SPL makes more concessions to Sevco

291

Channel 4’s Alex Thomson’s source at the SPL yesterday confirmed that the league will not proceed with their hearing into Rangers illegal registration of players until Sevco agrees to be bound by its findings.  This is curious as Item 12 (Sanctions) from the SFA’s ‘List of items required to accompany application for transfer of full membership’ from Rangers to Sevco, an application which Sevco have already made, obliged Sevco to agreed to be bound by these findings.

The relevant part of the transfer application reads:

“Confirmation that Sevco will accept such sanctions as are proposed by the Scottish FA in relation to current proceedings.

Confirmation re EBT sanction position at SPL level and subsequent appeal to Scottish FA.

Confirmation that Sevco will accept responsibility for any breach of the Articles etc by Oldco which has not so far come to light.”

If Sevco have not accepted the terms of the SFA membership application there seems little point putting Scottish Football League clubs through such dramas this week. An alternative explanation is that Sevco have completed their application in full but the SPL have no plausible excuse for delaying tier investigation into illegal registration of players, so have used an implausible excuse.

Neither explanation is tenable. Things are not going to plan for the national bodies.

Sick of their cheating ways now. I wonder what the formation will be tonight?

  2. Why would the SPL place sanctions on Sevco? They are not a member of the league. The investigation should focus on the historical misdeeds of RFC regarding EBTs etc and look at removal of titles and so on. Everything else should be handed over to the SFA.

Sevco are not in the SPL – When will they realise?

I don’t think there is any suggestion that the registrations have been transferred to Sevco. For this to take place, excuse the FIFA statutes:

Players may only be registered – subject to the exception provided for

in article 6 paragraph 1 – upon submission of a valid application from

the club to the relevant association during a registration period.

Clearly this hasn’t happened. Sevco are claiming (in this instance) that they are the same club as Rangers FC (in Administration) and as such the players are currently registered to them. Obviously this claim is at odds with reality given that Sevco are telling HMRC, Ticketus and all the other creditors that they aren’t the same club as Rangers, and the SPL as a body have also reached the same conclusion in refusing them membership.

Ah well. Never fear, they welcome the chase.

  4. This sustained period of uncertainty is damaging Scottish football. A large proportion of the blame, lies with Regan and Doncaster.

I just want to check my understanding of the state of play. The SFL proposal to crowbar Rangers into the First Division, without a vote for the “good of Scottish football”, does this proposal need to be voted in by the SFL clubs? So they will essentially be having a vote not to have vote???!!!

  5. The more I read and the longer this goes on Doncaster and regan remind me of one o my weans trying to find any excuse to prolong their trek tae bed when they wur wee

But their excuses of ” Ahm still finishing my buscuit”

    “10 minutes more please da”

and ” can ah see the end of my telly program”

carry more intellectual weight than any of doncasters or reagans diatribe

I wish UEFA/FIFA or anyone who can would just deliver the final blow to the ex Govan football team and let the rest of the tax paying citizens get on with looking forward to watching fair and competitive fitba for the first time in generations

    Hail Hail

  6. A wee bit more on Paul Telfer. His biggest problem for me, was that his passes put the receiver under a lot of pressure. Repeatedly he gave the ball to the wrong guy, or made a bad pass, so the receiving player ended up losing the ball. This happened a lot.

However – he was exceptionally fit – even as the oldest player, WGS said he was one of the fittest guys in the squad. This had an effect on the squad, as Strachan’s reputation for very tough training (particuarly pre-season) took a bit of getting used to apparently. with a guy like Telfer involved, he led by example in terms of training/fitness etc. This IMO helped to pull up standards of fitness and athleticism across the whole group. I feel a guy like that adds a lot of value to the squad overall.

  7. I read Pro/Rel 9.2 as being with regards to prohibition of promotion on sporting merit, i.e. you might finish top of Div 1, but if you’re club is a complete basket case with regards the licensing then if you are Sevco we’ll give you a collect £200 and free pass promotion may be withheld.

Falkirk failed the SPL’s licensing criteria and were denied promotion a number of years back. If it was simply the case that ‘promotion on sporting merit’ can be set aside in the manner that STVGrant implies, then I look forward to any number of clubs applying for SPL membership sometime soon, like Queens Park, who play in an Elite Class Stadium and must be financially sound, have any number of years accounts etc.

In fact, I’d say that Sevco absolutely fails 9.2 on account of well, no accounts.

  9. Just reading that the pre-season friendly between Dundee & Dundee Utd is expecting a crowd of 8500. I would love the fans of the other SPL clubs to show up in force this season and blow the doom & gloom predictions right out the water.

It would also be great to show the bares they are not needed or wanted.

  15. Also, note that the statute states:

In addition…they may be subject to, as in, a club needs to pass both clauses

    as opposed to stating:

Alternatively…, as in, a club needs to pass one clause or the other

enmac – the SFA are under the illusion Green is serious about running New Huns for several years as a serious owner of a football club. The SFA see a financial opportunity in that they will accept a bribe in the form of ‘sanctions’ to get New Huns in a higher Division.

IMO Green will use the sanctions or entering as Div3 as a reason not to field a football team season 12-13.

O.K., I’ll admit to being a Strachan begrudger [never hater] and PT to me seemed to some up the difference between WGS and MON; the blessed Martin probably wasn’t so bothered about what you did in training, as long as you performed on Saturday.

When they were both at Southampton the perception was that WGS gave PT a game because ‘ he was good at running about in training’.

WGS to his credit was not given the funds to spend on players that his predecessor was, and he did choose to spend some of that money on a runner, rather than a footballer.

  26. I’m tired of Sevco Scotland, The SFA, The SFL The SPL, Celtic play their first game of season 2012/13 tonight, and against decent opposition in a Bundesliga side. Pre seasons are not important per se but with the Champions League being our insurance policy against the possible financial mess in our domestic game we must be at full speed by the end of July what may have been meaningless in previous years has a new importance this season

If the players are in good nick especially Kris C then we will have a real cutting edge that just might see us succeed through the CL qualifiers
