Souttar hands on intimate area

247

Can someone check on Robbie Neilson?  The Hearts manager has been posted missing since footage of John Souttar’s off the ball attack on Kyogo was publicised.  Neilson was highly animated at Celtic’s goal, the merits of which cannot be confirmed by video evidence.  There is no such dubiety over Souttar’s bodily interference with Kyogo.  With the ball out of play, the Hearts defender grabbed hold of Kyogo in the lower torso region, causing a visible abrasion.

Neilson, by any moral code, should refer his player to the video review panel, they both should apologise to the Celtic player. If John Souttar wants this kind of intimate relationship with a man he must go about it differently.  We live in rainbow times, but the 25-year-old needs to learn there are boundaries to respect.

In all the CQN years, I have discussed refereeing performances in less than a handful of cases.  Whenever I read people moaning about them, I think back to Jock Stein’s words to his players in that Celtic film from 1967, roughly abbreviated to ‘Deal with it’.

This is Scotland, referees are local, oversight is local, all the review and analytical process are local (as I am, BTW).  This is the place where the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service brought the might of the land against a football club’s administrators who were not prepared to do the bidding of hostile agents.  Save me your ‘Best wee country’ nonsense, with its implied superiority complex.

I was not surprised by a late penalty at Easter Road on Wednesday, it was not even noteworthy.  Compare and contrast to the hysterical analysis at Celtic Park from one character on Sky Sports on Thursday.  When the host calmly informing him that the TV analysis on the merits of Celtic’s goal was inconclusive, the facts could not penetrate, the matter was settled in his closed mind.

Based on stills when Anthony Ralston delivered his excellent cross, for my money, the goal was good.  But I’m biased, so don’t listen to me on the goal any more than Kris Boyd.  Celtic will win or lose the league with the referees we have, with pundits trying to convince whoever listens that inconclusive evidence is enough for them.  It will work, too, Celtic will face the consequences of Thursday’s decision.  This is Scotland, after all.

  1. Awe for goodness sake see what happens when I’m off the drink.

    Sorry Hot Smoked

    D :)

  2. St J game off at 2pm – I’m sure Ross county and fans would have been on their way – we need more plastic pitches 😨

in 19 domestic games this season Celtic have conceded only twice in the last third of the match and not since the end of August 16 games ago. You wonder whether other Scottish managers take note of this or continue with tactics from last year when parking the bus until 70 minutes often worked. if they are, it’s not working at the moment.

Paul was derided for writing about a turning point after we beat Aberdeen at PIttodrie but it does look like one now.

Nothing won yet, of course. But I do still think we’ll win the league

  4. We got a break with the goal against Hearts. Normally, these decisions go against us. Expect some evening out tomorrow when we play Dundee United.

  5. Eddie Howe facing relegation (although he’s not to blame); Jesse Marsch one game from the sack reportedly; Maresca sacked; Benitez hanging by a thread.

I’ve been a big critic of the board but credit where it’s due – would you swap any of those for Ange?

If, as is widely suggested, there’s a deep-seated institutional issue Celtic could waste a lot of time and energy on something when, in modern speak we’re extremely unlikely to move the dial to a material degree. Challenging it every time it appears would be a distraction and open up an argument that we would never win.

We took them on armed with indisputable proof in 2010 and we were punished by the refs until the end of the season when we lost the league by a point

Pick our battles Celtic40me.it would be an idea to maybe appoint a QC instead of Higgins.we have sorely missed Paul mcBride.

Compelled to come on and have his say about the Kyogo controversy. It’s offside.

  8. No Bobby Does It Petta on

The Scottish FA’s head of referee operations Crawford Allan has been on Sportsound discussing Celtic’s controversial winner against Hearts on Thursday.

“I’ll support my referees where I can,” said Allan. “I’ll come out and I’ll say if there’s an error.

“Kyogo – is he in front of the defender? Yes, probably he is. Do I think it’s offside? yeah, I probably do.”

  9. No Bobby Does It Petta on

Has Crawford called the state broadcaster any other time this season? Plenty of “controversial” referee decisions. Especially involving the Rangers.

  10. We got a goal because it was a goal, the huns got a goal against Motherwell at home that was offside they drew 1.1, no comments and no media outrage, we had a good goal disallowed at Tynecastle first game of the season , barely a mention of it, heavy treatment of our players in every game, yet we commit more fouls than the opposition, tough game tomorrow we need to take the chances we make more often.

He should be sacked for that comment on the BBC .

    ———

It’s difficult for the club to ever make a comment on refs unless they have 100% prrof of cheating, however they can make comment when the head of refs starts treating us differently to every other club in the league.

He’s blowing a dog whistle – no more marginal decisions in favour of the Tims.

I don’t think a QC would be best suited to Head of Security and I think we’ll struggle to find another Paul Mcbride – someone who’s prepared to receive bombs in the post and die penniless because of his dedication to just causes.

  14. Jesus, that’s shocking.

But, its all part of the argument about certain teams getting favourable decisions. We’d get more of the same if we seriously challenged the bias

Maybe that WAS the evening out . Remember Abada’s perfectly good goal ruled out at Tynecastle?

Know what you mean though .

I apologise for my comment at 12:29 today and for the offence caused, which certainly wasn’t my intention. Bad judgement on my part.

    Mia culpa.

  17. Not a chance celtic board will speak out against this outrageous interjection from the refs chief.

Alas, we will probably get the board we agitate for.

More Sharon Browns and Michael Macdonalds and fewer John Reids and Bernard Higgins.

The secret to an easy time, do nothing and say nothing.

  18. In the same game on Thursday night Starfelt was flagged for offside heading the ball down onto a Celtic player in the box,he wasn’t replays showed it, had it been stuck in the net it would have been would have been disallowed, would the head of refereeing be on the BBC saying anything about it. We know the answer the script is written by slobs like Boyd who cannot even sit in a seat properly, and the players who supposedly represent Celtic are weak, Berra said it was too close to call that is correct it was not a clear error how Allan can say anything different is plainly wrong, Berra also said Boyd wore Rangers sunglasses, correct

Maybe Crawford and his SFA buddies will get together and dock us two points for the goal they reckon shouldn’t have been given?

Which in turn might lead to a statement from the board expressing their surprise and disappointment .

The game in Scotland has been on the way to ‘Hell in a handcart’ since it’s inception but now I think it’s finally reached it’s destination .

Fair enough. Hope you enjoy your trip to Tannadice tomorrow :-)

  21. We played Aberdeen away. Madden did everything he could to help. 27 free kicks when we had 61 % of the ball. Aberdeen play sevco at Ibrox and are leading 2-0. Beatton awards them what can only be described as a soft free kick and a soft penalty from which they score 2 goals. Things have been evened up.

We play Aberdeen at parkhead and they get a soft penalty. Sevco will visit Aberdeen soon and no doubt will get the decisions in their favour.

This is how things get evened out in Scottish football.

Aberdeen are 2 up and 2 down.

Sevco are 2 up and we are 2 down.

  22. onenightinlisbon on

Our board will continue to allow us to sit at the back of the bus. They are as much part of the problem as the masonic system that is Scottish football. Each and every one of them that sit on the board are out for themselves and could not give a flying **** about the state of the game re the refs.

  23. prestonpans bhoys on

Did the BBC actually invite Crawford to comment or did he approach them. If it’s the latter then that’s outrageous and should be questioned by any board doing their job properly.
