscoring records before coming alone should have shown this.

Rasmussen is a goalscoring striker who I believe would get goals played week in week out but apart from that offers little – he’s pretty much what he says on the tin.

Juarez showed he had ability in the first few matches he played for the club, he looked like a genuine Petrov replacement in centre-mid but whatever he did in Mexico ruined his Celtic career. I think he comes under the mystery bracket.

Our defensive signings haven’t been great since O’Neill.

  28. Bangura needs a run in the side before being properly assessed; unfortunately, he’s not done very well with the few opportunities he has had. Our problem is that we don’t have the luxury to give him that run. We do need another striker, definitely.
