SPFL will move with the herd, isolating angry losers

746

We received clarity from Uefa on some important issues yesterday and not on others.  Access to the Champions and Europa Leagues next season will be granted only on sporting merit.  This finally nailed hopes of the Null and Void Loyal.  If a league was declared void, its standings and results would not hold, so no sporting merit could be determined.

If Newco want access to the Europa League qualifiers, they need the SPFL to award a winner and second place, despite their protests.  Our old pal Cognitive Dissonance must keep them awake at night.

It is clear from the Uefa statement they have listened and tried to accommodate several scenarios.  Where titles are close, like Italy, where Lazio narrowed the gap on Juventus to a point, Uefa suggest a play-off system could allow chasing teams to make up the difference.  AZ Alkmaar trail Ajax on goal difference but the Dutch league is expected to call a halt to the campaign as early as today.  There are no truly satisfactory closures this season, least of all for Celtic, who will be denied a title winning game.

What we didn’t get was a hard deadline on when teams have to be nominated for European competitions.  After discussions with Uefa, the Italian league extended this season’s Serie A to 2 August, so we know for sure the European draws cannot take place until after that date.

I expect we will see European leagues synchronise their moves; there will be no incentive for any radical undertakings.  Those without rabid losers will be first to call time, the SPFL will move with the herd, as it should.  Then those who called for independent investigations into why the SPFL acted the same way as the rest of Europe will look like the angry losers they are.

I enjoyed your post – and for some reason (probably because it was so well written) your one use of a sweary word totally cracked me up :-)

  3. ParkheadcumSalford, good to see you posting again, At the time we were there, there still was some security on the locals. Stay safe and look forward to a wonderful summer and the start of some nice celebrations. KTF Cathach

    Apologies for the late reply.

I have absolutely no issue with healthy debate, indeed I advocate it, as long as it’s conducted within the few rules of the blog.

Paul 67 deserves no less, for the time and effort he puts in to give us this great forum.

The rules are there for all without fear of favour, and the term unfashionable refers to a poster who does not have fellow posters jumping to his defence because they have previously socialised.

There is basically no football to discuss and so the blog diversifies into topics outwith our common denominator; ie Celtic.

The diversity of this blog is its strength.

I feel we had better leave further comment on this subject as Mr, Ms or Mrs Moderator 2 has intervened.

Thank you for your reply, Cheers and HH.

    Stay safe everyone 🌈🌈🌈

    Greenpinata,

Just out of interest what time and effort beyond the paltry articles do you think P67 expends on the blog. I suggest many bloggers spend more time and effort trying to get past the adverts that are a demonstration of P67s attitude to bloggers, money pigs to be exploited and abused.

  7. Canamalar,

To write a blog daily and maintain functionality requires time and effort.

Yes, navigating the ads can be problematic at times.

Will they get a license to play in Europe, even if they don’t?

Will they survive till next season?

  11. Macjay: This was your quote:

Why don`t you remind us about De Valera`s shameful ” neutrality “.

Painful truth , but truth nevertheless.

De Valera’s action was that he expressed condolences to the German ambassador on the death of Hitler. He did so against the wishes of his advisers. He did so, because he believed, as a neutral nation, it was the diplomatically correct thing to do.

He wasn’t aligning Ireland with the Nazis.

Should he have done it in the first place? Definitely not, imho. But he, nor the Irish state at that time, did not align with Hitlers facist views.

You may disagree with Ireland’s neutral stance but don’t misrepresent what really happened.

  12. I hope you are all coping well with the new normal.

    I truly do miss Celtic.

This carry on behind the scenes is getting old. Celtic will do well to keep their nose out of it. All we can do is what Scott Brown has done, remind everyone that the rest of the season was a procession. We want to complete the season when possible.

  13. Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, and the Blog & the Club is open to all as long as they respect the rules.

However if someone is constantly posting in a manner which is either general blatant trolling or simply to wind up specific Posters I believe that is an abuse of the Blog every bit as bad as calling someone a p^^^^ or telling them to eff off,.

Obviously scrolling on by is an option or just leaving the Blog when a Poster whom you deem is simply goading a particular diaspora comes on and believe me, that is what I do.

I also know quite a few who just packed in the Blog because of a certain Poster.

No doubt he will wear that info as a badge of honour and if so, so be it.

Of course by saying this I am no doubt a member of this mysterious clique .

A lot of people liken this place to a virtual cyber pub, reality is if you were constantly goading someone in a pub you would be told to eff off or maybe worse.

Anyhow I’m back to scrolling by or signing off as the situation merits.

  14. How many new cars are being sold these days?

How many used cars for that matter?

How high are car inventories and how much are they costing dealers?

How profitable is the servicing and repair side since we are driving less, much less?

Financing is usually a more profitable side of the business, but how many people are taking out loans for new or used cars?

Car dealerships must be in meltdown these days. They still have to pay leasing costs on premises.

They still have to pay to carry their new model stock. They still have to pay for the carrying costs of their used cars. They can’t offload their slow moving stock at auctions. Who is attending auctions?

    Mr Park must be bleeding.

No chance of him being able to bail out the second version of the team from Govan.

It is probably a millstone round his and his business’ neck at the moment.

Spot on (and I am no Dev fan) Dev’s “neutrality” allowed members of captured Allied Forces (mostly from crashed airplanes) to be repatriated across the border. German prisoners were held until wars end. The weather forecast that allowed the Allies to commit to D Day was secretly passed on to Allied HQ through an agreed route from County Mayo.

This has also to be understood in the time frame where we in were recovering from a devastating Economic War placed on us by a vengeful Britain for daring to unilaterally change the terms of the 1922 Treaty. Also, a time where the Irish population were still reeling from the State Terrorism of the British Forces who murdered and burnt their way across our country in the 1919-1921 Tan war. The 1845 to 1852 genocide of large sections of the peasant population by starvation was a living memory to the Irish population in 1940. Their Grandparents and in some cases, parents, were born in that terrible time.

It’s worth mentioning that both the UK and the US expressed condolences on the death of Stalin.

Maybe not directly analogous as if it hadn’t been for Uncle Joe, and the people of the USSR, the war against Hitler would have been lost, so some recognition of his passing was in order.

But it does show that observing diplomatic protocols doesn’t imply political support.

Some were, but some were interned, and treated very well (free Guinness, seriously, free Guinness).

One such absconded and returned to the UK and was promptly sent back to Ireland by the British authorities, because it was a breach of the rules for interned prisoners in neutral countries to try to escape. Bigger picture and all that.

  21. One other point about Irish neutrality. When Belfast was bombed by the Luftwaffe Dev sent fire crews from the Republic to help ( ‘aren’t they all our people anyway?’).

Two weeks later the Luftwaffe bombed Dublin killing 34 people. They claimed it was an error.

    Thanks for your courtesy .

You deserve a courteous response and perhaps an explanation.

You defend your country . An admirable and understandable standpoint.

My country is Scotland and I reserve the right to defend my country.

On CQN you can insult Scotland and / or UK with virtual impunity but you`d better not say a bad word about Ireland .

Classic example , the regular reference to ” Scotland , the best wee BIGOTED country in the world “. Nobody turns a hair.

Try saying something similar about Ireland. The sky falls in .

    Fair go , mate.

Any chance of ” Do unto others ? ”

Celtic are a Scottish team who play in Scotland , but you`d be hard pressed to know that if you read CQN .

    OK.

    The issue in point.

In response to the comments of others , I used the word ” shameful ” to describe Ireland`s neutrality in W.W.11.

In the face of the fascist tyrant , Ireland was neutral .

As were Spain`s fascist Franco , fascist Salazar`s Portugal and Nazi sympathisers , Switzerland . Uncomfortable bed fellows . No ?

I find that to be shameful. You may not .

Re.De Valera`s condolences to the German legation. after the death of Hitler . The Irish Independent described this as a ” ghastly error “. I agree. Do you ?

Sadly there are many more episodes in Irish history both pre and post WW11 which do not bear scrutiny. Particularly sanctuary given to European Nazis

Now . We both know all about British crimes against Ireland . I recognise those as shameful .

    Because they were.

God willing both our nations can recognise the errors of the past , learn from them and move on .

  28. We are proud of the fact that we have Scottish origins and Irish heritage and we are never going to deny that. We will defend that and that is not a cause for shame, it’s a cause for recognition and celebration.

Indeed our very name ‘Celtic’ is about the unity of the Scottish and Irish people. It stands against those who would divide, discriminate and oppose those two entities. And because we start from that basis of the unity of peoples then we have always been open and inclusive as a club.

That’s why traditionally we have never discriminated. That’s why our board, our shareholders, our footballers and our footballing heroes come from all sorts of different backgrounds, religions, ethnic groups and do so internationally.

That’s why I said last year that whatever differences we have when we come into this club we leave them at the door because we believe truly, in a Scotland that is one bit of many cultures and is way beyond now being Scots and Irish.
